Chapter 625
Chapter 625
Elisa's face showed she meant business. She wasn't one to let things slide, especially if someone had offended her.
Sensing her seriousness, Howard jumped in, "I've unfriended Calista and will return those earrings."
His attempt to please her seemed to backfire. Elisa's opinion of Calista took a nosedive. She had thought Calista's actions were intentional, while Howard believed he had made his stance clear.
"No need, I actually like them. Besides, we were just talking about earrings, so sending them back now would make me look petty," Elisa waved dismissively.
Since Howard had bought them, she decided to wear them more to remind Calista of Howard's thoughtfulness and to annoy her.
"I'll go along with that," Howard agreed, no arguments.
While chatting, Elisa realized she hadn't seen Flora since earlier, not even during the police arrest. She quickly dialed a number.
After a few rings, Arthur picked up.
"Hey, Elisa, what's going on?"
Elisa exploded, "Are you with Flora? Where is she? Why isn't she answering her phone?"
Fearful of Elisa jumping to conclusions, Arthur rushed to explain, "She's in the shower. I've called a doctor, we're waiting for them."
"A doctor? Did Flora take something by mistake?" Elisa unreasonably felt anger rising. Briar had been so cruel. She regretted not following the guy's advice for payback.
"Arthur! Get here now!" Flora's voice boomed in the background.
"On my way," Arthur replied, flustered.
Elisa, being tactful, decided not to pry further. She warned Arthur before hanging up, "If you try anything sneaky, you're in big trouble!"
Arthur didn't argue and simply hung up.
The longer Elisa dwelled on it, the more her anger simmered. It had been an hour since the police took Briar. There should be some updates by now.
She dialed Alfred's number.
It felt a bit shady to push Alfred like this, but Elisa couldn't worry about that.
"Elisa, what's up?" Alfred answered promptly, his tone remaining steady.
Elisa hesitated, "What did the police find out?"
Alfred glanced at Briar in the passenger seat and responded gravely, "Not enough evidence, they let her go. But don't fret, I'll handle it."
The result was pretty much as she had expected.
Elisa couldn't say she was surprised, but she wasn't thrilled either.
Noticing her mood shift, Alfred reassured her, "I've got this."
Howard, eager to wrap up the call, gave Elisa a look to hurry things along.
Not wanting to make things harder for Alfred, Elisa added, "If Briar was just after me, I wouldn't be this upset. But since she's targeting my friends too, I can't stand for it."
"Alfred, you know when I make up my mind, I stick to it."
"I understand."
After ending the call, Alfred stared at his phone, feeling annoyed.
Briar, seated beside him, overheard everything and fumed, "Who does Elisa think she is, talking to you like that? She has no respect for the Davis Family?"
Alfred reprimanded, "Quiet!"
She fell silent.
After pondering, she couldn't help but feel bitter, "It was no big deal, and she still called the cops. Disgusting."
Noticing Briar's lack of remorse, Alfred pulled over, turned to her, and said sternly, "Briar, I'm giving you a serious warning. Stay away from Elisa, or there will be consequences."
Briar was taken aback by Alfred's rare defense of someone and was visibly displeased. Mumbling, "Why are you sticking up for her? Who is she to you? Don't you have a girlfriend?"
She paused.
Elisa did seem oddly familiar to Briar, emitting an energy she didn't appreciate.
"Elisa is your girlfriend, isn't she?" Briar seemed to have made a significant discovery, "You're into Howard's ex-wife? If Aunt Veda finds out, it would be a scandal."
Feeling like she had leverage over Alfred, Briar proposed, "Alfred, how about we make a deal, cover for each other? I won't spill your secret, and you let me off the hook, and maybe in the future..."
"Who said I'd play along with you?" Alfred cut her off bluntly, "I suggest you drop any schemes, or I won't hesitate to reveal the truth about Steven's death."
Briar paled instantly, her voice sharp, "You're bluffing!"
But her eyes betrayed her fear.
Alfred resumed driving, his face impassive.
Silence filled the car.
In Flora's suite, also affected by spiked wine, Flora was as agitated as a bull. Even after a cold shower, she couldn't calm down, constantly clinging to Arthur.
Arthur didn't want their intimate night to unfold under such circumstances. He struggled to support Flora's head with one hand and swiftly called for a doctor with the other.
Thankfully, after receiving an injection, Flora settled down.
The doctor adjusted his glasses and reminded Arthur, "Your attire."
Arthur glanced down and noticed his shirt was shredded to pieces.
"Thanks for coming by," Arthur adjusted his torn clothes, deemed them beyond repair, threw on a coat, and escorted the doctor to the door.
The doctor, seeing the closed door, was puzzled. It was odd; both couples seemed respectable, yet they were both so unruly?
Inside the room, Arthur flopped onto the bed. Finally, a moment of rest.
He turned to gaze at Flora's serene sleeping face, reached out to pinch her cheek, "You're all cozy, but you've drained me."
In her slumber, Flora grasped his hand and nuzzled against it, grinning blissfully, looking foolish yet endearing.
Arthur glanced at his pants, raised by his arousal, sighed resignedly, and headed to the bathroom.
The next morning, the gentle sunlight roused Flora. She stretched leisurely, feeling like she had a particularly good sleep, though a bit achy all over.
She turned and found Arthur's face inches away, startling her, prompting her to slap him.
Arthur, sporting dark circles under his eyes, shielded his face, feeling both drowsy and stung, "What's the deal?"
Flora glanced down at her attire, realizing she was only in her underwear. She slapped him again, yelling, "Creep!"
These two slaps finally brought Arthur fully awake.
He sat up groggily, the sheet slipping down, revealing his toned chest.
Trembling, Flora demanded, "What did you do?"
Before she could land a third slap, Arthur swiftly caught her wrist, "Hold on, think about last night."
Flora shot back, "What else could have happened? It's all your fault, jerk!"
Gradually, some fragmented memories began to resurface in her mind.
