Chapter 77 Chapter 77
CHAPTER SEVENTY-SEVEN
Irina's POV
“Take her.” Katya ordered and immediately, the guards seized me roughly, grabbing my arms with so much fierce. Their nails dug into my skin, bruising it.
Katya followed behind. I could imagine her smiling, thinking she had won.
I never knew she was betrothed to Alexei since a very young age. Who would have thought. And now Alexei doesn't seem to want her.
They dragged me through dark corridors.
My feet scraped against the cold concrete floor.
I tried to resist but their grip was too strong.
"Where are you taking me?" I asked. And even though I tried to act strong, my voice was shaking badly.
No one answered. They just kept dragging me forward.
The hallways were dimly lit. Bare bulbs hung from the ceiling.
The walls were gray concrete. Cold and damp.
We went through several doors. Each one heavier than the last.
We went down more hallways and deeper into the building.
And I knew deep down that wherever they were taking me, it won't be pleasant.
As we walked, I could hear sounds. Distant screams from somewhere below or above, I couldn't tell. I could hear the sound of metals clanging. It felt like something in a horror movie.
The farther we went, the darker it became. Lights became dimmer.
Where were they taking me? What kind of place was this?
I could feel the the hairs on my body stand. And that was a sign of danger.
Finally, after walking fur what felt like hours, they stopped in front of a metal door.
It looked different from the others. It was thicker and more secure.
One guard unlocked it and the door creaked open.
They pushed me inside with a shove and I stumbled, almost falling to the to the ground.
The room was cold and clinical. It smelled like disinfectant. Strong chemicals burned my nose. In the center was a bed. It wasn't a normal bed, it was a medical bed with straps and restraints on the sides.
My blood ran cold as realization dawned on me. I knew what this room was for.
"No," I whispered, my eyes went to Katya. But she just smiled. "No, please."
“You brought this upon yourself.” Katya grinned.
Men in white coats were already in the room. There where three of them. And from the look of it,they were doctors.
But they did not look kind like other doctors. They looked cold and emotionless. Like they had done terrible things many times before.
"Put her on the bed," one doctor ordered. His voice was cold, flat and uncaring.
The guards grabbed me again. I fought back this time.
"No! Let me go!" I screamed. "Please!"
I kicked and struggled. I tried to break free. But it was useless. They were too strong.
They lifted me onto the bed. I struggled violently.
My body thrashed. My arms pulled against their grip.
"Stop moving," a guard ordered coldly.
"No!" I cried. "Please do not do this!"
They started strapping me down. Try started with my wrist.
I pulled against the restraints. But they were too tight.
The leather cut into my skin. It hurt badly.
Then they strapped down my ankles. I could not move my legs.
I tried to kick but the straps held firmly.
Finally, they put a strap across my chest. Pinning me down completely.
I was trapped. Unable to move. Unable to escape.
"Please," I begged. Tears streamed down my face. "Please do not hurt my baby."
The doctors ignored me. They moved around preparing equipment.
I heard the sound of metal instruments clinking together.
What were they going to do? What was the procedure?
Then I heard the sound of heels clicking. It was slow and deliberate. And it was getting closer.
Katya stood beside the bed, looking down at me with a smile so cruel.
"Everything ready?" she asked the doctors.
"Yes, Miss Orlov," one doctor replied.
Her expression was satisfied. She looked pleased with herself. Please with wanting to kill an innocent child
"This will not take long," she said sweetly, staring down at me with disgust.
"Why are you doing this?" I sobbed. "What did I ever do to you?"
"You exist," Katya said simply. "And that is enough reason to want to destroy you."
She reached down and placed her hand on my stomach.
I tried to pull away but the restraints held me.
Her touch made my skin crawl. It made me feel sick.
"That thing inside you," Katya said. "It is Alexei's child." Her face twisted in anger.
"Alexei was meant for me," she continued. "Not you. We were promised to each other as children," she added. "So I am taking everything from you," she said. "Starting with this baby."
"No!" I screamed. "Please! Take me but leave my baby!"
"The baby is the problem," Katya said coldly.
"As long as it exists, Alexei will never be fully mine," she explained. "So it has to go," she added casually. "It's as simple as that."
"No!" I cried. "No, please! Someone help me!"
But no one was coming. No one would save me.
Dimitri did not know where I was. He could not find me.
One doctor approached with a syringe. The needle was large.
"This will make you sleepy," he said emotionlessly.
"No!" I tried to move my arm but I could not.
The restraints held me perfectly still.
He grabbed my arm and wiped it with alcohol.
The cold liquid made me shiver.
He pushed the needle into my vein. I felt the sting.
The pain was sharp as it broke through my skin.
"Please," I whispered. "Please do not do this."
The drug started working immediately. My vision blurred. The room started spinning around me.
"No," I said weakly. "My baby. Please. Somebody help. My baby."
My eyes felt heavy. So heavy I could not keep them open.
The room started spinning. Voices became distant.
"She is going under," I heard someone say.
Their voice sounded far away like an echo.
"Good," Katya's voice replied. "Start the procedure."
"No," I tried to say. But my mouth would not work.
My tongue felt thick and heavy.
Darkness was pulling me down. It was swal
lowing me.
I tried to fight it. I tried to stay awake. But I could not. The drug was too strong.
My last thought was of Dimitri. My husband.
I picture his silver hair. His ocean blue eyes.
The way he held me and said he would protect me.
"Please find me," I thought. "Please save our baby."
I wanted to tell him I loved him. I wanted to say goodbye. But I could not. The darkness took me.
Then everything went black.
