Chapter 38 Chapter 38

Chapter 38 Chapter 38
CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT

Dimitri's POV

When I got back to the farm, the sun was just beginning to rise.

I opened the door quietly, hoping not to wake anyone.

But Maria and Luna were already awake, sitting in the living room with worried faces.

"Where have you been?!" Luna jumped up immediately, her eyes were red like she had been crying. "We have been looking everywhere for you!"

"I am sorry," I said quickly. "I did not mean to worry you, I just needed to..."

"You could have died out there!" Maria said, standing up too. "Your head injury is still serious, what if you collapsed? What if something happened?"

"I am fine," I said. "Really, I am okay."

But Luna was already checking me, touching my face, looking at my bandages. "You are not fine, you look exhausted."

"I need to leave," I said suddenly.

Both of them froze.

"What?" Luna whispered.

"I need to leave," I repeated and walked to the small room they had given me and started gathering my few clothes. Maria and Luna followed me to the room. "I found someone tonight, someone who knows who I am."

"Who?" Maria asked. "Who did you find?"

"A woman," I said, folding my clothes carefully. "She called me Dimitri, she knew my name."

"Dimitri," Luna repeated softly. "That is your name?"

"Yes," I said. Relief filled me again by just saying it. "My name is Dimitri."

"But you cannot leave," Luna said desperately, grabbing my arm. "You are not healed yet, you need more time."

"I do not have more time," I said gently, pulling my arm away. "I need to find that woman again, I need to learn who I am."

"At least wait a few more days," Luna pleaded. "Let your wound heal more."

"I cannot," I said and looked at the both of them. "You have been so kind to me, you saved my life and I will never forget that, but I have to go, I have to find answers."

Luna's eyes were filled with tears but she nodded slowly. "We understand."

"Do you have money?" Maria asked. "You will need money."

I shook my head realizing I don't have any money and I would be needing some . "No, I have nothing."

Maria left the room quickly and came back with a small cloth bag. "Here," she said, pressing it into my hands. "It is all we have."

I opened it and saw bills inside. It wasn't much but it was something.

"I cannot take this," I said. "You need this money."

"We want you to have it," Maria said firmly. "Please, take it."

"I will pay you back," I said firmly wity determination. "Once I find out who I am, once I get my life back, I will pay you back everything and more."

Luna suddenly grabbed the medical supplies. "At least let me change your bandages before you go," she said, and her voice broke "And you need to take your medications."

I had no choice but to sit down and let her work because she won't let me go if I refuse. Her hands were gentle as she unwrapped the old bandages. The wound was healing but it was still tender.

"It looks better," she said quietly. "But you still need to be careful."

She cleaned the wound and wrapped fresh bandages around my head. Then she gave me a small bottle of pills.

"Take these twice a day," she instructed. "Morning and night, they will help with the pain and prevent infection."

"Thank you," I said. "Thank you both for everything."

Luna's tears finally fell. "Please be safe."

"I will," I promised.

I left as dawn was breaking, the sky was pink and orange, birds were starting to sing.

I did not know where to go but I walked back towards the location where I met Irina, maybe I would find more clues there, maybe I would find her again.

As I walked, I thought about everything.

Someone had tried to kill me.

The way Irina looked so scared, the way she warned me to run, someone had definitely orchestrated my accident.

But Maria and Luna must have found me before that person could finish the job, and saved my life without even knowing it.

After walking for hours, I reached the area again, the warehouses stood tall in the morning light, cars were driving past now, people were walking on the streets.

And I looked completely out of place.

Everyone here was dressed in expensive clothes, designer brands, polished shoes, and they walked with confidence and purpose.

But I was wearing old rags and shoes that has holes.

People stared at me like I was a beggar, some moved away when I got too close, others looked at me with disgust.

I need to blend in.

I looked around and saw a clothing store across the street and walked towards it, the windows displayed expensive suits and dresses.

When I entered, a security guard immediately moved towards me. "Hey, you cannot be in here," he said firmly.

"Please," I said quickly. "I am not crazy, I am not drunk, I just need to buy clothes."

The manager came over immediately, looking at me with suspicion. "Do you have money?"

I pulled out the cloth bag Maria gave me. "Yes, I have money, I need the cheapest clothes and shoes you have."

The manager hesitated then nodded. "Follow me."

He led me to the back of the store where they kept simpler and cheaper items, the prices were still high but I found a plain shirt, simple pants and basic shoes that would fit my budget.

"This cost all my money," I said, counting the bills. "But I will take them."

The manager counted it and nodded. "That will work."

I changed in the fitting room, the clothes were simple but clean and new, I looked almost normal now.

I was walking towards the exit when suddenly the front door burst open. Three men rushed in wearing masks and carrying guns.

"Everybody down!" One of them shouted, firing his gun into the air. The sound was deafening.

People screamed and dropped to the floor, the manager ducked behind the counter.

"Nobody move!" Another robber yelled. "We just want the money!"

But something strange happened.

Without thinking, without planning, my body moved on its own.

I rushed at the nearest robber with speed I did not know I had, before he could react, I grabbed his gun and twisted his wrist hard.

He screamed and dropped the weapon.

The second robber turned towards me but I was already moving, I kicked his legs out from under him and he crashed to the floor.

The third robber aimed his gun at me but I ducked and swept his legs, he fell backwards and his gun skidded across the floor.

Within seconds, all three robbers were on the ground, disarmed and groaning in pain.

Everyone in the store stared at me in shock.

"How did you do that?" The manager whispered.

I stared at my own hands that were already shaking. "I… I do not know." I whispered.

Police sirens wailed outside, the manager must have pressed a silent alarm.

But the sound of sirens triggered something in my head like a warning. I panicked immediately.

My whole body tensed. I had to leave, I had to get away from the police.

But why? Why did the sound of sirens make me so afraid?

The crowd was starting to gather, people were cheering and trying to talk to me.

"You are a hero!"

"That was amazing!"

"How did you learn to fight like that?"

But I could not stay, the warning in my head was too strong.

I pushed through the crowd and slipped out the back door before the police arrived, I vanished into the alley and kept running until I could no longer hear the sirens.
