In the end, Sophia chose to apologize because she couldn't afford the five million dollar breach of contract fee. She couldn't gracefully walk away.
Jessica was overjoyed because of that. She wanted to hold Victor's hand, but he subtly avoided it. She wasn't angry and happily followed him into the CEO's office.
After the door closed, the talent in the Secretary Department discreetly raised their heads. They looked at Sophia thoughtfully. Megan had specifically reminded Sophia to stay away from Jessica in the future.
Sophia nodded in agreement but didn't say anything. However, she couldn't help but curse in her heart, 'What a shameless duo!'
She sullenly organized the documents. What was excessive was that Victor had assigned her the workload of three people, which resulted in all the other people in the Secretary Department leaving, while she had to work overtime.
Her phone kept ringing nonstop. It was all calls from Zach. Sophia didn't want to answer, so she simply blocked his number. Her phone was about to die. As she searched for her charger to charge it, a call from Liam came through.
"Mommy, are you still working late tonight?" His soft voice was filled with confusion.
Sophia just remembered that she had promised to pick up Liam. She apologized with guilt, "I'm sorry, sweetheart. I probably can't leave now."
"Mommy, what time will you finish work?" The little guy asked curiously.
Sophia glanced at the unfinished documents on the table. "Around eight in the evening. I'll come find you then. Be good and wait quietly, okay?"
"I understand. I love you, mommy." Liam was very obedient, and his voice was sweet.
Sophia, who had been suppressing her emotions all day, was deeply touched. Suddenly, she felt that all her grievances were nothing in front of Liam. As long as he was still there, she would still be the happiest person.
Sophia smiled sweetly, "I love you too."
She hung up the phone and turned around to find Victor standing behind her. She was startled, "When did you come?"
Victor's emotionless face showed no trace of feelings. He said, "Come with me."
"Me?" Sophia couldn't help but glance at Jessica behind him. "What about her?"
"That's not your concern." Victor reminded her to take the documents and turned to leave to get the car keys.
Sophia had no choice but to keep up with him quickly. As she passed by Jessica, Jessica suddenly lowered her voice and said, "You better not have any ideas about my man, or I won't let you off!"
Sophia originally didn't want to pay attention to her, but she also didn't want Jessica to feel too smug. Taking advantage of Victor not coming out yet, Sophia smiled and reminded her, "As his assistant, I'm more likely to get close to him, you know."
"What do you want to do?" Jessica suddenly panicked.
"What do you think?" Sophia didn't give a direct answer, but Jessica was already frightened and cursed, "You bitch!"
Sophia lowered her head and remained silent, holding onto the documents.
Jessica was puzzled by how suddenly Sophia became timid. She turned around only to find Victor walking out with the keys. She thought to herself, 'Victor must have heard what I just said. That bitch Sophia dares to frame me!'
Jessica was furious. She caught up with Victor, wanting to explain to him, but he ignored her and gave her a cold glance. Jessica was scared and quickly shut her mouth. She stood still, angrily watching the silhouette of Sophia and Victor leaving together.
"Mr. Hastings, where are we going?" Sophia asked smugly.
"We're going to meet someone," Victor replied, tossing the keys to Sophia. "Drive."
"Me?" Sophia was taken aback.
Victor was displeased. "Is it me?"
"Oh," Sophia clumsily got into the driver's seat and asked, "Where are we going?"
"Ozonia Café," Victor replied indifferently.
Ozonia Café was a famous nearby coffee shop. Sophia thought that Victor was going to meet a client. When they arrived, she realized that he was meeting Zach's father, Stefan Carter!
Sophia was completely stunned. She stood there dumbfounded, not knowing what to do.
Stefan noticed her and smiled, asking, "Victor, who is this?"
"My companion," Victor casually replied.
Stefan felt a little surprised. He couldn't help but take another look at Sophia and asked, "When did you develop an interest in this field?"
"Recently," Victor called Sophia over and asked her to greet Stefan.
She was so scared that her heart almost jumped out! This middle-aged man who looked very young almost became her father-in-law, and Victor even called her his companion in front of Stefan!
Sophia was well aware that in the eyes of the rich, a companion meant a mistress, something that couldn't be made public. Victor was insulting her!
She forced a smile and confidently said, "Mr. Carter, hello. I am Mr. Hastings' assistant. Today, I am acting as his companion. If I have done anything wrong, please forgive me."
Victor frowned. He didn't expect her to dare to explain herself! He thought, 'Is she preparing to marry into the Carter family and become the lady of the house? Does she deserve it?'
Stefan, on the other hand, smiled and said, "It's alright. Please have a seat, don't stand."
"Thank you," Sophia sat down and remained silent.
Stefan and Victor chatted for half an hour before leaving. Since it was only 8 p.m., Victor asked Sophia to drive him home, but she refused. She was angry about being referred to as a companion earlier.
"I can drive you home, but explain to me why you said I was your companion," Sophia challenged.
Victor held her chin. "As I said, you are exactly that. Get in the car."
Sophia cried. Although she felt extremely wronged, she did not dare to argue. She followed the navigation all the way to the Sorian residential area. Victor made her drive into Hastings Villa and then immediately kicked her out!
Sophia was somewhat displeased, but she didn't say anything. She left Hastings Villa with her bag and walked alone to the roadside, ready to hail a taxi. At that moment, she suddenly remembered that Liam was in Sorian. She quickly sent him her location and a message.
Sophia: [Liam, where are you? I'm coming to pick you up.]
In Hastings Villa, Liam, who was playing around Carolyn, picked up his phone and blinked his beautiful eyes. "Mrs. Hastings, my mommy's here."
"Is she? Where is she?" Carolyn asked.
Liam opened the location and happily said, "She's nearby!" After speaking, Liam ran to the window and stood on a stool to look outside. He indeed saw a slender figure standing not too far away, but she was getting farther and farther!
"Mummy!" Liam anxiously shouted out of the window, but Sophia didn't hear him. He jumped off the stool. "Mrs. Hastings, my mommy's here. I'm going downstairs to meet her."
Without waiting for Carolyn's response, Liam was already ecstatic. He opened the door and ran out.
He ran very fast, a small round figure, short and chubby. When he rushed out of the room, no one noticed. With a loud bang, Liam bumped into two hard objects. He fell to the ground, letting out a painful whimper.
"Liam, what happened!" Carolyn hurriedly came out.
Victor's handsome face turned dark. He looked down and saw a little child sitting on the ground, staring at him with a confused expression!
