Chapter 74 - Surprised by Three Mates

About 3 months later

From the gender tests, we found out we’re having 3 boys. And I can’t wait to get them out.

“Okay, you’re doing good.. I know it hurts, but soon you’ll be holding our pups.” Alexei’s voice honestly made my skin crawl. I’m in pain, I’m tired, hungry.. I wanted to rip Alastair off the hospital chair last night as he was snoring, while I couldn’t sleep. I know it’s just hormones and literally everything else.. but I just feel so awful right now.

I’ve been in this hospital forever. The doctor had to induce me because I began showing signs of preeclampsia.. If these pups don’t come out now, I’m going to pull them out myself.

“How are we doing?” The nurse came into the room to check up on me.

“Great,” Klaus said.

“Horrible,” I grumbled.

“Pretty good.” Alexei smiled.

“Excited!” Alastair said. I gave them all annoyed looks and the nurse giggled.

“It’s the same with everyone usually. The mates are happy, the woman in labor.. not so much. So, is there anything I can get for you? Ice?” The nurse asked.

“Unless you can get me a fat cheeseburger with extra onions and pickles.. ice will suffice,” I said.

“I’m sorry, sweetheart. It’s just a precaution in case you need a c-section.” She said. She looked at the screen portraying my contractions and the babies heartbeats, not saying a single word. Goddess, I hate when they do that.

“Mine if I check your cervix?” She asked. I scooted down on the bed and spread my legs like I have a few times before. This, this part sucks.

“Let’s do it,” I said. She washed her hands and dried them, then pulled on a pair of gloves.

“Okay, can you tilt your hips up just a little?” She asked. I did as she asked and felt the uncomfortable feeling of her checking my cervix.

“Oh wow.” She said. I looked at her and waited for an explanation.

“So, it seems you haven’t dilated at all since you got here. I’m going to go talk with the doctor and he’ll be in here to talk to you.” She said. She pulled her hands away and pulled off the gloves, then threw them into the bin.

After she left I lay there crying. I can already tell where this is leading.

My mates crowded me to console me, but it only made me feel worse. Will I even get to have a v*ginal birth?

“Let’s give her some room, guys. She’s freaking out.” Alexei said, his tone of voice making me feel horrible.

“I’m sorry..” I cried.

“It’s okay, moya prekrasnaya printsessa” (my beautiful Princess) Alexei said.

We waited a few minutes until the door opened and in walked the doctor.

“How are we feeling, today?” He asked. I just glared at him.

“Right.. so, there’s been no progression. And baby 2 and 3’s heartbeat keeps dipping. We’ve kept you in here long enough, with three failed inductions, and your blood pressure is too high to be comfortable with.. I think we should be safe and do a c-section. What do y’all think?” He asked.

“If there’s something going wrong with my babies let’s do it. I can’t take any more of this waiting, I’m so tired and a v*ginal birth just seems unrealistic now.” I said.

“Okay, the nurse is going to put in a second IV in case you need a blood transfusion during the c-section, especially because your iron is so low. Then we’ll get you in the O.R. and prepped for surgery.” He said.

“Does she get to be awake?” Alastair asked. The doctor nodded.

“Unless it gets bad, which I have a feeling won’t happen, she will be awake. Usually, only the mate gets to be in the room.. but since there are three of you, we can make an exception. I’ll have the nurses bring you the stuff you need to get ready.” He said.

“Will you still be able to do skin-to-skin immediately after they’re born?” Klaus asked. The doctor was quiet as he thought.

“As long as she’s alert and responsive.. I see no issue.” He said. That definitely made me feel better.

“Okay, I’ll let them get you ready.” He said before he walked out. I let out sobs. I’ve never had a surgery before, and suddenly I have a new fear. I found myself unable to breathe, but the nurse placed her hands on my knees and looked at me.

“Everything will be okay. Your mates will be right there as soon as it’s time.” She said. I tried to calm down my breathing, my heart racing fast and hard in my chest. I took a deep breath and let it out slowly. I kept doing that until finally, I was calm enough to sit still so she could put in the second IV.

The anesthesiologist came in and talked to me. Told me everything I needed to know. She looked at the drinks sitting by my bed and cocked an eyebrow at me.

“You haven’t had any of those today, right?” She asked. I shook my head.

“No, they’ve been just sitting there staring at me. I promise I haven’t had anything to eat or drink besides ice.” I said. She explained some more to me before she left.

A few nurses brought in some weird blue aprons, hair covers, and shoe covers. They put a hair cover on my head and got my bed ready to be moved to the O.R..

“We will be there whenever they let us.” Alexei kissed my forehead.

“We love you so much,” Klaus said as he did the same.

“You’ve got this. You’re the strongest woman we know.” Alastair said. He kissed my forehead as well before the nurses began to wheel me out.

“I had a c-section with my daughter. I had preeclampsia, induced at 37 weeks. Just like you, I had 2 failed inductions and it was getting too dangerous to keep trying. I was terrified. Let me tell you this, it was all worth it. Yes, it sucked that I didn’t get to have a natural birth.. but it takes someone strong to be able to go through it.” One of the nurses said. I could tell by her scent she is human.

“Will I feel anything?” I asked.

“I won’t lie to you, yes. But you shouldn’t feel any pain at all. Once you hear your babies for the first time, you won’t even be thinking about it.” She said. I nodded my head.

They wheeled me into the O.R., then one of the assistants helped me sit up and move to the operating table. The doctor turned on music, breaking Benjamin or something.. I can’t tell, my mind is too fuzzy from freaking out.

“Okay, take this pillow, lean over it some. I’m going to give you the spinal block.” The anesthesiologist said. I did as she asked, all while one of the assistants rubbed on my thighs. It was odd but somewhat comforting.

After a minute of prepping my back, the doctor took the assistant's spot and held my shoulders. I started crying, I didn’t even want an epidural, and now I have no choice.

“So.. what kind of music do you like?” The doctor asked. I didn’t answer as I felt the sharp pain from the need go into my back. It made me jump in pain, and both the anesthesiologist and the doctor spoke.

“You can’t do that. I know it hurts, but you can’t move, okay?” The doctor said.

“Please don’t move.” The anesthesiologist said. I nodded my head, the doctor patting my shoulder.

“Tell me what kind of music you listen to.. please tell me it’s not country.” He chuckled. It took my mind off the pain and I lightly laughed, trying not to move so much.

“Country sucks,” I said, a tear ran down my cheek and he wiped it away. He looked back at the anesthesiologist and nodded.

“Okay, let’s get you laid down.” He said. I scooted back and for some reason, laid on my side.

“Not on your side, on your back.” The doctor chuckled. My face turned bright red and hot. Goddess, that’s embarrassing.

I got into position as they hooked me up to different monitors. They used something to cover my view from my belly, then the door opened, and in walked my mates. They all looked ridiculous, wearing those blue aprons. It made me giggle.

Klaus held my right hand, Alexei held my left, and Alastair stood behind my head rubbing my cheek.

“Do you feel this?” The doctor asked as sharp pokes went all over my belly.

“Yes,” I said.

“Okay let’s lower her legs a little.” They tilted the bed down some and gave me a few minutes.

After a few, he did it again.

“Feel this?” He asked. I didn’t feel anything.

“Nope,” I said.

“Alright, let’s get started.” The nurse was right, I felt everything, but no pain. The tugging was so uncomfortable.. but I am grateful there’s no pain.

I sat there quietly, feeling everything and my mates stared at me with so much love. Black hole sun began playing on the speakers.

“Want to get pictures?” The doctor asked. Alastair fumbled in his pocket and pulled out his phone.

“I’m in charge of pictures.” He said. I felt the pull, and I knew they were pulling out the first baby.

“Oh, my gods.” Alexei sighed. I heard the click of Alastair’s phone. A few seconds of baby cries went by and the nurse walked over with the first baby.

“Here’s your first boy.” She said as she placed him on my chest. Tears ran down my face and into my hair as he stopped crying and instead started making cooing sounds.

“He’s so beautiful.” I cried. My mates crowded around, all trying to get looks.

“Next one.” The doctor said. Alastair pulled up his camera again, just as I felt them tug and pull out baby number two. The camera clicked, then the doctors cut the cord as he started crying. After a few moments, the nurse walked back over with him and placed him next to the first pup.

“Huh.. that’s weird.” The doctor said. I was so out of it o couldn’t even think to ask what.

“Camera ready?” Doctor asked. Alastair nodded. With another click of the camera, the baby cries.. then the nurse walked over.

“Here’s your third bit.” She said. She placed him on my chest next to his brothers, now Klaus and Alexei holding their hands on the pups to keep them on my chest.

“Camera ready?” The doctor chuckled.

“wait there’s another?” Alexei asked.

“Yes.” The doctor responded. I raised my eyebrows and looked at my mates.

Alastair clicked the camera again, crying filling the room. This pup had a strong set of lungs.

After a few moments, the nurse walked over with a pup in her hands.

“This one.. is a girl.” She said.

“A girl?” I asked tears filling my eyes once again.

“Yes, you have a daughter.” She said. My heart swelled with joy.

“We’re going to take them one by one, get them measured and checked out. They’ll be waiting for you when you’re back in your room.” She said. I nodded as one of the assistants came and took one of the pups. The nurse placed my girl down on my chest and smiled.

“Three boys, one hidden girl.” She said.
