Chapter 572 A Bad Mood
Chapter 572 A Bad Mood
John was dumbfounded.
"Dad, seriously? Isabella's husband can't be my uncle," John said, giving Owen a puzzled look.
Owen shot John a disapproving glare. Sometimes, John's brain worked at a snail's pace.
"You've been digging forever and still haven't figured out who Isabella's hubby is. That speaks volumes. Truth is, your uncle snatched your fiancée. If you don't buy it, ask Grandpa."
John turned to Mason right away. "Grandpa, is Dad telling the truth? This can't be real, can it?"
Clutching his fists, John stared at Mason, hoping for a denial.
But Mason just closed his eyes, let out a deep sigh, and said nothing, though it felt like he'd spilled the beans.
John slumped on the couch, muttering, "This can't be happening," over and over.
He tried to recall memories to refute Owen. But each time he teased Isabella, Michael would beat him up, a clear sign.
Initially, he thought it was elders looking out for the young ones. But with the small age gap between Michael and Isabella, it didn't add up.
"Why is this happening? How could this be? He's been lying to me, and so has Isabella."
John yanked his hair, growling in frustration.
He'd complained to Michael about Isabella and her husband before. Remembering those moments, Michael must've thought he was a joke.
Owen frowned at John's broken look.
"Get it together. You don't look like the heir to a big family acting like this."
Owen's soft roar snapped John back to reality.
John fell silent, head bowed.
Owen felt a bit let down by John but kept quiet. He shifted his gaze to Mason.
"Dad, I never got why you were so into Isabella. Is it just 'cause she reminds you of your first love? I think there's more to it. And how could you let Michael snatch Isabella away? Remember, she was supposed to marry John, as you arranged."
Mason's eyes turned icy.
"What did John do to Isabella that he didn't tell you about? How dare you question me when you let your son fool around with Bianca? Is that your idea of parenting?"
Owen brushed off the second part of Mason's words. He knew about John's thing with Bianca, thinking it was normal for a rich guy to have flings. But the first part intrigued him.
"What's your deal with Isabella?" Owen asked John, eyeing him.
John avoided the question, not wanting to delve into that issue again.
Owen noticed John's evasive gaze, his brows furrowing deeply, sensing John was hiding something crucial.
Mason snorted, breaking the silence. "Bianca tricked John into thinking she needed Isabella's kidney to survive. Your son even tried to kidnap Isabella to take her kidney forcibly. Michael intervened and saved her."
Owen's eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at John.
John awkwardly lowered his head further.
"You fell for it! How could you let a woman deceive you like that?" Owen's angry glare pierced John. It wasn't about John wanting Isabella's kidney; it was about being fooled by a woman and facing the shame of attempted kidnapping as a family heir – pure foolishness!
John bit his lip, staying silent.
Owen took a deep breath to calm his anger, then turned to Mason.
"Dad, despite our disagreements, you were right about one thing – Bianca isn't the right match for John."
Mason stayed silent, and Owen didn't push further.
Suddenly, Owen stood up and informed Mason, "Dad, I'll tell the press tomorrow that your health has worsened suddenly, and you're undergoing treatment. I'll take over the company's affairs."
With that, Owen headed to the door, nudging John's leg as he passed.
Mason kept his eyes shut until John and Owen left, then he sighed.
Outside the Williams Villa, John was still reeling from Owen's bombshell – his father planned to confine his grandfather.
"I heard you made a bet with Grandpa and lost 10% of your assets to him?" Owen's cold gaze fixed on John for an answer.
John nodded.
"Grandpa brought it up..."
Owen cut him off with a wave of his hand.
"Your grandpa did that to teach you a lesson and not fall for women's tricks again. In that sense, he did the right thing. But now, we need to stand together."
John wasn't clueless; he grasped Owen's next move.
"Dad, are you really going after Michael and Isabella? We're still family; can't we talk this out?"
Despite his reluctance, Isabella had somehow become family to him again.
Owen shook his head. "It's not an option. Michael and Isabella are now against Henry. Henry is Isabella's family's foe, and there's no chance for reconciliation. Plus, I can't let our family assets slip into Michael's hands."
Owen clenched his fists, a glint of determination in his eyes.
John tried to speak but found no words. The current Owen felt like a stranger to him.
After agreeing to return the assets, John left the villa. Instead of heading back to the vineyard, he had the driver take him to a bar.
Troubled, John sought solace in a drink but was taken aback to see Isabella in the bar.
