Chapter 6 Logan

Chapter 6 Logan
She is still quietly sobbing as I get her into the room and gently lay her down on the bed. Brushing some of her hair from her face and running my thumb under her eye to catch a couple of tears that escape.

“What can I get you?” I ask as I snuggle her further into the bed.

She hiccups and looks away before she answers with a whispered, “Just you.” She turns back to look at me and gives me a small smile.

“I am not going anywhere,” I say as I lift her up so I can snuggle in next to her. I wait until I hear her breathing even out and then I kiss her forehead and slide out of the bed. I pull the blanket to her chin and tuck her in, “I am just going downstairs to talk to Justin and Garrett.” I say speaking softly into her ear. She mumbles something and rolls over. I give her one last look and then I make my way downstairs.

I can hear Justin and Garrett in the kitchen chatting away. I chuckle to myself when Garrett says that I am whipped, and I haven’t even let the ink dry. I stride into the kitchen and say, “You’re just jealous.”

“That I am old man. That I am.” He says with a huge grin. “But I am happy for you. Viv was not good for you and I knew I could never say anything. I am just sorry how it all went down.” He looks down for a moment then back at me, “If I had known anything of what she and Brett were doing...”

“I know you would have stepped in.” I squeeze his shoulder and smile. “And that is why I love you baby boy.” I add with a laugh.

“You know how I feel about that nickname.” He shrugs me off with a huff.

Justin just sits back and chuckles as my brother and I pick at each other for a bit longer. Then he finally speaks up when Chet reenters the room. “So, what is the game plan here?”

Chet is the first to speak, “First, we get this boy divorced and then remarried the same day.”

We all chuckle at this, but I nod and look at my friends and family with a sly grin.

“I bet the Russell’s will not see this coming.” Chet says with a chuckle.

I say with a sigh. “I don’t care what anyone will think, my main concern is that Sunny is safe.”

“And that is all we want as well,” Garrett says in a firm voice and then adds. “Well, I also want her parents and Mr. Brighten in jail for a very long time.”

We all nod and look over to Justin who is now typing away on his laptop. He looks up and grins before he says, “I think I have an idea of just how we can get them to rat each other out.”

“Oh yeah, and what have you been up to over there?” I ask with a hint of mirth. I know that Justin is not only a wiz when it comes to computers, but he is also one the best men I know when it comes to using psychological warfare. So, when he says he might have a plan, I know that he is already three steps into that plan and possibly even further.

“Not much, I just been floating some ideas around,” Justin adds with a sly grin. “I mean, there are many ways we can attack this.”

Garrett puts his hands up as he stands and says, “I am going to take that as my cue to leave, because I cannot be privy to anything.” He looks directly at Justin and adds, “I want these guys the legal way.”

Justin just shrugs, then looks over and with one eyebrow raised. “Well then my first plan is out.”

Garrett just sighs and shakes his head, “When Sunny is ready, please bring her down to the office or I can come back here and get her testimony on tape.” Garrett says and pats my knee and strides out of the room.

“Hey, wait up for me,” I holler after Garrett. “I’ll be right back,” I say to Justin and Chet and then follow my brother to the door.

Garrett is waiting for me by the door.

“I will do what I can on this end, but I will protect her at all costs.” I add with a stiff tone.

“I would expect nothing less,” he says in a clipped tone, then he adds, “I feel the same way. But you understand that I cannot be a part of the illegal side. I want these guys bad and I can allow for some gray area here, but not much.”

I nod and clap him on his shoulder as I open the door. “No worries, we will get them, and they will never come near Sunny or anyone else ever again.” I say to him in a strong thick voice.

He nods and strides out the door and I watch him get into his truck and drive away. I stand there for a moment and just watch the wind blowing through the trees for a moment and then close the door and go back into the living room to find Chet and Justin bent over the laptop with an odd expression on their faces.

“And just what are you two looking at?” I ask with a slight edge to my voice.

Both Chet and Justin turn to look at me and Justin just turns the computer so I can see what they are looking at. I bend down and look at the screen and see that Mr. Brighten has once again emailed my company asking for my services in locating his wayward bride. Fuck that shit, he is not getting anywhere near her and as soon as Chet gives me the okay, I am marrying her.

“Chet is there any way to speed up this divorce?” I ask him without looking away from the screen.

“I can call the judge and see if I can expedite this by sending the video you took and see if we can get this done tonight.” He says quickly as he is dialing the judge.

I nod and look at Justin and ask, “So, what are your ideas to neutralize this threat?”

He smiles wide and rubs his hands together and opens his mouth just as Chet says a very loud thank you and gives out the fax number for here at the compound.

“I take it the judge was able to push it through without a trial.” I asked hopeful.

Chet nodded and then said, “Not only did he say hell yes to the divorce, he also signed off on an expedited marriage certificate. All you have to do is get Sunny to add her name and yours and you are wed.” He grins, “Oh, and he asks that you do it before midnight tonight.”

“That is amazing news,” I hooted so loud two of my men came running into the room. I turned and looked at them with the biggest grin on my face and said, “Get the backyard ready for a nighttime wedding. Sunny and I are getting married before midnight.”

They smiled wide and with a head nod they were gone. I turned to Justin and Chet still grinning like a loon, Justin was the first to break and said, “So, who’s the best man?” he chuckled.

“Well obviously it is going to be me.” Chet said with a chuckle himself. Then he added, “You know I expect to be a godfather soon, you aren't getting any younger.” He dodges my punch to his shoulder with an outright laugh.

“I better go and wake my bride and give her the great news.” I added and practically bounce out of the room. I shot a text off to Garrett to get his ass back here for my Midnight wedding. He answered almost as quickly as I hit send. ‘On my way to you.’ Then another came through with, ‘Fuck yeah, you know I would not miss it.’ I sighed and slowed my pace so that I did not startle Sunny.

I slowly opened the door to our room, and she was sleeping so peacefully I hated to wake her, but I couldn’t wait to tell her the amazing news and get her input on what she would like. I crept up to the bed and snuggled in behind her wrapping her up into my arms and kissing the back of her neck. She stirred slightly and I continued my mission of gently waking her with kisses.

“Sunny,” I said softly into her ear. “I have a surprise for you.”

She stirs and looks up at me and smiles, then she stretches. “What kind of surprise?”

I smile and kiss her forehead and help her sit up before I can tell her, there is a knock on the door. I look Sunny over and make sure she is covered before I say, “Come in.”

Justin pokes his head in, and he looks around quickly and smiles, “You have visitors, and should I put a call out to Stella and the dressmakers and make-up artists?”

“Yeah, just give me one minute and I will be down.” I say to him and turn to see a very confused Sunny.

“You got it boss,” Justin says, and he closes the door.

“So, what is going on?” Sunny asks in a small voice. One I don’t like and will spend the rest of our lives making sure she never feels small ever again.

“The judge granted my divorce today and he gave us a special marriage license. Only we need to get it done and signed and back on his desk by midnight.” I say with the biggest smile.

She looks at me with a slow smile and says, “So you get divorced and remarried on the same day?”

I nod and then get a worried feeling she might not like this idea.

“I think that is a wonderful Idea, because then you will never forget our anniversary.” She says with a chuckle. “Who is Stella?”

I kiss her deeply and when we break, “Stella is an amazing older woman who has great connections to everything and everyone.”

After about twenty or so minutes later, a knock sounds and the room is flooded with people. I look at Sunny and say with a smile, “Sweets, these ladies are going to help you get ready. I only ask that you don’t let them cover all your natural beauty with make-up.”

She smiles and nods. I stand and turn to Stella and say, “Thank you for coming so quickly and for bringing all your goodies.” I turn and look at Sunny with nothing but love and affection and tell Stella, “Take good care of my girl.”

“Always,” Stella chimes in a sing-song voice. “Now, you need to leave, I will not have you spoil the surprise.” She rushes to me and ushers me out of the room.

I take a longing look at Sunny as a laughing Stella closes the door in my face. I can still hear her chuckling and telling Sunny that I will more than likely send Justin or Chet up to check on their progress if she takes too long.

I chuckle to myself and make my way down the stairs and reach the bottom just in time to see Garrett come strolling in.

“Hey there Groom-ee,” He smiles and laughs at his own silliness.

“Just wait, I will be front and center when it happens to you.” I answer and give him a manly bro-hug.

“So, where is the bride to be?” He looks around and smiles.

“Stella is getting her ready in our room.” I answer. “Let’s go see how everything is coming together. I lead him toward the back of the house to see how the guys are faring.

Sunny

I can’t believe I am getting married in a matter of hours. I watch as Logan leaves and Stella and her crew come rushing in. Once the door is closed, she looks me up and down and smiles bright.

“Aright girls,” she says while clapping to gain the attention of all other women in the room. “This is Mrs. Marshall, and we need to get her ready for her wedding tonight.” She finishes with a wide smile.

The girls all clapped and smiled. I feel both excited and nervous because this was all happening so fast and yet not fast enough. It is weird, two weeks ago I thought my life as I knew it was over. Now here I am getting married to a man I just met and yet I already feel as though I have known him all my life. I watch as the ladies get to work setting up a make-shift salon to do my hair, nails and make-up. Not to mention the rolling cart of exquisite looking wedding dresses.

“Okay, now Mrs. Marshall, let’s get you ready. We will start with the shower.” She says with a smile and hands me robe and ushers me to the bathroom and the waiting shower. “We will be out here finishing getting ready for you. Once you are done, just come on out and we will do your nails first, then everything else. Oh, and we will have you choose a dress, Zelda here is the best and fastest seamstress in the western hemisphere.”

I enter the bathroom and turn on the shower, while I wait for it to warm up, I look at myself in the mirror and smile. I know this is happening way too fast by most standards, but to me it feels so long overdue. I also know that part of this is being done to protect me from my family and Mr. Brighten and I am okay with that. I remove my robe and enter the shower to wash away the last three weeks of my life’s troubles and to allow all the good that is in my future
