Chapter 47 - Dean’s POV

I wanted to protest but my father would never take no for an answer. So here I am, driving my parents to my place. I gave Sky a heads up, but she has not responded yet. She and Jax might be resting.

As usual, the nursery rhyme playing in the background drowned out the ding of the elevator.

“Dad!” Jax drove his electric mini car towards us. His smile was from ear to ear. He braked with precision inches before he hit my shin.

I pulled him up in his car, and he shrieked in laughter. Then his eyes looked at my companions. His large blue eyes looked at my mother, then at my father. When he did not recognize our visitors, he hid his face in my neck as he peeked at my parents.

“Jax, this is grandma and grandpa.” I said, motioning to my mother, then to my father. My son said nothing and continued to peek at his grandparents from the crook of my shoulder.

“Can I carry him, son?” asked my dad.

I gave Jax to him, but his hands tightened around my neck. “Maybe later, dad. He needs to warm up.”

“That’s fine. You’re like that when you were little. Where’s his mom?”

Only then did I notice Sky was not around. “Where’s Mama, Jax?”

“There,” he said, his chubby finger pointing to the washroom. “Mama is sick.”

Mom’s brows creased after hearing what Jax said. “Is everything alright, Dean?”

“Yes, Ma. She’s in her first trimester and the doctor assured us it’s normal.”

“What? Say that again, Lysander.”

“Dad, we’re having another baby.”

“Unbelievable! And when do you plan to introduce her to us? When you have another toddler?”

“Dean?” Sylvia’s voice silenced my father. She stood in front of the washroom, looking slightly pale. At first I thought morning sickness happened only in the morning. They should change that name to all-day sickness.

Sky throws up at different times of the day, sometimes even more than once. I had to stop wearing colognes because she threw up at the scent of it. She said it smelled like a man. Of course it does! But you can’t argue with a pregnant woman’s senses. Sky herself is annoyed with her body.

I put Jax down and walked towards her. Mom happily crouched down and hugged him. Jax did not complain, but he remained in his place and only watched mom.

“You OK, love?” I asked, tucking away a stray hair to the back of her ears. Sky nodded but her eyes were on my parents.

I pulled her with me and walked towards my parents. “Mom, Dad, this is Sylvia Kate Yabut. Sylvia, this is my mom, Alexandra Politis, and my dad, Leandro Aguilar.” Sky extended her hand to my parents.

My mother gave her a peck on the cheeks while my dad, the hugger, enclosed her in a warm embrace.

“How far along are you?” mom asked and touched Sky’s flat stomach.

“I’m on my tenth week, ma’am.”

“Hmm… nice, nice. Shouldn’t you be calling me mom?” mom asked, smiling.

Sky looked at me, and I only gave her a smile.

“Is the baby giving you a hard time?” asked my dad.

“A little, sir. It’s something new for me because I never had morning sickness with Jax.”

“I see. Call me dad, dear.” he flashed her a rare smile.

“Dad.”

“More like it.”

“Have you guys eaten? I’ll set the table.” Sky said and walked towards the kitchen.

I helped her set the table while my parents busied themselves with Jax. He’s slowly warming up to them. He showed them his drawings. And my father couldn’t be happier. He kept saying Jax will be construction magnate like himself.

After a while, the five of us gathered around the dinner table and savored Sky’s cooking. She made a light salad and grilled chicken. For Jax, she made him his favorite fish and chips. I had to explain to them we’re controlling Jax’s salt and sugar intake.

“Via, does Jax have any special medical condition? Why he’s on such a diet?” asked mom, as she was cutting her grilled chicken into pieces.

“No, mom. Jax’s normal but I wanted him to eat healthy while he’s still young. I did not want him to develop a sweet tooth early.”

“I see. That’s nice, actually. Dean was toothless when he was Jax’s age.”

“Mom!”

“Well, you were, darling.”

Sky only smiled at me and squeezed my leg from under the table.

“So, he never had candy ever, Sylvia?” asked dad.

“Yes, as far as I know. His nanny followed my instructions to the t, so does my friend Joey. I am not sure if my parents did not sneak in treats for him when I am not around.”

My dad gave a chesty laugh at Sky’s answer. “Grandparents are spoilers, but I will do my best to not mess with Jax’s food.”

It surprised me that stories and laughter filled our dinner time. Growing up, dad drilled me to keep meal times quiet. I also noticed my parents enjoying Sky’s food a little too much. Both of them were already on their seconds while I hardly had any on my plate.

It’s obvious that my parents were curious about Sky because all they’ve done was ask her questions. She had graciously answered each of them, much to the delight of my parents. There are a lot of things I learned about Sky by listening to her talk to my parents.

I did not know she used to study engineering but shifted to literature or that it was her grandmother who taught her how to cook.

“Sylvia, I hope you don’t mind me asking. Are you related to Jared Castro?” mom asked out of the blue. Her question surprised even me. How did she know that, asshole?

“Uhm… he was my fiancé.”

“Oh, I see. What happened?”

“Alexandra! What are you trying to do? Sylvia, please excuse my wife.” Dad glared at mom. Both she and Sky only smiled at Dad.

“Well, I asked because I remembered something. Jared modeled for me once or twice. But his girlfriend back then got so pissed because she discovered a room filled with another girl’s photos in his house. Of course I checked it, and now I know who that girl is.” Mom winked at Sky, which made her blush.

What the fuck, mom.

“He was into photography. Those were more likely his samples.”

“Oh, I don’t think so. I’ve seen the photos, dear. They’re mostly candid and they filled his wall. It’s sweet but also borderline creepy.”

“So, what are you trying to say, mom? Are you telling Sky to get back together with that jerk?” I did not hide my irritation when I said my words.

“Oh, hush it. Of course not. I just remembered it, OK? The girl droned on about Jared planning to get back together with her ex and bring her to Malta. Their fight was outrageous. She almost burned down his room.”

Sky and I looked at each other after hearing what mom said. So Jared planned to get back together with Sky? Was that why he was angry at her for using the trip alone because he’s supposed to spend it with her, not as a honeymoon gift but as a peace offering?

My parents stayed for a couple of hours more before I shooed them away. Only when I promised to bring Jax and Sky home over the weekend did they agree to leave.

Sky was tidying up our room when I got in. I had just tucked our boy into his room. After knowing his mother was carrying his baby brother or sister, he insisted on sleeping in his room. He said he did not want to squish his sibling.

I hugged her from behind and nibbled on her earlobe.

“Dean… remember what the doctor said?”

“I know.” I said, pouting my lips and hugging her from behind. “So, he wanted to get back together with you…”

Sky looked at me with an arched brow. “Why, Dean? Do you want me to get back together with him?”

“Over my dead body.” I bit on her shoulder. “Do you want to?”

“Are you honestly asking me that?” She faced me with her hands on her waist. I love seeing her feisty. I pulled her closer to me and gave her mouth a kiss.

“Love, I’ve been thinking of the best time for this, but I couldn’t find any. So, I’m just going to wing it.” She looked at me with her brows knitted. “You and Jax are the best gift I’ve received my whole life. And I couldn’t see myself living another day without you in my life. Will you marry me, Sky?”

She looked at me with her tear-filled eyes. Each second she looked at me speechless scared me. But she nodded her head and gave my mouth a kiss. I tasted the saltiness of her tears on my tongue.

“Love, I want to hear it,” I whispered as I trailed kisses all over her face.

“Yes, I will marry you, Dean. I love you.”
