Chapter 45 - Dean’s POV
What did she say? Did I hear her right? I felt Sky take my hand from her chest and moved it down her abdomen. My eyes never left hers. She looked at me with such intensity; I felt my insides melt.
“I have not gone to the doctor yet. But my tests came out positive.”
Is this for real? I did not want to assume. My fragile heart couldn’t take it if my assumption turned out to be wrong. I remain glued to my spot.
“Are you mad, Dean?” She asked. Her voice sounded concerned. She’s about to take my hand from her stomach but I stopped her.
“Sky, spell it out to me, please. Don’t scare me by making me jump to conclusions.” My heart is having a riot in my chest, and I fear that I might have a heart attack.
“I’m pregnant, Dean.”
“Are you sure?”
“I did three tests, but I’ll confirm with a doctor when Jax gets better.”
“Sky…”
“It’s ok, Dean. I understand. This is not a part of your plan—”
I didn’t wait for her to finish her words. I’m way too happy to let her blabber. “Sky, I am a dad again, right?” I felt my tears sting my eyes. I did not care. All I wanted was to hear her confirmation. She nodded and her hand wiped my tears away.
“Yes!” I shouted, making Jax stir in his sleep. When he did not cry, I hugged Sky. Best day ever!
I stayed with them and did not let Sky move an inch. I did not know my way around the kitchen, so I ordered food for us. She complained, but I shushed her complaints with my kiss. All she had to do was rest and feed Jax.
“This is Ocean’s house?” I asked while we were having dinner.
“Yeah. He left this to me and his car before settling in Singapore.”
“Left? Like this house and the car are yours now?”
“Yeah. But we agreed I’d transfer them to Kailani when she comes of age.”
I nodded and continued to eat my meal. I also spooned some soup for Jax.
“What’s wrong with Jax?”
“He’s teething. Molars. That’s why it’s extra painful.” I looked at my son, who barely touched his food.
“He’ll be fine, Dean. That’s the last tooth he’d grow. It’s actually late already.”
After eating, I took care of our dishes while she brought Jax to the bed. She had just changed him to a new set of clothes when I came in. My son looked a little livelier and played with me. Sky took this chance to open her laptop and do some work.
When Jax felt tired, he climbed up to his mother’s lap. Sky carried him to the bed and fed him until he fell asleep.
“So about Hunter….” I said out of the blue as I watched her do her thing on her laptop. She looked at me for a second, then closed her laptop.
“What about him? How did you know him?” She sat at the edge of the bed and patted on the space beside her. I sat in the space she showed, and she cuddled her.
“We had dinner with the gang and Joey bumped into him.”
“I see.”
“Wanna tell me something?”
Sky shifted her body to look at me clearly. “Tell you something? About Hunter?” I nodded.
“I met him when I was in Malta. They’re a group of friends who just graduated from college and went on a road trip. I bumped with them when I was in Blue Lagoon and joined them after. We’ve been in touch since.”
“Hmm.”
“Hmm?” Sky had her brows arched on me. “What’s that for?”
“Nothing. And what about Mr. Sex-on-a-stick?” It’s my turn to arch my brow at her. Seeing her face change into different shades of red was so satisfying. I wanted to laugh my heart out, but I did my best to rein it in.
“Dean!” she screamed and burrowed her face in her palms. Her ears were so red, I couldn’t help myself but nibble on them.
“Yes? Wanna tell me something?” I whispered in her ear.
“Who told you about it?”
“Hunter.”
“What a gab. That useless piece of shit, I’ll kick him when I see him.”
“I’m still waiting, Sky.”
“What can I say? The name suits you.”
I could not help but laugh out loud. My sides hurt. “And you thought I was an escort? What made you say that?”
“Did he say that too?”
I nodded, sniggering. She rolled her eyes at me. The redness of her cheeks intensified at my question.
“I was wrong, OK? Ocean explained to me how wrong I was. Sorry.”
“What made you think I was an escort?”
“I don’t know. Maybe because you kept looking at me?”
“Yeah. I was checking you out. Is that why you left me a hundred euros?”
“Dean! Stop it already,” she gave my arm a pinch. It stung a little, but I did not complain. I wrapped my arms tighter around her and nibbled on her earlobe. Sky felt like butter melting in my arms and I loved it.
“Sky…”
“Hmm?” she said as she snuggled closer to me, finding her sweet spot.
“About Thalia. I don’t know why Thalia did what she did but we’ve not talked to each other for months, let alone be intimate with her. But I will fix it, Sky.”
Sky did not say a word. Her eyes searched my face and I’ve never felt so uncomfortable in my life. It felt like she’s digging into my soul, trying to figure out if I’m being honest or being a jerk. I mustered all my courage and met her brown, searching eyes.
“You need to have a plan and deal with her. I will not subject my son to such a mess, Dean. I love you and I’d like to spend my life with you, but if it means my son’s life is getting messy, I’d rather not.”
She took a deep breath, as if trying to steady herself. She opened and closed her mouth twice, as if trying to weigh the words she wanted to say.
“This might sound harsh, Dean, but Jax and I can manage without you. It’s tough, yes. It’ll be tougher not that he knows you, but I know we can pull through. So, if having you in our life means destroying my son’s peace, I think we’d be better off as friends.”
She’s right. Every word she said sliced me to bits, but I could only nod at her because she’s right. She and Jax lived a happy life without me, and they could continue living that life on their own. They don’t need me. But I need them. Badly. But I get her. If having me in me in their life means dragging Jax into my shit, then she’s right, we’d be better off as friends.
Friends. Fuck. Who wants that? I already got friends. I want her for my wife. She, Jax, our new baby, and I as a family.
“I’ll deal with Thalia. Sky, I want us to be a family. I’ve never wanted something so bad in my life. It’ll be the death of me if I spend another day apart from you and my children.”
“OK.”
“Also, let’s move to my place. I don’t want to sleep in another man’s house.”
“Ugh! I have just unpacked our stuff, Dean. Besides, Jax is sick.”
“Leave your stuff here.”
She’s about to protest but I squinted my eyes at her. It’s non-negotiable. There’s no way my family is living in another man’s lair. I’ve so many properties in the city and in the country they could pick from. Sky sighed and nodded her head before lying down beside Jax.
