Chapter 41 - Dean’s POV
I looked at the darkness before me, thinking about Sylvia. I hurt her and I hate myself for doing that.
We have so much to talk about. I wanted to talk to her, but I did not know where to begin. I did not know how to face her.
“Dean, don’t you have plans to fetch Sylvia?” Joash asked, sounding a little irritated.
“Why, where is she?”
“What do you mean, ‘where is she?’ You don’t know? Fuck, man, don’t you care about her at all?”
“Hey, watch your words. Just tell me where she is.” My voice went lower, and my eyes were shooting daggers at my friend. I’ve no time for bullshits.
“At the dance floor. Giving Daisy’s friends a good show.”
“What?!?” I rushed out to the poolside bar, and just as Joash said, Sky’s dancing like there’s no tomorrow. Her hips swayed to the beat of the music. Her eyes were closed so she couldn’t see the three pimply teens trying to squeeze her. Fuck.
She must have felt tired because she walked towards the bar and sat on a stool. She ordered a cocktail. Tequila sunrise again.
One of the pimply teens from the dance floor followed her, but he stopped in his tracks when he noticed me glaring at him.
Dare to follow Sky to the bar and I’d turn you to my punching bag. And boy, I needed to beat somebody.
The boy walked back to his peers at the dance floor. I knit my brows when I saw Sky leave the bar. She looked like she’s heading back to the dance floor. Oh hell no, not when I’m here.
She has not yet taken two steps when she looks like she’s about to fall. I rushed to her side, just in time to catch her when she lost consciousness. Damn, she’s so drunk, she actually passed out.
I carried her back to our room, removed her clothes, and wiped her body.
“Dean…” she called, stirring from her sleep.
“I’m here, Love.”
“What about Jax?”
Her question froze me. It tore me apart. Did she think I’d abandon her and our son for Thalia?
“Sky…” my voice broke. “I won’t abandon you and Jax.” I felt my tears roll down from my eyes. You two are my everything. How could I give you up?
She did not answer and just turned to her side. She was sleep-talking. I watched her sleep, afraid she might disappear when I close my eyes.
I didn’t know what time I fell asleep, but it was already noon when I woke up. The harsh sunlight felt hot on my face, making me feel uncomfortable.
I turned to my side to avoid the harsh light on my face. My hand felt the space Sky slept in last night. My eyes flew open when I felt she’s no longer beside me. The space she slept in was already cold.
Fuck! It’s like a deja vu. This is exactly what happened three years ago. I searched the room for her stuff, and I was right, all her stuff gone.
Shit, why did I fall asleep!
I put on my robe and rushed out of my suite. My fist hammered on Vince’s door.
My friend opened the door, irritation written on his face. The towel wrapped around his waist did a poor job of hiding his erection.
“Where is she?” I said in a frantic voice as I stormed inside their suite.
“Who are you looking for?” Vince asked with a scowl. Then Joey stepped out of the room, wrapped in a thick robe.
“Joey… Via… Where is she?” I asked, my voice shaking.
“I left her with Daisy last night,” she said in an icy tone. She’s angry at me, I get it. “Why, Dean, did something happen to Via?”
I inhaled deeply and paced their room. Hands on my waist. “She’s gone. Are you sure you don’t know where she is?”
Joey rolled her eyes at me. “I don’t know where she went. And even if I do, I won’t tell you because all you’d ever give my friend is heartache.”
“Joey, please don’t do this,” I pleaded. Something I have not done in a long time.
“I really don’t know where she is, Dean. Swear.” I searched her face for any trace of a lie, but I found nothing. In my frustration, I punched the wall before leaving their suite.
I went back to.my suite to fix myself and hurriedly left for Baguio. She’d be there, for sure.
My drive to Baguio was difficult. My heart and mind were in chaos, but I had to concentrate. I could not afford an accident to delay me. I needed to see Sky and Jax.
My heart drummed in my chest for every moment that passed. I’d take everything Sky would give me. She could scream at me and hurt me all she wants. I’d take all the painful words she’d give me. She could beat me black and blue, and I would put my hands on my back. Anything as long as she and Jax do not leave me.
Sky’s mom looked surprised to see me when she opened the door.
“Dean? Why are you here? I thought you and Sylvia would go straight to Manila, so you had Jax fetched?” Sky’s mom asked in surprise.
What?!? Somebody fetch my son? I felt like being skinned alive when I heard Sky’s mother’s words. So Jax isn’t here? They’re gone?
No! I will not allow it The way Sylvia’s mother looked at me told me she did not know what’s going on. I did not want her to worry, so I calmed myself.
“Yes, Ma. I left something, so I dropped by.”
“I see. Well, come in then.”
I went upstairs to Sylvia’s room. My heart ached at the sight of it. In this tiny room, I experienced my family—played with my son, and made love to my wife. Yes, wife, that’s what she is to me. We might not have a paper that says that, but for me, only Sky could be my wife.
I checked her stuff and saw that they’re untouched. She did not go here. She went straight to Manila like her mother said.
I respectfully said goodbye to Sky’s mom before returning to my car. I raced against time to go back to Manila.
I knocked on her apartment door without stopping. My forehead creased when an old man opened it for me. Only then did I remember Jared sold the house and there were new occupants there already.
Sky, where are you?
