Claire nodded, her lips curling into a soft smile. "Sounds perfect."

They stood up together, and Sammie reached for his jacket before slipping it on. Claire grabbed hers, and they walked out the door into the cool night air. It wasn’t too cold, just crisp enough to make the air feel fresh. The streets were mostly empty, the soft hum of the city behind them. It was peaceful. Almost like they were the only two people left in the world.

As they strolled down the quiet street, Claire found herself more relaxed than she had been in a while. There was something about Sammie’s presence that made her feel safe. There were no pretenses between themno games. Just two people walking side by side, their paths uncertain but promising.

"So," Claire began, breaking the silence as they walked, "What’s your story, Sammie?"

He turned his head to look at her, raising an eyebrow slightly. "My story?"

"Yeah," Claire smiled, her voice teasing. "We’ve had some moments, but I feel like I don’t really know much about you."

Sammie chuckled softly. "Fair enough. I guess I’ve always kept things a bit private. But... I don’t know, maybe it’s time I open up a little."

Claire could see the hesitation in his eyes. She didn’t want to pressure him, but she did want him to feel comfortable enough to share. She nudged him lightly with her shoulder. "Whenever you’re ready."

Sammie took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, as if deciding whether to continue. Then, with a quiet chuckle, he said, "Alright, I guess I’ll start with the basics. I’ve always been kind of a lone wolf. Never really got close to anyone, if I’m being honest. I’ve had my share of bad relationships, which is why I’ve kept my distance."

Claire nodded, understanding more than she let on. She had her own reasons for keeping people at arm’s length. "I get it. I’ve been there too. Sometimes it’s easier to keep people out than to let them in."

"Yeah," Sammie agreed. "But then I met you. And everything changed."

His words hit her harder than she expected. The sincerity in his voice made her heart skip a beat. She had always tried to avoid vulnerability, but with Sammie, it felt different. It felt safe.

"I didn’t expect it either," Claire said softly, her voice almost a whisper. "But here we are."

Sammie smiled at her, a genuine smile that made her feel all sorts of things. There was something about himsomething magnetic. He wasn’t just the guy she’d met at a bar anymore. He was someone she could see herself growing with, even if they didn’t know where this was going yet.

They continued walking in comfortable silence, the city lights flickering in the distance. The closer they got to a small park, the more the moment felt like something out of a movieone of those rare, perfect moments where time seemed to stop.

As they sat down on a bench, Sammie took her hand in his again, his thumb gently brushing over her knuckles. The intimacy was natural, a silent understanding that neither of them had to say anything to know what they wanted.

"I’m not looking for anything complicated," Sammie said, breaking the silence again. "I’m not perfect, and I know I can be a bit of a mess sometimes, but... I like being with you. More than I thought I would."

Claire’s heart fluttered again at his words. It was rare to find someone who was willing to be that open. She squeezed his hand, the gesture simple but filled with meaning. "I’m not looking for anything complicated either. But I think we both deserve something real, whatever that looks like."

Sammie’s eyes softened as he leaned in slightly, his forehead resting against hers for a moment. The simple touch sent a wave of warmth through Claire. It was the kind of moment that made her feel as if the world had faded away, leaving only the two of them in it.

"You’re right," Sammie whispered, his breath warm against her skin. "I don’t want to let this go."

Claire smiled, her chest tight with emotion. "Neither do I."

And with that, their lips met again, slowly, softly. No urgency, no rush. Just the quiet connection of two people finding their way toward something neither of them had expected. Something real. Something worth holding onto.
