Why Force Yourself to Eat It?!
Why Force Yourself to Eat It?!
Evans was brought out of the car, but he said no words and no longer fought back. He knew no matter how much he fought back, they wouldn't release him, but one thing he realised was that his position in the family had gotten so low that even an outsider had the right to insult him.
Without a word, he walked into the house with a gloomy aura, his eyes were indifferent and emotionless if this place wasn't his home but a cage.
Before he got inside, he had heard the loud joyful laughter inside the house. Evans sneered and his eyes turned cold. He really didn't want to see Jesse, but does he have any choice?
He inhaled deeply, then raised his hand to open the door before entering, but the moment he walked in, it was like the laughter in the room seized. It didn't feel like it was a family coming in but their enemy but Evans who was used to it didn't say a word as he bowed his head while changing into his home slippers.
“Oh! You’ve decided to come home?” His father’s mocking voice sounded.
Evans raised his head with a sneer on his face, but his eyes collided with the man sitting elegantly on the couch as if he were the owner of the house.
Evans’ breath paused, his eyes which were fixed on the man narrowed, then dimmed immediately, his eyes moved to the person sitting beside him and his body froze when he saw the familiar gentle figure.
It was like he had returned to the past. The past where he had to look on as the man he loved acted lovingly with his elder brother.
His body trembled, his eyes looked at their locked hands, then shifted to the indifferent face of Nathan who was now looking down.
“Evans! How’re you?! I wasn't expecting you to come home!” A gentle voice broke through his daze as he slowly turned to look at Jesse who had rushed toward him and was now holding his hand.
Evans’ body stiffened and he unconsciously jerked his hand back from Jesse’s hold which stunned everyone.
“Evans..?” Jesse muttered in confusion.
Evans frowned and looked at his confused face with a sneer.
“You decided to come back? I thought you wanted to live forever with your secret lover?” He asked spitefully.
Everyone stiffened including Nathan who was getting bored. He raised his head and fixed his deep gaze on the young man standing confidently in the middle of the room.
“Evans!”
“Bastard! What are you saying about your brother?! Apologise!” Grandpa Hart interrupted Jesse whose heart had skipped a beat.
Evans looked at every one of them except Nathan, he sneered, then ignored them and walked towards the far corner of the couch, He brought out his phone to check the school website.
Feeling ignored, both Jesse and Father Hart felt something stifle their chest but they just couldn't let it out.
Jesse sighed in sadness, returned his gaze to Nathan but frowned when he noticed that Nath was looking at Evans. His heart skipped a beat as he feared that Nathan would begin to suspect him again.
He immediately returned to sit next to Nathan, frowned uncomfortably, then tried to secretly rub his chest but he made sure it was in a place Nathan would surely look at and he bet right.
“Are you okay? I told you not to get agitated!”
Evans stiffened hearing the genuine concern in the voice of Nathan. His eyes shifted but he didn't raise his head, though his fingers which were tapping on his phone moved faster.
“It's fine, Nath. You don't need to bother. It's just…” Jesse paused and when Nathan followed his gaze, he found out he was looking at Evans with sad eyes.
Nathan frowned as he looked at the indifference on Evans’ face, he was so cold like he wouldn't even be bothered if Jesse died.
He just couldn't understand what was going on. He knew the Hart family were biased toward their elder son and this might have caused Evans to feel bad and sad, but it shouldn't have been to the extent of hating Jesse, right?
He had really been stunned when Evans came in as he wasn't expecting him, he had at first felt a bit awkward and guilty but after seeing Evans acting coldly towards him, he kept quiet and reasoned that Evans might not want anyone to know about them. Besides, Nathan also couldn't let this complicated matter out of the box.
Nathan coughed a bit, looked at Evans who ignored them as he did his own thing, then shifted his gaze back to Jesse, “Since he doesn't want to talk to you, let him be.” He stood up after, which surprised everyone, “It's time for me to leave. Take care of yourself and you shouldn't worry about anything for now.” He said, then raised his legs to leave but he felt a strong hold on his shirt.
Nathan turned around in surprise only to see Jesse looking at him with red eyes, “Are you still angry with me? I want to eat dinner with you, Nath.”
Nathan sighed and irritation flashed through his eyes.
Did Jesse think after all this tumbling of the day, he would be able to eat comfortably with him? Besides, he didn't want to eat with the two brothers, especially with Evans whom he felt guilty for.
“Yes, President Nathan, please do eat with us.” Grandpa Hart followed.
Now, Nathan had no way of rejecting their invitation and it was also around that time that the maid came to announce dinner was ready.
The family sat down to eat with Evans sitting across from Nathan and Jesse who sat together.
Even if he had no appetite, Evans had to force himself to eat the food. His tummy rolled in disgust especially when he saw the medium-cooked meat his mother had put in the plate of Jesse and maybe she felt guilty, so she placed one in his plate too.
Evans looked at the meat in shock but also disgust. His nose twitched and his stomach churned. He raised his head and found his mother looking at him.
“Why are you looking at me that way? Eat up!” His mother said, as she pointed at his plate.
Her voice caught the attention of everyone including Nathan.
He looked at Evans' pale face, then at his hand which held the utensil tight while cutting the half-cooked meat. Nathan's frown deepened as he thought of something.
He turned to look at the faces of the Hart family, then focused on Mother Hart who had returned to picking up food for Jesse.
His eyes narrowed as coldness flashed in his eyes, “You don't need to eat it if you don't like it.” He slammed his hand on the table with force, “Why force yourself to eat what you hate?!” Nathan’s cold voice sounded shocking to the entire table.
Evans who was about to put the meat into his mouth stiffened. He raised his head and found everyone’s eyes focused on him.
“What..?” He stammered nervously.
“What? You hate eating half-cooked food, so why force yourself to eat it?!” Nathan asked again with his cold eyes focused on Evans who shifted awkwardly.
Mother Hart looked at them in shock, “What?!” She exclaimed, “You don't like it? Why didn't you say so?!” She blamed Evans.
Evans was speechless.
Nathan was also a bit stunned. He frowned, looked at the food on the table and a look of understanding flashed through his eyes, “Why blame him? You surprise me, Madam Hart. You don't know your second son hates eating half-cooked foods, especially meat?” His eyes stared pointingly at her.
Evans’ heart began beating fast, his eyes looking at Nathan in surprise, his fist clenched and unclenched as he looked at the man sitting upright like a king in his own domain.
Even his own family didn't know what he loved eating, but he had only lived with Nathan for a while and he knows….
“I—”
“Enough!” The calm voice of Grandpa Hart sounded.
He glared at Madam Hart reproachfully, “You should admit you’re wrong and stop trying to defend yourself.” He scolded, then turned to Nathan, “President Nathan, we let you see a joke.”He sighed and looked at Evans with a worried face before returning his gaze to Nathan..
“It's just that, the youngest son is not really close with us right from his childhood as he preferred to stay with his nanny. Besides, Today is to welcome Jesse back home and the cook had excitedly prepared his favourite without thinking much.” He paused, turned to the calm-looking Evans, then asked, “Evans wouldn't blame his mother, right?”
Evans stiffened, he raised his head and looked at his grandpa. Seeing the warning look in his grandpa’s eyes, he chuckled gently then his eyes became cold.
He dropped his spoon, stood up, “I’m done eating. Thanks for the meal, though.” He announced and began walking out but Jesse’s curious voice stopped him.
“Hold on!” Jesse spoke up.
“I’m curious, how did Nathan know what you hate?!”
