39. Zia's POV - Poisoning

39. Zia's POV - Poisoning
Zias POV

It’s another Monday morning and I’ve had to spend 6 hours daily working out in the gym all thanks to the delayed uniform measurement.
But even after I got it this morning, it still ended up dropping. The excitement was shared with a blowjob which I happily gave.
I have to say that I was now addicted to taking my boyfriend’s—Cain’s dick in my mouth as much as he loved to give it.
The pain after every workout has also been the worst but the gains have made it worth it.
After happily stitching my new uniform because it was once again bigger than my new size, we got ready for school.
“You don’t have to worry about anything today. I have your back and no one dares to come after you. Not when they know you’re mine.” he said.
I nodded happily, sincerely grateful but at the back of my mind, that wasn’t satisfying enough, because I couldn’t help but think.
What if he wasn’t around or what if we encountered someone even he had to bend his head to?
I couldn’t help but think about it with a sense of need.
I wanted to be strong for myself too.
I wanted to be okay for myself, enough to stand up for myself but I couldn’t do that by relying fully on him.
After all, I’ve suffered all by myself all these years.
Nonetheless, I appreciated it and felt excited for whatever confrontations I might face today.
“I’ve been meaning to ask,” Cain said as we took a turning into the street our school was in.
“Yes?” I asked.
“This might be sensitive for you, are you in the right place to talk about it? Or we can discuss it when we get home later?” he asked.
I furrowed my eyebrow at his seriousness.
What is the thing that had him so concerned?
“Nah, I’m good,” I answered lightheartedly when nothing came to mind.
“Okay, so you know how you’ve been passing out a lot during workouts?” He asked and I nodded, feeling anger bubble inside me as I wished I had left teeth marks on his dick for all the trauma he made me go through in that gym room.
“Wasn’t it all your fault?” I asked.
“Well partially,” he admitted surprisingly, “but I was also very concerned, because that was not normal. I had studied under the best doctor of the pack to know something wasn’t right, but I couldn’t place it so I invited him over to check up on you,” he said.
“Okay cool, when is he coming?” I asked, feeling myself forgive him.
Cain was indeed a genius amongst his peers when it came to science. Winning competitions on that topic and it was clear to everyone that he wanted to be a doctor rather than the future Alpha.
His competitive spirit in that aspect was nothing compared to Terri’s and Tyler’s.
“I already invited him. Yesterday, he checked up on you,” he said.
“What do you mean?” I drawled.
I shot my face to glare at him. “Didn’t you say you don’t like having people in your home and I’m the first?”
“Yes, that’s right and the pack doctor is the second. I don’t know if you remember him, but he was the one who treated you after you passed out on the day of the mating ceremony.”
“Yes, but are you saying he checked me out when I was asleep?”
“Hey, not like that. He didn’t exactly check you out, he just checked up on you and I was there. I promise it was just a checkup because I was really worried.” He said.
“So you mean you watched while he checked your girlfriend—mate out? Cain!” I screamed and he had to park his car at the side of the road to start apologizing.
“I’m sorry. I was just really worried and he was busy so he couldn’t wait for you to wake up. It skipped my mind during today’s workouts since we had to wake up so early, but I…” he was gasping and explaining when I burst out laughing.
His face went from despair to shock to surprise to amusement, flicking from one emotion to the other.
“You should see your face,” I heaved my laughter between sobs as I pointed at his face.
“What’s going on?” he asked.
“Gina already told me about it. But I was waiting for you to mention it in case I was overthinking things.” I said.
He let out a relaxed breath as his shoulders slouched to the side.
“I was really scared. I thought you were mad at me,” he said.
“No, no. I wasn’t,” I reached out to ruffle his hair. “You look so much like a golden retriever right now,” I patted his hair and his cheeks reddened with a blush like he was wagging his tail.
“I…” he paused clearly unrecovered from the trauma I’d just put him through.
He pouted and I had to pull him in a hug and rub his back before he could finally.
“My boy— Cain is so cute,” I said and placed a kiss on his forehead.
“Say it completely,” he said.
“What do you mean?”
“I’m your boyfriend, so say it. Why do you keep pausing between sentences?” My cheeks blushed hardly as he said that.
“What are you saying?” I patted his shoulder and he leaned in for a kiss.
“I said you are my girlfriend and I’m your boyfriend. What’s the big deal? Let the whole world know,” he said and I found myself hiding to giggle.
“So what did the doctor say? Gina kept going in and out of consciousness so she couldn’t tell me the full details.”
“Well, that’s what I’m getting to, but before I ask you that, have you ever felt suicidal or did you ever actively try to take your life?”
“That’s so sudden?” I drew back at the question and in that moment pondered it.
I only ever wanted to die after my mom’s death, but every time I remembered my suspicions about her not dying naturally and every time I remembered how she had made me promise that I would make the best out of my life without her in it, I felt strengthened.
It’s how I’ve managed to endure all hell in these past years of living with my stepmom and her daughter.
“No, I would never do that,” I replied after some minutes.
“Are you sure?” he asked and I nodded.
“Hundred percent. Why?”
“Well the doctor, who is also my personal coach when it comes to all things medicine, told me some things and I fully trust and believe him which is why I’m asking you. You know I care about you, right?” he asked and I nodded, feeling him rub my fingers in comfort.
Except I wasn’t certain if he was trying to comfort himself or me.
“It’s okay, tell me what he said,” noticing his own anxiousness, I decided I had to stay as calm as I could.
“Well he said you had been exposed to some sort of poisoning, in little amounts and for a long period of time. His estimate is one year, so maybe you were unintentionally exposed to something that harmed you without knowing? Maybe an allergy reaction that only reacts this way? You didn’t do it intentionally right? You’re my mate and even though I haven’t marked you, you still mean a lot to me,” he was panicking.
Full-blown panic as his eyes darted all over my body in search of answers to his sporadic questions.
“Relax Cain. I would never try to hurt myself,” I kissed the back of his palms in surprise, “but there might be someone who tried to hurt me in the first place,” I confessed my guess.
“What? Why would anyone try to hurt my mate?! I would make sure to show them hell after investigating this matter! Tell me, do you have any suspicions?” he asked.
I raised my head and looked at the school gate then raised my index finger to point at it.
“What are you pointing at?” he asked and turned his head in the direction I was showing.
Celine and two of her friends were talking animatedly.
In that expression, I saw something I’d always doubted, but was now out in the clear.
I meant nothing to them.
She didn’t look any bit distressed at the fact that I hadn’t come home, called home or even gone to school and according to Cain after I asked him, he said there was no missing person’s report about me yet!
Of course, my darling stepmom and stepsis would be happier if I went missing and died somewhere.
But the fact that they couldn’t even bother to fake the pain hurt me harder than I thought it would.
“Oh my goodness, they are about to lock the gate!” Cain said as he keyed the car to a start, “thanks for the heads up, or else we would have been scolded for late coming aside the fact that we skipped all of school last week,” he said as we drove in.
Of course he had missed what I was pointing at exactly.
I chuckled.
After all, only Terri knew about who my family truly were.
“It might have been unintentional poisoning. In fact, Doctor Dan was convinced that the reason behind your sudden and excessive weight gain might not be something poisonous, just an allergen you are constantly exposed to. However, it had affected your health as well and he would need to run some more tests to start treatment.”
“Is that okay with you?” Cain asked and I nodded.
“Hmm, thank you,” I smiled back as he got out of the car and jogged to my side to open the door for me.
Terri never did that.
Receiving princess treatment for the first time immediately cheered me up and I didn’t realize there was even a crowd staring until we were in front of my classroom.
“You can go in now, I’ll go grab your bag,” Cain squeezed my hand with encouragement as my eyes scanned the classroom.
Everyone was staring, however, I remained frozen in one spot for another reason.
My eyes remained glued to my seat and my heart thudded with a flashback.
Would they still dare to replace my chair even today? I found myself wondering, but relaxed again when Cain placed a kiss on my lips in front of everyone.
It was light and feathery but it meant everything to me.
With the softness in my heart, I took the first step into the classroom. Still silent because no one dared to offend him.
My hand dragged at my skirt and I wondered if anyone ever noticed that I’d actually lost weight. However, I threw the worry at the back of my mind.
They definitely didn’t care enough for that.
Besides, I was more worried about my chair. I checked it all around, rested slightly on it to ensure it was all good before sitting.
I took out my book and pen to get ready for class, and suddenly Gina became alert, like someone with bad intentions was staring.
The chair creaked...
