Zia’s POV

“What happened?” I asked again.

Based on his reaction, things might have gotten dramatic while I was passed out.

“Did you always have a wolf?” he asked suddenly, coming to a sharp stop. The pitter-patter of the rain ceased as well, leaving everything in a thick, heavy silence.

Everything but my head and heart. My ears thumped with the sound of my heartbeat, and my mind spun with the worst-case scenarios.

“Yes. A white wolf. Her name is Gina, and…” I didn’t care that this was a secret I hadn’t even told Terri, despite our three years together. I spilled every detail like I was filing a police report, even recounting the incident from tonight in case Cain considered dropping me home.

“You really can’t stay out of trouble, can you?” He pinched the bridge of his nose, not in anger, but with a sigh of helplessness.

He went on to explain that the borders had been breached recently, though whether things would escalate or die down was yet to be seen. For now, the situation was unstable.

Unstable. That word reminded me of how I’d felt before passing out—trapped in that nightmare.

That’s right.

My eyes lit up at the memory. It had felt like I was trapped in a painful dream where I couldn’t move. Almost like a recall, but not quite. At least, not one I could remember.

Yet in that dream, I could feel my mother’s presence… and there were faces I didn’t even recognize.

Plus, Gina had been absent. It felt like an entirely different life.

“Do you know how worried I was when I realized it was you?” he asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.

“I’m sorry,” I muttered, lowering my head, hissing from the pain running from my shoulder down to my side.

“So am I,” he said, turning to face me with his arm resting on the headrest of the car seat.

“You seemed to have passed out while shifting,” he said, making me frown.

Shifting? But I didn’t feel any pain…

“But something was weird,” he continued. “You started shifting from your head, but it stopped at your neck.”

I remembered how painful shifting had been at my mom’s funeral, forcing my body to change from head to toe.

“What’s so strange about that?” I asked warily.

“Well, normal werewolves shift from the bottom up—or at least from limbs to other body parts. I initially thought you were dead. I was about to leave after confirming there was no dent on my car,” he said flatly, “but then your silver wolf whimpered, asking me to take you away from there. That’s when I noticed it was you.”

“Oh. Thanks,” I muttered under my breath, trying to reach Gina—to no avail.

“It wasn’t easy getting you into the car, but I tried,” he added.

Could my third mate be any more tactless?

At least that explained the pain on the side of my body. He must have dragged me along the road—whereas Tyler would have lifted me without breaking a sweat.

I frowned at his wording, uncomfortable with how casually he’d referred to my size—as if that alone was what identified me.

If there was one thing I didn’t like about Cain, it was his bluntness. Only he could comfortably tell his mate that he’d almost left her for dead—and still make it sound like he did her a favor.

That unease crept deeper because Cain had a toxic habit of calling in favors. Every time he did something good for me, he made sure I paid for it—typically on my knees.

And because he always found me in desperate situations, I rarely had a choice.

“You must have passed out mid-shift,” he repeated. “At first, I thought you were dead, but then your wolf asked me to take you somewhere else. She said you couldn’t go home tonight. So I’m taking you to my place.”

I hated the way that sounded—like he was doing me yet another favor. In the past two days alone, I’d grown to despise receiving anything from Cain. But I couldn’t ask him to drop me off in the middle of the rain, not in a place I didn’t know.

“How did you know it was me?” I asked instead, apprehensive. Everyone believed I didn’t have a wolf, yet he’d seen her—even Terri hadn’t.

“Well, the shifting started from your head. That’s strange. Werewolves don’t shift that way,” he said, turning to face me directly. “What are you?”

I chuckled softly. “Stop joking.”

But I couldn’t ignore the question. What was I? And why did Gina make that choice? Was that dream a nightmare—or a suppressed memory?

“Anyways, why were you outside?” he asked.

“Something happened at home,” I replied, turning to face the window while resting on my less painful side.

I knew I was big, but did he really have to drag me off the floor? Tyler would’ve carried me like I weighed nothing. Cain, on the other hand, always made me feel heavy.

“Your situation is unique,” he said after I summarized my night. “But I’m your mate, so I’ll help you. Especially with rogues loitering around. We’ve seen them, but they haven’t attacked yet, so we can’t take formal action.”

I remembered the shadow I’d seen when I left the house. The thought of getting attacked by a rogue chilled my bones. I was absolutely defenseless.

“Thank you,” I said, knowing he’d take that as an opening for a demand.

“It’s fine. I’ll let you stay at my place for as long as you want. I can’t risk anything bad happening to you—or your family bullying you. Not when I could keep you by my side… and enjoy as many blowjobs as possible,” he smirked, turning fully to face me. “Right?”

My heart had warmed up with gratitude until he said that.

“I can let you stay in my house for as long as you want, but you’ll have to give me what I want,” he added just as he parked the car. I looked up—we were home.

I needed shelter. And the worst he’d demand was a blowjob—I could get used to that.

“Okay,” I sighed, shivering as we got out of the car. His place was nice, but I was too scared to compliment it, just in case he added that to the bill.

“Could you help me with a dry towel? I’m soaked,” I asked, rubbing my arms for warmth as he unlocked the door.

“My car seat’s soaked too,” he replied flatly, “so you’ll have to give me a blowjob first.”

“A blowjob for a towel?” I asked, scowling. What would he ask for when I need the bed? I better volunteer to sleep on the floor.

“Yup,” he popped the ‘p,’ grabbed a blanket, and held it over my head. “The faster you make me cum, the faster you’ll get warm,” he added, closing the door behind us and spreading his legs.

“Fine,” I muttered, sinking to my knees, dragging his briefs down with me. His six inches sprang free.

“Fine,’ I siad and got on my knees , dragging his briefs with me and watching his 6 inch of flesh spring forth. The faster I make him spill his seeds, the sooner I can get a roof over my head. I rubbed my palms for warmth then tapped my cheeks.

“Let’s do this.”
