30. Zia's POV - who gets the last word out
Zia's POV

“The triplet alphas, First alpha Tyler, Second Alpha Terri and Third Alpha Cain,” I confessed.

“No! You are lying! Alpha Terri is definitely not your mate. What would he want with someone like you?” Both myself and her daughter looked at her in astonishment, trying to understand why the hell she looked particularly concerned and on edge about the revelation with regards to Terri in particular.

Seeing how it personally affected her made me sneer.

You think you're the only one who can hurt me?

Dream on.

Gina cheered as I continued.

I couldn’t hit them back, but my sharp mouth could.

“I know he said that he was just helping me after seeing me sick at the Mating Ceremony,” I acted coyly, hating the act, but using the sting from her daughter’s slap as fuel to continue.

“But the truth is that he and his brothers had gone a little too hard and couldn’t recover at once, so he felt guilty about it and came home to take care of me!”

“Shut the hell up!” she stood to her feet, staggered, then swung her palm across my face.

On the same spot her daughter had hit.

This time I was prepared for a scenario like this.

However, my scenario had nothing to do with my speed.

The slap hurt twice as much and the sound coincided with another rumble of thunder outside.

Even Celine gasped from the cruelty and rigor with which her mother used it. Where was the enmity from?

But did it even matter?

“Get the hell out of here. You will not sleep in this house for two weeks. I don’t care if you fall into the hands of rogues. In fact, it would be better to have you torn into pieces by rogue wolves and dark witches before your father comes. That way we will have a happy family without a hindrance from his past.” She was mumbling to herself as she paced to and fro two steps on either side in front of me.

Her earlier slap had knocked me to the couch.

I hissed and tried to nurse it. It’ll hurt for a while, I’m sorry, Gina apologized.

It’s fine, I had this one coming, I replied her.

Gina had always felt guilty not to be able to perform like every other wolf, like doing the most mundane tasks of a werewolf which was to show her wolf form. But I never hated her for it, because I could feel her pain.

Most times it felt like there was a restraint, like a seal stopping her and the times we forced it had ended up with us having to deal with way worse injuries from the backlash.

“Are you deaf?! I said get out!” Her harshness brought me out of my thoughts, irritating Gina more, but she couldn’t express herself fully as she had to concentrate all her strength on healing the sting from the two consecutive slaps before they bruised.

Now it was just me.

“No. I will not leave. This is my house too.” That was just the least reason. But most especially, it was raining cats and dogs outside. I wasn’t about to lose my life in—

“And who do you think has the higher authority here? You don’t have a choice whether this house belongs to your ancestors or not,” Celine’s mom said with a sneer.

“You are despicable!” I spat out.

“But you can make this easier on yourself if you reject him.” Celine seemed to gloat on the surface, but her desperation did not escape my eyes.

And I would be damned if I let this chance go by without making her pay in the way that I can.

“I would if I could,” I crossed my own arms around my chest and it suddenly made sense why all my bullies always looked like this.

The feeling of looking down on someone you hate is so gratifying I have the urge to celebrate.

Tyler would be proud.

“Okay so what are you waiting for? Call them now,” her mother’s pacing paused as she said.

Again this looked like another scheme only I was unaware of. Why was my stepmother so worried about the fact that the second alpha was my mate?

Question for another day.

Right now, I needed to taunt these people with all I had, even if it’d be the last thing I do.

“I couldn’t get my phone from school because of the incident at the car park,” I paused in time to notice the wince on her face.

Surely that must have been at the memory of Cain standing up for me.

I looked down at my feet to hide my smirk.

“And so? Here,” she stretched out her phone, “you can use mine.” The need in her voice made me feel like I had the upper hand.

“Take it,” she pushed the phone into my chest when on a normal day, she would have barked her lungs at me for even as much as glancing at it.

I chuckled.

“But see, what if I ask him? Will he agree? After all, he takes good care of me, so he must love me, no?” Her hands dropped to her side as she stared at this new part of me.

Need I mention that not once since we moved here did I stand up against them like this.

Arguments maybe, but I always gave in before it escalated into anything big.

Thinking back, I should have just gone all the way. What’s the worst thing they can do?

“My point is, breaking the mate bond doesn’t mean he’ll come running after you. So is there really need to go through all this stress?” I explained further when the black lines on her forehead didn’t ease up.

My stepsister could be really slow at times.

“You bitch!” She spat out the only curse word she could muster. When I didn’t budge she turned to her mom who seemed to have been in her own thoughts and started to whine.

“Mommy, I can’t live with someone like this. You have to make her pay. Take away her shoe—” she started but paused as her eyes raked me up and down and she realized I had nothing to lose.

They already took it all.

“You are just like your mother,” her mom suddenly said out of the daze as her eyes looked down on me.

“What do you mean?”

“You go around snatching people’s men all in the name of mate. Elias was mine.” That’s my dad’s name.

“We were in love, deeply in love until she came and took everything away, claiming they were mates and blinding him with her witch’s spell. Husband snatching runs in your blood,” her mom continued to spout grievances that she’d bottled up all this while.

But if she mentioned it in this situation, then it would mean the cases were similar.

Like history repeating itself.

And that meant mom and Celine’s mom knew each other way before we were birthed. Then why did she move in like she was a new affair three years ago?

Why did they never say anything? Her image in my mind from when she moved in with Celine and how it coincided iwth my moms strange sickness. My eyes turned blood read and i felt the anger of both myself and Gina.

“Is that why you killed her?” My lower eyelids were doing the powerful job of holding back my tears.

Every thought of my mother brought me to tears because it reminded me of the time we didn’t get to spend together.

“What?” she snapped her head with a crack. Her broken sentence invoked more horror, “Did you just say that to me?”

“I asked if that was why you killed my mother. Because you were jealous my dad chose her over you?” I bet my eyes looked just as horrifying as she staggered backwards.

“You were the one who killed your mother, take it or leave it. And don’t you dare accuse me of such ridiculous things again in the future.”

Ohh? My eyes were spitting just as much hate as the number of slaps I had received from both daughter and mother this evening.

I glanced around for anything I could hold onto but found nothing. The pitter patter of the rain on the roof was still just as heavy but I would be damned if I remained in this room with such desperate blood thirsty people.

“Yes, and if you’re so suspicious, aren’t you scared that I would kill you too?”

My heart paused. I could end up just like my mother. The thought of getting buried under a heavy rain chille dme to ythe bones, y eyes tsarte dto dilate until I remembered I wasn't alone.

“With the triplet alphas as my backing?” I scoffed. “Try it if you dare,” my eyes scanned the both of them widened to evoke their deepest fears.

“But you wouldn’t be having the chance this night anyways. Cause I can’t spend the night under the same roof with a pair as desperate as you. I would rather sleep in the dumpsters,” I spat.

“Mom,” Celine shook as she glanced at the windows outside then back at her mother who looked at me with scorn, daring me to make a move.

Hmmph.

I turned around and without hesitation, opened the door.

Lightning flashed right at that moment and the shadow of an image seemed to appear at a distance.

This was the first time I’d stood up for myself, and as much as I’d said hurtful things to them, they’d also hurt me, both physically and psychologically.

I would break down sooner than later, but I’d be damned if I did that in front of them.

“Do you dare to take that step? If you go upstairs now, I’ll let you off with a light punishment,” Celine’s mother called back.

“Like I said,” I turned my head. “I would rather sleep in the dumpster.”

With that I stepped into the rain, getting blinded and soaked immediately. My body chilled formmy head to my toes and even my blood seemed to had lost some of its warmth, but I trudged on, using the satisfaction as fuel to keep going.

Gina wouldn’t like this.
