“Celine, I can explain… It’s not what you think.”
“Didn’tyou say that
When I finally managed to sit up and gather my strength, I realised that not one bit of Cain’s attention was on me.
“Cain, what’s going on?” I decided to be bold, afterall, he was my mate.
And I was ahundred percent sure he didn’r have sucha special relationship with her.
“Zia, why dn’t you leave for now, we can talk about what you wanted to tell me later,” he said, but it was Celine who turned her back to him instead.
“Celine, please wait, I can explain.”
“Explain what? I sae it clearly with my two eyes… after all that you said,” she looked so weak and vulnerable in front of him, but when our eyes met, she smirked.
She actually smirked.
In the history of us being family, ever since my dad brought her and her mom to live with us because she was his illegitimate daughter, she had always given me that look.
Always. Whenever she wanted to snatch something that was mine.
She tried this with my mom’s affectoion too but when my mom didn’t try to be bias, I lost her. And nwo this…
She had to know he was my mate for her to act like this… But how?
Did Cain tell her?
“Zia called me over becse she wanted to talk to me about something, but then things escalated, but I promise it’s not what it lookslike,” he said still trying to please her.
“Are you sure?” She asked as she looked at him witha slight trace of weariness.
But I knew for a fact that every time she showed vulnerability or weakness,it was just a ploy.
An act thought by her mother to get what she wanted.
A pity mine only thought me to be honest aand stand for what’s right, whch is exactly what I would do.
“Yes,” I am ery sure,” he said, nodding vigorously.
“Then kiss me.”
I knew from experience that I couldn’t win Celine when it came to bickering, so the only tithing I could do was not hide my feelings.
“Ahh!” I cried out with my eys closed. This was because I wouldn’t be able to bear it if he actually ignored me nd kissed her right here.
“Zia, what’s wrong?” Cain immediately dropped to his knees by my side and asked.
“My leg, when you made e kneel, I think I brake my knees or something and it wouldn’t heal. yOu knw m,y wolf—” I intentionally didn’t complete te sentence because it was something everyone knew.
That my wolf was weak.
“Wait, your wound isn’t healin. What should we do? Im so sorry fr being rough with you,” He said as he wiped my tears even though tears had started t stream down his face.
In the end e was still the innocent Cain everyone knew him to be, which would explain how celine was able to easily wrap hima rund her fingers.
I almost smiled as he ran to pick up a cotten wool.
“Oh Celine, you said you had healing powers, is there a way to heal her?” Can suddenly asked, shocking her out of the evil grmace on her face.
She looked costipated with how quickly she needed tos witch from a deep dark frown unto a forced smile.
“I’ll take a look,” she said as she came and knelt down beside me, the closer she came, the more scared I became even though she wasn’t doing anything, nd since I was already putting on an act, I decided to do it all the way.
“Don’t come close,” I said in between heavy sobs. Crying has always come easy for me, thanks to the fact that I always cried to bed.
“Zia, let her check your wound,” Cain urged ad she smirked., but fr the first time, I was determined to win against her.
“I oly want you to help me. Even the Pack’s greatest doctor already told me there’s nothing that ca be done. Are yous aying that her healing powerscan be stronger than hat of the man who brought the alpha back to life after that great war?” I asked and looked at Celine whose face had frozen again.
“Okay, Celine, Don’r worry, I’ll just help hertreat the wound,” he said as he continued to rummage for everything else.
It was also at this moment that I finally understood why she would always give me an evil smimle everytim she sucessfully snatched something from me.
Because I myself coldn’t resist the urge to smile at her, and i did.
As my lips curved in a smile, I felt a certain sothness from Gina. She also agreed with this.
Before I knew it, my smile had reached y eyes and I was already at the verge of laughing out when she leaned in.
I didn’t reaksied how closer she had gotten until her chilling words reached my ear, “I promise you will regret this,” she whispered directy into my ear and got up o her feet in one swift move.
However, how could this still be a win if she had the last words.
“What wll I regret?” I started to cry again.
I had regretted every sleep, every food, every air that I’d taken in ever since I met her. What more was tehre to regret?
I also knew that this wn wouldn’t go unpunished, as I could tell that she was a very sore loser now that she hada backing and I didn’t.
That’s why I needed to savour this win until there was nothing more.
“Celine, did yuou say something to her? Why does she look so scared? Why is she crying?”Cain asked as he kkne;t by my side ad helped me sit up so my back could rest on the bed frame.
“N..nothing,” Celine stuttered, clearly unexpecting that e wuld cntinue to take my side.
I was also srprsed seeing how Tyler took Joyce’s side after everything we’ve been through. But this woirked for me.Can would stand by the weaker person.
I just needed to know how to go lower than Celine.
“I didn’t do anythin, I swear,” Celine tried her best to sound innocent and unknowingly, wr rather, out fo habit, her voice tsarted to sound really loud even though she was just benign defensive.
Tears were sill streaming down my face when I sai withmy fanted =st of voice, in between sniffles, “It’s true, she didn’t do anything,’ only to end my sentence with a screech as I held unto my knee that was somehow bleeding heavier than normal.
“I didn’t dothat I swear,” Celine’s eyes were wide in surprise as she stepped away.
Even I surprised this time.
“Gina, is thatyou?” i asked my wolf in my head and she laughed.
She’s had so muh strength of recent and I couldn’t help but be happy to have a friend after all this while of going through it all by myself.
“Get out!” Cain shouted.
“Wat? I swear I didn…”
Celine looked liekshe was at the verge of tears herself.
I had the strong urge to ask hwo she felt having a taste of her own poison, but Can had already sent her out.
“Get out of here. Ate you trying to say thatI’m blind? Did you have to hurt her so bad just because… just leave…” I wished he’d completed his sentence, because i’d sytretched my ears to a length jkust to hear what eh was syain to her outside teh door.
Celine sobbed and begged but had no choice but tpo leav because he was truly angry.
