32. Accidental Discovery.

"I have to get to the hospital, I have to see her." I cried and Jenny gathered me into his arms.
"It's alright, she'll be fine." She consoled me. "I'm coming with you."
"Why would someone want to attack her? She's never done anything wrong to anyone and she has no money, she's just a senior nurse in the hospital who dedicates her time to save lives."
"It's alright, questioning it won't make things better, do you want to make a call first or—"
"Please let's get to the hospital," I said and shoved my legs into a pair of Crocs. "I'll call my father from the hospital."
"Alright."
All through the ride to the hospital, I was fidgeting worriedly, I didn't know the extent of her injuries and how much danger she was in.
My heart was beating loudly in my chest and tears poured down my face unchecked. I was glad that Jen had offered to accompany me because I could barely keep it together.

"Where's my mother, she works here, she was brought here, she was attacked, she's a nurse, tall, Mexican, black hair, I got a call, she's in the ER, I need to, I have t—"
"Calm down, Emily, I've got this." Jenny interrupted me and then began talking to the nurse who did not seem to get a single thing I had said.
I stood nervously beside Jenny, the nurse was checking something on her computer and she was asking Jenny some questions. They weren't paying attention to me so when I got the chance, I slipped away from there.
It wasn't like I didn't know where the ER was, when I was a child my mother used to bring me with her to work during the weekends and after school so I knew my way around the hospital.
I tried to walk slowly so no one would suspect anything but I couldn't stop my legs from hurrying along. Before I reached the ER, I passed a hallway with three turns and in one of those turns, I saw Vicky Owens coming out of a doctor's office.
I didn't pay much attention to her since my mother was on my mind and so I walked off to the ER.
When I got there, I watched through the large glass window as my mother lay unmoving on the bed with about four or five doctors and nurses around her.
"Mother, please, if you can hear me, please, you have to be strong, you have to fight and you have to come back to us." I placed my head on the window and whispered as tears streamed down my face.
"Mother," I screamed and hit the window with my fists as the monitor began to beep. I watched as the doctors and nurses moved quickly to try and revive her.
"Emily, you should not be here." Jenny appeared behind me and began pulling me away from the ER.
"Mother, mother, please come back," I screamed as I tried to free myself from her grip but she was too strong for me. "Leave me alone, Jenny, let me go." I kicked and screamed as she pulled me out of the ER and slammed the door shut.
"You shouldn't be in there, Emily." Marisa, my mother's colleague, rushed to help Jen hold me.
"Marisa, it's my mother, what's going on with my mother?" I held onto her as I asked, crying hysterically.
"She'll be fine, her car was hit by another vehicle, but she'll be fine, they're currently operating on her, she'll be fine, I know she'll pull through." Marisa held me in her arms and cried with me.
"No, that's not true, I saw her, I saw her in there, she doesn't look good, the monitor, I heard it, it was beeping, something went wrong, something went wrong, Marisa, I heard it, help me please, go in there and save my mother, please." I pleaded with her and nudged her towards the emergency room.
"Alright, go with your friend to the reception and I'll check on her, I promise I'll come back with some news." She said and I calmed down a bit.
"You promise, you'll go in there." I wiped my face and looked her in the eye.
"Yes, I'll go in, now go with your friend." She said and Jenny pulled me away.
"Come back soon," I yelled as Jenny pulled me away.
When we got back to the reception, Jenny went to get me some water to drink and after she left, I saw Vicky Owens again, she was holding on to a white envelope and she looked distraught as she rushed out of the hospital and that was when I recollected the department I had seen her in.
She was coming out of the OB-GYN department and she was holding onto a white envelope and she looked distraught, that could only mean that Vicky Owens, Chandler's high resident sweetheart, our school's resident beauty and cheerleader captain was preg—
"Emily, Marisa is here." Jenny nudged me and gave me a cup of water.
"Thanks." I smiled at her and stood up immediately when I saw Marisa coming back. "How is she?" I asked immediately.
"She's fine." She replied immediately, setting me at ease. "The anesthesia wore off mid-surgery and she woke up but she's been put back under and everything is fine." She added, like my mother was not currently fighting for her life.
"Alright, thanks, that's a relief." I sighed and hugged her. "I was so worried, I haven't called my father, I'll just use the hospital phone to call him."
"No." Marisa held my hand, stopping me from moving.
"What's wrong?" I asked her and she looked at me and then Jen. "She's good, please tell me, what is wrong?"
"When your mother was brought in, she was still conscious and she asked us not to inform your father, in fact, she was very insistent that we don't, she asked us to inform you but not your father."
