A New Day Has Come

I sat in the chair directly across from his desk. For some reason I started to feel cold, it seemed like the air conditioner in this room was set at a temperature that was too low until it felt like I was in the north pole.

"Oh my, it's so cold so early! How can this guy stand it? Is he a polar bear?" I thought. Still try to act as naturally and elegantly as possible to give a good first impression.

"Ehehehehe..." I laughed out loud again. Seriously, I don't know why this stupid habit won't go away.

This man named Willian looked confused and maybe he thought there was something wrong with me. I just hope his attitude isn't as bad as the arrogant and sharp-mouthed Jacob.

"I'm William Evans, Manager at this company. Actually, I'm not dealing with prospective new employees because that's the job of an HRD, but because this is a special request from the person who asked you to come here. So, I think I've been given a special mandate. You can Tell me what your full name is, Miss?”

"I'm Jennifer Everdeen, sir! But I'm usually called Jenni or Jennifer!"

"Okay, Miss Jenni! Have you ever worked for a company before? Maybe you could tell me some of the work experience you've had?" asked this man.

Honestly, I'm the most anxious when I have to answer questions like this. Work experience, you say? I'm not really sure that I've ever worked for somewhere like this company. No, obviously I've never worked for a big company like this. Never mind big companies, I only lasted the longest in one place for six months, and that was at the crepes shop run by my father and mother.

After that, I almost never actually worked. Since graduating from high school nine years ago, I have only been labeled as a thug and thief in the city where I live. With such a bad reputation it was impossible to get a job.

"I-I worked at a family-owned crepes shop for several years since graduating high school. So I have absolutely no experience working in a company this big." I said with a little spice of lies that I was forced to insert into my statement.

"Crepes shop? Are you the one who makes the crepes?" asked this man. He smiled and his expression looked friendly. For some reason, I feel like her personality is different from Jacob's personality. This man wasn't pretending to be friendly or anything. He is sincere, humble and gentle.

"No, my father cooked it! I only helped to serve the customers!"

"Okay, I understand! Actually I don't know what position to put you in, because you don't have experience working in a company before. So, maybe I will put you in the reception area for the next few weeks while looking for the right position for you. So, May I ask something, Miss Jenni?"

"Agh... y-yes? O-of course!"

"Jacob and I have been friends since childhood, so you could say I know him very well. So far he has never asked me to do this before and he has also never been seen close to a woman. Therefore, I want to know how you two know each other?" William asked.

I shouldn't have been surprised to hear this question considering that it was Jacob who asked me to meet this man and ask for a job. But if he asks me how we know each other? I wasn't sure I could tell him that I was a homeless person who was picked up and allowed to share an apartment with his cocky friend.

"We don't really know each other, I mean we're just friends. Yes, we are friends! Hahaha..." I answered him with an awkward laugh. Although I'm not sure that Jacob considers me a friend.

"Friend?" He asked with a look that showed suspicion as if he knew I was lying.

"I'm dead, why does he look so suspicious? Could it be that Jacob has already told him the truth? Damn, what if he's actually testing my honesty and suitability to work here? It could be serious if he finds out I'm lying!" I thought. I'm very restless now. My habit of lying and covering up lies has become so deep-rooted that it has penetrated every aspect of my life, making it difficult for me to tell the truth.

However, seeing me as if I was thinking hard made this man couldn't help but laugh.

"It's okay, if it's a secret you don't want to tell, you don't need to tell me. Besides I'm happy if I can help. Alright, you can work from tomorrow if you don't mind!"

"S-sure, I can work anytime!"

"Thank goodness! Then you can come before eight in the morning. After that I will tell you about your job as a receptionist!"

"Yes, sir! I will come on time. Then, thank you very much!"
