54: Why do you hate me?

There was grave silence in the room as Elena was being checked on by the pack's doctor, nothing seem right to me after what I did to her.

My worried feet pace around the room impatiently as my fingertips clapped on each other repeatedly, feeling a sudden sense of anger rising within me.

"How is she doing doc.?" I rapped the sudden question to the doctor who ignored me in other to focus more on his patient.

I got the message and continued my pacing until the door soon burst open, Seth walked in hurriedly with his eyes fixed on the bed.

"Just learnt that she was attacked by her help, gosh..this isn't the first time it's happening?" Seth mentioned knowingly, chuckling like he had always wanted this to happen.

He looked over my shoulders to take a brief deep stare at Elena's emotionless face with her eyes closed.

I noticed Seth's face darkened with rage and there was a visible vein appearing on his forehead, panting slowly.

"Why did you do that to her, claim her ..what if she dies?!" His voice came out with great terror and much more concern that anyone would interpret as love.

His eyes widened as he breathe heavily, shaking alittle visibly as he looked at me from my head to down.

There was something going off at this point, Seth had never liked Elena but he shows much concern for her now.

"Do you like her Seth?" I asked calmly, raising my head up high with my nose high up in the air... waiting for his response.

His gaze went from me to Elena, ignoring the doctor that kept on with his work like neither Seth or I was present in the room with him and his patient, he tends to really love his work.

"What is too much that I did, claiming my mate?" I asked firmly, feeling irritated by his reactions.

Seth's silence only meant one thing, either he likes her now or he is hiding something from me.

There was a brief silence between us, as we exchanged gaze coldly...my questioning eyes with his demanding ones.

"Not exactly...but you should" he fired, looking blankly at me...his face darkening with more anger.

"Rex would have done same if I didn't, I'm not sure if I had drank too much of her blood or maybe her system isn't willing to accept my blood" I explained in a rush, placing a hand on my forehead with my reddish eyes getting watery.

My teeth tightened as I gnashed it together in anxiety of losing the only thing left fore aside the pack, I can't be sn Alpha without a chosen Luna.

I walked back to the bed's edge where I was standing, watching my dear Elena's face dreadfully.

"I'm not in position of an Alpha" he suddenly said coldly, his face clearing up alittle as he walked up to me with a dead stare fixed on me.

"Whah?" I sounded between my breath, frowning alittle at him with the image of him being jealous of me forming in my head.

"I'm sorry, I forget I don't have a say when the Alpha had spoken" he said sarcastically as left, still in rage and my eyes escorted him out of the door.

"Sir Derek, your Luna seem to be fine medically but she isn't responding to the medications" he stated bluntly, taking his equipments back into the box.

I blinked confusedly while my palm felt hot from sweat, thinking of s quick and possible way out of the mess created by me.

"The problem seem to be in her head" he added and packed his remaining item into the box neatly.

The temperature of the room seems to have changed for me and won't be accommodating me anymore, my unsettled hand closed tightly... forming a fist.

I hurried out of the room to ease myself of the distress that my impatience caused.

Seth was standing by a pillar in the long open walkway, his head bent over on his phone without moving his body an inch.

'Seth is definitely up to something this time , for sure he is' I thought sneaking up to him without tipping my toes to avoid drawing the attention of others to us.

My ready eyes went through the screen of his phone only to find out that he was playing his favorite blood shooters game.

I don't know why he seem addicted to this shit.

He turned around to meet my transfixed gaze at him, I was more and surprised than angry.

"Why did you leave?" I asked at once on seeing his usual face again, he flashed me a dried smile.

"I'm sorry...I overreacted, but she is human and you just want to make her Luna...like that" he complained looking away from me to above my shoulder, with a sorry look on his scared face.

Seth was kinda right in the aspect of Elena being a human either a violent history, nothing different from that was all Seth knew her to be.

"I will protect her and help her find herself until oneday" I said promisingly with a faint smile that I forced out on my face.

'Grrghll!" There was a loud growl from behind us where we talked and I turned around swiftly to find Rex's angry sweaty face.

Seth lunged, a desperate roar tearing from his throat, but Rex was too fast, too strong. One blow, a bone-jarring impact, sent Seth sprawling, unconscious. Rex didn't even pause, his eyes burning with primal fury.

He reached them, a snarl splitting his face. His claws, wickedly sharp, raked across my chest, tearing through my shirt. The searing pain was intense, a burning brand marking me as his prey.

"Why did you claim her?!" His voice thundered, his eyes filled with rage but still in its usually color, I guess he wasn't dead angry afterall.

My silence seemed to be eating him up from the inside, so I smirked in addition.

A guttural growl, a sound of pure, untamed rage, ripped from Rex's throat. He launched himself onto me, his weight crushing, his claws a whirlwind of destruction, tearing and shredding relentlessly. Exhaustion warred with terror as I struggled beneath him.

The chilling prophecy flashed through my mind—the vision of Rex, my killer. Fear, cold and sharp, pierced me to the bone.

But even in the face of death, one thought burned brighter than all others: Elena, the pack… and the fight. I would fight with every ounce of my strength, even against impossible odds, to claim what was mine.

Rex was in half form, he had partially shifted to wolf just like the other day in the woods.

I struggled to roll myself over and had chance to be on him as I rained punches over his face, red from anger.

Rex seems to be really working out lately as he sent heavy punches on my face and rib sides very quickly.

My hand gripped his hair as I held tight to it and punched the living hell out of him.

We both panted heavily, but I seem to be sounding louder and scared as I spat out blood each time I was opportuned to roll over him.

I have seen Rex always angry since the day he was sent out of the royal hold but he seems more angry today, with maybe all his bad memory of me at once in his head today.

We rolled over each other on the floor as we struggled to be on top each other to have a upper hand, Rex's hand was also harder than ever.

I feared of loosing in front of my people and not now that I'm close to having what I have always wanted.

He held me tight on the floor, pinned to the ground as dark anger flashed through his eyes to mine.

"If you want to kill me for claiming her, then I should kill you for sleeping with her isn't it?" I uttered, my voice croaked while I watched his bitter face over me.

"I didn't force her if you would like to know, Derek and I didn't hurt her either" he snapped back, sounding more protective of her.

"She might die because of what you've done!" he roared, the fury in his voice edged with a deeper, more agonizing worry.

"I'd rather see her die than let you have her!" I spat, the defiance a thin veil over my own rising fear. His grip, surprisingly, faltered, loosening its hold.

A stunned silence descended, broken only by Rex's burning gaze. But even his unwavering focus flickered, momentarily distracted by the horrifying image of Elena's death.

Seizing the opportunity, I wrenched free, his weakening hold offering little resistance. His usually vibrant ocean eyes were now bloodshot, brimming with a pain and anger I'd never seen in him. He was broken, devastated.

"Why do you hate me so much?" he rasped, his voice thick with unshed tears. The question hung in the air, a stark contrast to his usual stoicism.

"Because you get everything you want, so easily!" I screamed, the words a raw, bitter outburst that cut through the stunned silence. The sharp crack of bones snapping back into place punctuated my rage. "You're pathetic, and yet they still love you! It's a disgrace, a sham that you want to lead!"

The red returned to his face, a furious tide washing over him. He charged, a terrifying blur of motion, intent this time on ending me.

"You wouldn't want to kill me in front of the very people you've always dreamed of leading," I said, my voice cutting through the raw emotion. "Or the people you might one day lead." The reminder of his ambitions, his carefully constructed image, was a cold, hard weapon.

The rage draining from Rex was palpable. He glanced around, his eyes scanning the edges of the clearing, a flicker of uncertainty replacing the burning fury. Was I playing him? He seemed to be checking.

With a sudden, almost violent shift, he reverted to his human form, the raw power receding, leaving behind only the simmering intensity of his glare. Unfinished business, that was what it was.

His cold gaze swept from me to the growing circle of onlookers, their faces a mixture of curiosity and apprehension. Then, with a curt nod, a silent dismissal, he turned and walked away.

'Yeah, that's what I thought'.
