Chapter 26 CHAPTER 26

Chapter 26 CHAPTER 26
MARCO

I sat on the exclusive armchair in my sitting room, watching as the chandeliers cast their warm glow across the entirety of my mansion. I gulped down the alcohol in my hand slowly as I watched Roberto.

A wide smile spread across his face as he got off the call. “It is done, boss. X has sent out the invite.”

My lips arched into a smile now.
“Good. I want everything perfectly executed. No mistakes.”

“Si, Capo,” he nodded. “I will make sure of that.”

Andrea thought he was wise and could get away with just anything. Not this time. He had just fallen into my trap… Now I would show him why he shouldn’t cross the Ultimate Mafia Boss.

Elisabetta walked into the room, her hairstyle in a simple yet beautiful updo, her dark hair sleekly smooth. But her green eyes were glowing maliciously as she pulled her phone close to her face, taking urgent steps to my side.

“Have you seen?” she asked, flashing her phone screen at me, the screen light too bright.

I already knew what might have gotten her so worked up, but I decided to read through the content she showed me.

“Vindeigo, that bastard—” she cursed, pulling her phone back. “I knew it was a bad idea placing him as head to oversee the affairs in Greece… Now he’s hosting an event in China, and he didn’t deem it fit to invite us.”

I stared at Betta as she paced the room, still talking. She didn’t even pause for a reaction from me or a single word.

“I even messaged his office for a product review, just in case they might have forgotten by mistake who placed them where they are today… But still... no invite.” She continued, flashing her phone in my face. I bet I had go blind if she flashed her phone at me one more time, I thought as I turned away.

“Why aren’t you saying anything, my love?” Her feet stamped against the marble floor. “You should have his arms cut off. Ruin the empire you built in his name… Then,” her lips curled into a wicked smile, “then,” her voice rose again, “we kill him.”

A small laugh ripped from my throat as I dropped the glass of whiskey I was holding. Betta’s face changed to obvious irritation as she pouted.

“Come on, love… I’m serious. That bastard has insulted us—YOU!” she emphasized. “And we need to teach him a lesson.”

“He’s following instructions, my cuore,” I smiled as I said it.

She pulled out a seat close to mine and took my glass of whiskey, downing it in one go. “Are you saying you are aware of this?” she asked carefully, as if not to misinterpret me.

“Yes,” I responded.

She exhaled sharply, breathing a sigh of relief as she leaned back into the chair, legs crossed, exposing a part of her thigh that the white dress she was wearing revealed.

“Relax, love. There’s nothing to worry about,” I spoke confidently. “You wouldn’t have heard of it if it wasn’t my shot. Mistakes like that don’t live to see the light of day twice.”

“I’m confused,” she admitted. “Why would you do that?”

I smiled, walking closer to her. “You will get to find out why, soon.” I pulled her in for a kiss, as I wrapped my arms around her waist, but she pushed me back.

I saw red as my jaw clenched, but I masked my feelings. “What’s wrong, love?”

“Why do I feel you aren’t letting me in on your plans anymore?” she asked, her eyes narrowed in suspicion. “Or don’t you trust me anymore?”

I sighed, returning to my seat. “I trust you, my love. I just… don’t want you getting your hands dirty anymore.”

“Am I complaining?” she asked, her voice sharp.

I stared at Betta for a while, wondering where her earlier passion and zeal had gone to. Elisabetta used to be obsessed with beauty and stuff, and that was how I was able to meet her and eventually—date her.

But after getting her involved in a few tasks, her favorite cosmetic was now a gun. She was now a simp for anything that had to do with blood, and damn bloody hell, she was good at what she does.

I snapped out of my reverie, seeing she was now awaiting a response.

“You don’t have to complain, darling. I don’t want you doing any of those things anymore…”

“Why don’t you go back to the beauty world? You could start up a show as a host. Or sell beauty products… Tell me anything you want, and I will do it.”

She walked towards me, stopping an inch away, staring at me dead in the eyes. “I left my past life seeing it no longer served me. I embraced my new life, developing a passion for it… All of a sudden, you want me to quit?”

Argh. Why was she making a fuss over a little matter? I wasn’t asking her to kill someone. Ah, she had like that instead.

“You're misinter—” I began.

“You asked what I want,” she said, cutting me off. “I need you not to ask or suggest anything of that nature to me again.”

“Betta… It’s for your own good.” I called after her disappearing figure, the hall echoing my words.

“I will be in my room,” her voice echoed back from the far end of the hall.

I angrily grabbed the bottle of whiskey, drowning myself straight from it. “How couldn’t she see I was doing what's best for her. To protect her?” I murmured to myself as I gulped some more.

“Capo,” Roberto came in after a few hours.

“A call for you." My feet were already losing their balance as I staggered, my vision doubling.

“Can’t you see I don’t want to be disturbed?” I bellowed, fueled by a barrage of alcohol.

“It’s Mr. Leo,” he said, flashing me his screen.

What was it with bright lights today? My eyes shut tight as I used my hand as a shield against it.

I hissed, falling into a chair. “What does he want this time?”

“He’s asking if his goods are ready.”

I snapped the table hard. “If it’s that easy… why doesn’t he get it done?”
