Chapter 884 Harm

Chapter 884 Harm

As Evan echoed Rita's words, he suddenly clamped his hand around her neck, his breath hot and dangerous against her ear. "Rita, say that again."

His grip tightened, cutting off her breath and making her face flush red. But she still stared him down, defiant. "What's wrong with what I said?"

Evan's voice was icy. "Nothing wrong?"

Rita struggled, but his hold was unbreakable. "Evan, if you don't want the truth, I can lie to make you happy, just like before."

Before she could finish, his grip tightened, making her feel like he might snap her neck any second. She opened her mouth, but no sound came out.

She didn't know how long it lasted, but it felt like forever before Evan suddenly let go.

He looked at her, his face dark and menacing. "Don't worry, I won't let you die. I'll just play with you slowly, make you wish you were dead."

The pain hit Rita again, intense and overwhelming.

She had no idea how long she'd been tortured or how she eventually passed out, but when she woke up, she was in a pitch-black room.

The darkness was so complete, she couldn't see her own hand in front of her face.

Rita had no clue where she was and tried to get out of bed to find a light or open the curtains.

But even the slightest movement brought back the excruciating pain, making it nearly impossible to get up.

She pushed through the pain and managed to get out of bed.

Since she couldn't see a thing, she had to feel her way around.

After a while, she still couldn't find a light switch or any windows.

A terrible feeling crept into her heart. She fumbled back to the bed, hoping to find her phone for some light. But her phone was gone too.

She was trapped in a pitch-black cage, cut off from any light and all contact with the outside world.

With no other choice, Rita lay back on the bed.

She didn't know how long she lay there before she heard a faint sound.

Rita immediately got up and saw a door that blended with the wall slowly open, letting light into the room. Her eyes hadn't adjusted, so she instinctively raised her hand to block the light.

When she slowly moved her hand away, she saw a woman with a blank expression standing at the door.

Rita, barefoot, rushed to the woman. "Where is this? Where's Evan?"

The woman handed Rita some food. "This is your lunch. From now on, I'll bring you your meals."

Rita shouted, "Where's Evan? Where is this? Who locked me up here?"

The woman didn't answer, just handed the tray to Rita again. "Eat or not?"

Rita said, "I'm asking you, where is this?"

The woman frowned impatiently and made a move to take the tray back. "If you don't eat, I'll take the food away."

"Unless you let me out, I won't eat a bite." As soon as she said that, Rita's stomach growled.

Before the woman could turn away, Rita took the tray.

Her body was her own. She had to take care of it.

No matter what, she needed to eat well and keep her strength up.

The woman looked at her with disdain and made a scornful sound.

Rita clutched the food container tightly and asked again before the door closed, "Where's Evan? Did he lock me up here?"

The woman didn't answer and left, closing the door behind her.

Luckily, a light was left on in the room, so Rita could see to eat the food the woman had brought.

The food was plentiful, but to Rita, it tasted bitter.

No matter how bitter, she had to eat. She wanted to survive.

There was a camera in the room. As soon as Rita finished eating, the door opened again, and the woman came in to collect the dishes.

Rita thought about sneaking out while the woman was distracted, but the woman's words stopped her.

The woman said coldly, "Even if you get out of here, you won't get far."

Rita stopped in her tracks and looked back at the expressionless woman. "I want to see Evan."

"He isn't someone you can see whenever you want," the woman said, then left with the dishes.

The light in the room went out again, plunging it back into darkness.

Rita lay back on the bed, not knowing how long she lay there before the woman brought food again.

This routine repeated every day. Rita didn't see daylight and had no electronic devices to keep track of time, so she counted the days by the number of meals the woman brought her.

One day, two days, three days, ten days, twenty days...

As the days passed, Rita's appetite worsened.

About a month later, she couldn't eat anything, vomiting whatever she tried to eat, and her hair started falling out in clumps.

There was no mirror in the room, so Rita didn't know what she looked like. She only knew her body couldn't hold on much longer.

So when the door opened again, she desperately rushed to the door, weakly screaming, "Let me out. I don't want to die in this dark cage."

"Want to die?" A cold male voice suddenly sounded above her.

Rita struggled to look up and saw it wasn't the woman who brought her food, but Evan.

Today, Evan looked nothing like the man Rita knew. His eyes terrified her.

He stood in front of her, looking down at her like a king at his slave. "Really want to die?"

Rita wanted to laugh, but tears streamed down her face. "Evan..."

Evan slowly squatted down and grabbed her chin. "After all this time, you still recognize me. Should I be happy?"

Rita wanted to push his hand away, but she had no strength left. She lay on the ground, looking up at him. "When I die, can you bury me in a sunny place?"

She curled up pitifully. "I'm afraid of the cold and the dark. I couldn't see the light when I was alive, and after I die..."

Before she could finish, Evan suddenly picked her up. "Rita, for those who deceive me, dying isn't that easy."

Rita said, "You're crazy!"

Evan replied, "You're not the first to think so."

Rita knew she shouldn't try to understand Evan with normal logic. He never played by the rules.

According to Dylan's analysis and her understanding of Evan, after finding out he had been tricked, Evan would likely call off the engagement.

But Evan didn't. Instead, he imprisoned her in a dark place, and when her body was about to give out, he took her to the County Clerk's Office to get married as quickly as possible.
