Chapter 22 After the fight
The sun had barely begun to rise when Lucy and Lucas returned to the safe house. The streets were eerily quiet, the city still holding its breath after the night’s chaos.
Lucy’s muscles ached, her hands still trembling slightly from adrenaline, but a sense of relief settled over her. Emily and Sarah were safe. Mercer was captured.
Lucas led her inside, his hand brushing hers briefly—a silent reassurance.
“You okay?” he asked quietly, eyes scanning her face.
“I will be,” she replied, though the truth was more complicated. The fight was over, but the weight of everything they’d just faced pressed down on her chest.
Lucas studied her for a long moment, his expression softening. “You don’t have to be strong all the time,” he murmured. “You don’t have to carry this alone.”
Lucy looked up at him, searching his face. She knew he meant it. Not just words. He had proven it with every moment of the last twenty-four hours. Every risk he’d taken. Every time he’d pulled her from danger.
“I know,” she whispered. “But I… I can’t help it. It’s who I am.”
He reached out, cupping her cheek. “Then let me be your strength,” he said softly. “Let me handle the monsters. You handle the world in your way. Together.”
Her chest tightened, and a tear slipped down her cheek. “Lucas…”
He leaned in, pressing his forehead to hers. “Shh. No more words for now. Just… this.”
They stayed like that for a long moment, the chaos of the world outside fading, leaving only the steady rhythm of their hearts.
Lucy couldn’t stop herself, she turned her head her lips dangerously close to his.
She needed him, she needed to feel him, to taste him, if she crossed this line there was no going back and she knew that.
She pressed forward pushing her lips to his, they kissed gently at first then more demanding. Lucy could feel his tongue exploring inside her mouth wanting to taste every inch inside.
She moaned into his mouth needing more demanding more, knowing he would give her more.
He walked her backwards until her back hit the wall, his dominance firm but gentle.
" I need you " she said breathlessly
In One swift movement he lifted her up, still kissing her passionately. She wrapped her legs around his waist.
He walked into the bedroom and gently laid her on the bed like she was the most precious possession he ever had.
The lust in his eyes was unwavering, he wanted her as much as she wanted him.
"Are you sure you want this? Lucas asked her
"Yes I need you"
That was all it took, he didn’t hold back.
Clothes were shredded and thrown all over the room leaving no barrier between them.
Lucase explored every part of her body, making her scream out with the most amazing orgasm she had ever had.
As she was coming down from her high, she heard the paper wrip of a condom and in one swift move Lucas was hovering over her again. He entered her slowly allowing her to adjust to his size.
Lucy moved her hips demanding more and Lucas happily obliged, he couldn’t hold back anymore and pounded into her.
It was raw, long overdue and so needed for both of them. They climaxed together and neither of them moved, neither of them wanting to break that connection.
Lucy had never has sex like this, this was so intense, passionate and left her torn between needing more and totally satisfied.
They fell asleep in each others arm, knowing how much deeper their relationship had become and no turning back from.
Later that morning, the Bravata team worked to secure evidence against Mercer’s network.
Lucy moved among them, guiding Emily and Sarah to safety, giving instructions where needed, but always aware of Lucas nearby.
He didn’t leave her side, but he let her lead when it mattered—watching, protective, yet trusting her.
“You’re incredible,” he said quietly when she passed him a folder of documents.
“I’m good with paperwork,” she replied with a small smile, though her mind was still buzzing with adrenaline.
Lucas smirked, brushing back a stray lock of her hair. “No. You’re more than that. You’re fearless. And you… you care when the world wants to burn. That’s why I’m not letting you go.”
Lucy felt warmth flood her chest. “And I’m not leaving,” she whispered.
He leaned down slightly, capturing her lips in a soft, lingering kiss. This one was different—less desperate than the night before, steadier, a promise rather than a release.
After Emily and Sarah were secured in another safe location, Lucas and Lucy sat together on the rooftop of the safe house, looking out over the city. The chaos of the night felt distant here, replaced by the soft hum of the awakening city.
“You know,” Lucy said, breaking the comfortable silence, “I never thought I’d feel… safe. Not really.”
Lucas glanced at her, a slow, thoughtful smile tugging at his lips. “Safe isn’t something that happens. It’s something you fight for. And… it’s something I promise to give you. Always.”
Lucy leaned into him, resting her head on his shoulder. “Promise?”
“Promise,” he said, wrapping an arm around her tightly. “No matter what comes next, I’ve got you.”
She closed her eyes, finally letting herself relax. The weight of the world, the fight, the danger—all of it could wait. Here, with him, she could breathe.
For the first time in years, she felt like she belonged somewhere.
And it was with him.
