The Underground Hideout

The Underground Hideout
Tony's POV

The rope cut into my wrists as I twisted free.

Vincent Senior's men had tied me up badly, thinking I was still under mind control. But the second they left me alone, I started working on the knots.

My memory was back completely now. I knew who I was, who I loved, and who I had to save.

I heard footsteps coming toward the room where they were keeping me. I quickly put my hands behind my back and pretended to still be tied up.

The door opened and a guard walked in.

"Time to move you," he said.

I waited until he was close enough, then I punched him as hard as I could. He went down without making a sound.

I grabbed his keys and his gun, then ran toward the exit.

But as I reached the door, I heard something that made me stop.

Crying.

Someone was crying in the room next to mine.

I looked through a crack in the door and saw my mother, Maria, sitting on a bed. She looked thin and weak, like she hadn't eaten in days.

"Mom," I whispered, opening the door.

She looked up and her face filled with joy. "Tony! How did you find me?"

"Long story," I said, cutting the ropes around her hands. "Can you walk?"

"I think so," she said, standing up slowly.

"Where are the others?" I asked. "Vincent Russo? Marcus?"

"Different building," she said. "Vincent Senior keeps us separated so we can't plan together."

"What about Sofia?"

"She escaped," my mother said. "But Vincent Senior told me he recaptured her."

My heart sank. "Then we have to find her too."

We ran through the building, looking for Sofia and the others. But when we reached the main door, armed men were waiting for us.

"Going somewhere?" one of them asked.

Before I could answer, gunshots rang out from outside the building.

"What's happening?" the guard yelled into his radio.

"We're under attack!" came the reply. "Multiple vehicles! Armed resistance!"

The resistance had come to rescue us.

"This way!" I told my mother, pulling her toward a window.

We climbed out just as Alex and Sofia pulled up in a van.

"Tony!" Sofia screamed, jumping out to hug me.

"I thought Vincent Senior had you," I said.

"He tried," Sofia replied. "But Alex's friends saved me."

Alex pointed to the other people in the van. "Tony, meet the resistance."

I looked at the faces around me. They were all young, maybe eighteen to twenty-five years old.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"We're the children," said a girl with red hair. "Children of the families Vincent Senior destroyed."

"My name is Emma Kowalski," she continued. "Vincent Senior killed my parents and took over our family business five years ago."

A boy with dark skin spoke next. "I'm Marcus Garcia. Not the Marcus you know - a different Marcus. Vincent Senior murdered my father and made it look like a gang war."

One by one, they told me their stories. Vincent Senior had been destroying families for decades, always making it look like accidents or gang violence.

"How many of you are there?" I asked.

"Fifty-three," Emma said. "Hidden all over the city. We've been waiting for the right time to strike back."

"Why now?" I asked.

"Because of Isabella," Alex said. "She's the legal heir to all the original families. If we can keep her alive and expose Vincent Senior's crimes, she can unite everyone against him."

"Where is Isabella now?" I asked desperately.

"That's the problem," Sofia said sadly. "She's walking into a trap to save you."

Alex showed me a tracking device. "We've been following Vincent Senior's cars. Isabella is heading to the old Russo mansion."

"The place where her mother was killed," I said, understanding.

"Vincent Senior wants to finish what he started twenty-five years ago," Emma said.

I felt sick thinking about Isabella facing that monster alone.

"We have to help her," I said.

"We will," Alex said. "But first, we need to rescue the other prisoners. Your mother told us about the drug Vincent Senior has been using."

"What drug?" I asked.

My mother looked scared. "He's been giving us something in our food. It makes us weak and confused. Marcus and Vincent Russo can barely think straight anymore."

"It's a mind control drug," Emma explained. "Vincent Senior has been testing it on prisoners for months. He wants to use it on all the crime families."

"If he controls their minds, he controls their businesses," Sofia said.

"We have to stop him," I said.

"The plan is already in motion," Alex said. "Half our people are rescuing the prisoners. The other half are going to help Isabella."

"I'm going to Isabella," I said firmly.

"Tony, you're still recovering from being shot," Sofia said. "And from the mind control drugs."

"I don't care," I said. "Isabella is carrying my baby. I'm not letting Vincent Senior hurt them."

Emma looked surprised. "Isabella's pregnant?"

"Yes," I said. "Which means Vincent Senior won't just kill her. He'll keep her alive to control the baby."

"That's even worse," Marcus Garcia said.

Alex started the van. "Then we better hurry."

As we drove through the city, Emma told me more about Vincent Senior's plan.

"He's been building a network for thirty years," she said. "Crime families, government officials, police departments, even some FBI agents."

"Like Sarah Chen," I said.

"Sarah's just one piece," Emma replied. "Vincent Senior has people everywhere."

"How do we fight someone with that much power?" I asked.

"By telling the truth," Sofia said. "Emma's people have been gathering evidence for years."

Emma pulled out a laptop. "We have recordings, financial records, photographs. Everything we need to prove Vincent Senior's crimes."

"But we need Isabella alive to present it," Alex said. "She's the only one with the legal authority to call a meeting of all the families."

"She's also the only one they'll believe," Marcus Garcia added. "Her bloodline gives her power."

I looked at the time on my phone. "How long until Isabella reaches the mansion?"

"Twenty minutes," Alex said.

"Can we get there in time?"

"If traffic isn't too bad," Alex replied.

But as we turned onto the highway, I saw something that made my heart stop.

Police cars were following us. At least six of them, with their lights flashing.

"We're being followed," I said.

Alex looked in his rearview mirror. "Those aren't regular police. Look at the license plates."

I looked closer. The license plates were government issued.

"FBI," Sofia said grimly.

"Sarah Chen found us," Emma said.

The FBI cars were getting closer. Soon they would force us to stop.

"There's something else," Alex said, looking worried. "Remember I said half our people went to rescue the prisoners?"

"Yeah," I said.

"They're not responding to our radio calls," Alex said. "I think they were captured."

My mother grabbed my arm. "Tony, if Sarah has the other resistance members, she knows all our plans."

"Which means she knows we're going to help Isabella," I realized.

Emma was typing on her laptop. "I'm checking our security cameras at the hideout."

The screen showed our underground base. FBI agents were everywhere, arresting the resistance members who had stayed behind.

"They got everyone," Emma said quietly.

"How?" Sofia asked.

"Someone betrayed us," Alex said. "Someone told Sarah where our hideout was."

I felt sick to my stomach. "Who knew the location?"

"Only resistance members," Emma said. "And..."

She stopped talking and looked at something on her laptop screen.

"What is it?" I asked.

Emma showed me the screen. It was a video of the FBI raid on our hideout.

But in the video, I could see someone directing the FBI agents. Someone who wasn't wearing an FBI uniform.

It was Marcus. The original Marcus. Isabella's bodyguard.

"Marcus betrayed us," I said, not believing it.

"No," my mother said, looking at the screen. "Look closer."

I looked again. Marcus was directing the FBI agents, but his hands were tied behind his back. He wasn't helping them willingly.

"They're forcing him to help," I realized.

"Vincent Senior probably threatened to kill someone Marcus cares about," Emma said.

"Or he's still under the influence of the mind control drugs," Sofia added.

Either way, our hideout was compromised and our friends were captured.

The FBI cars were right behind us now. In a few minutes, they would arrest us all.

"What do we do?" I asked.

"We split up," Alex said. "Some of us create a distraction. The others go help Isabella."

"I'm going to Isabella," I said.

"Tony, if you get captured again, you can't help anyone," Sofia said.

"And if Isabella dies, nothing else matters," I replied.

Alex pulled the van into an empty parking lot. "Everyone out. We run on foot from here."

But as we jumped out of the van, I heard the sound of helicopters overhead.

FBI helicopters were circling above us, shining bright lights down.

"Surrender now!" a voice called through a loudspeaker. "You are surrounded!"

Cars were coming from every direction. We were trapped.

"This is it," Emma said. "This is our last stand."

But as the FBI agents closed in on us, I heard something that gave me hope.

Gunshots.

But they weren't aimed at us. They were coming from the other side of the parking lot.

Someone was fighting the FBI agents.

"Who's shooting?" Sofia asked.

Through the chaos, I saw a group of people in dark clothes attacking the FBI cars. They moved like professional soldiers.

"Vincent Senior's private army," Alex said grimly.

"But why are they fighting the FBI?" I asked.

Emma looked at her laptop screen. "Because Vincent Senior just found out that Sarah Chen has been planning to betray him."

"What do you mean?"

"Sarah wasn't just working for Vincent Senior," Emma said. "She was planning to take over his entire operation."

The FBI and Vincent Senior's forces were fighting each other, and we were caught in the middle.

"Run!" Alex yelled. "While they're distracted!"

We ran toward the edge of the parking lot, but more vehicles were arriving.

These weren't FBI cars or Vincent Senior's black SUVs.

These were regular police cars. Real police officers who didn't work for either side.

"Stop right there!" one of the officers yelled at us.

We were surrounded by three different groups, all pointing guns at each other.

The FBI wanted to arrest us for Vincent Senior.

Vincent Senior's men wanted to capture us for their boss.

The real police just wanted to stop the gun battle in their city.

And Isabella was still walking into a trap twenty minutes away.

As bullets flew over our heads, I realized something terrible.

The war between Vincent Senior and Sarah Chen was starting right now.

And Isabella had no idea she was walking into the middle of it.
