Chapter 142
Chapter 142
Autumn's POV
I've just got a chilling report that two servants were killed today and they had poison in their blood, which means they couldn't survive it. I thought we were going to have enough time to settle things and calculate what we have at stake. Who would have thought that we didn't have any time left at all and we were being pushed around by whoever is designing all of this?
Every time something like this happens I can't help but think of Agatha. There's no one who will do something like this other than her. Even though I have no evidence, I feel like this is closely related to her. Since all those servants were always mocking and attacking her, she must have done this out of revenge. I just can't prove it.
The door to my room opened and I saw Lily rushing inside. She was holding some of my laundry like she wanted to give me some news.
"Miss, you won't believe what happened. I just heard that two mates were killed for no reason not too long ago. What do you think is happening? Do you think it's safe around here?" she asked me.
I knew she wasn't asking because she wanted to leave; probably she was doing this to see if I was safe or not. There's no way I'm telling her anything. I finally thought of a way to send her home until things are over. I don't want to get caught up in the middle of all of this.
"Lily, I'm going to give you a month's vacation off. You get paid as usual and you can have enough time to study for your exams in a private student community. What do you think?" I asked her.
She immediately shook her head. "I know what you're trying to do. You're trying to send me away so that you can handle this alone. I'm not going to leave."
"It's not up to you if you want to leave or not. If you still want this job you have to obey me. If you don't, then you can quit," I replied harshly for the first time.
I need to be harsh on her if I'm ever going to get her away. Agatha can't be trusted. What if she tries to do something to Lily? I don't want this poor girl, who has gone through a lot, to risk her life for me. Besides, the study community I'm talking about is a very big apartment complex, especially built for students, and they have luxurious rooms with many utilities.
Lily would be able to study there without worrying about stress or noise. The place has a lot of fun for her and amenities. She can go to school from there and live well. I have enough money to afford something like that. It cost me over a hundred thousand to prepare a yearly rent plan for her. That is part of the premium and with extra security.
We might need more time to work on things like this. As long as she's safe we can always meet later on. I don't want to put her in the spotlight of danger. I had a plan before to give her a surprise. Who would have thought this would be the one that will keep her out of danger?
"Miss, do you not want me anymore and now you're sending me away?" she sounded very sad.
"I know that you think I'm doing the wrong thing, but it's for your own good. This is something many students dream of and they don't have the opportunity. You'll meet a lot of friends there and you'll be safer. It's not safe in this place anymore for now."
She looked at me for a while before accepting what I said. "I guess I have to obey you, but what about you? Those people are clearly after you. What if they do something to you?"
"I'm someone who has died before and was brought back to life to correct my mistakes. Do you think those people can outsmart me?"
I patted her back. "Don't worry, I'll be fine. I'm not completely sending you far anyway. We can always talk on the phone so you will know any updates about me."
She hugged me tightly and began to cry. "I really want to stay with you. I'm so scared that something might happen to you."
I took a deep breath to answer her again. "I told you nothing will happen. If you don't believe in me, then why are you following me?"
She immediately pulled away from the hug, wiping away her tears. I guess what I said finally worked on her.
"I believe in you. I know you can crush all those people, but don't hesitate to call me for help if you need help. You should also believe that I can help you out," she suggested.
"I know that. I believe in you also... But your study is very important now, so you should face it."
I was able to convince her finally to leave as early as she could the next day. Agatha and her crew wouldn't have time to check on Lily. We need to move faster and uncover all the traitors in the pack. If we don't get rid of all those people we might be the ones losing everything. I'm not ready to lose my life casually like I did before again.
I went out to the study to look for them so we could discuss the next line of action. When I got there they were already seated, discussing with each other. I thought we agreed that we needed to investigate this together. Look at them acting as if I didn't exist. Why do I still believe in their nonsense?
"Autumn, you're here," Adonis said as I went inside.
I scoffed. "I thought we said we would discuss this together, but you all already gathered and had a meeting without telling me about it."
Knox helped me sit down. "Come on, we thought you might be very tired and sleeping, which is why we didn't bother you."
"W-what do you mean by that? Why are you so shameless?" My cheeks were burning red as I remembered the passionate night we shared together.
"Why are you so shy? I haven't even said anything and you're already turning as red as a tomato," Knox teased. "I also don't know what you're thinking about because I never mentioned anything inappropriate. What's going on in your head?"
"You—"
"That's enough. Stop teasing her," Dante stopped him. "You must have found out about what happened. It's very unfortunate indeed, and I can say that these people have no fear anymore. It's like they have something that we don't."
I shook my head, disagreeing with them. "I think you don't understand what the situation is. They're not the ones who have anything. They are relying on you to mess up so they can take over."
"So what do we do now?"
I thought about it for a while and didn't know how we were going to start this investigation. Anyway, we knew there were more of them in this pack, but there was no confirmation that everyone was indeed involved, so we couldn't make rash decisions or it would affect everyone else.
"If there was an important event happening, do you think these people might want to use an opportunity to sabotage it?" I asked them.
Adonis nodded. "I think so. During times like this the security is either tight or light to not scare the guests away. It seems like a perfect opportunity if the person already had that pack in mind."
"What are you thinking about, Autumn?" Knox asked me.
Gina told me before that she was framed by Agatha and kicked out of her pack until she finally killed herself. Then it means that Agatha already targeted her back. I don't know what happened after I died; however, I can tell the same thing that happened to these people would be the same thing that's happened to George.
If the same thing happened to George, then is he also reborn? Did he die or just leave and end up in the streets because he trusted his own sister? Then my speculations are right: those people are not just targeting this pack but also the powerful Frozen Pack.
"George is in danger!" I jumped up.
I immediately picked up my phone to call him while the rest of them were staring at me like I had gone crazy. The moon festival he invited me to would be the perfect opportunity to take over his pack since things have changed a lot in this life.
They might be suspecting that he knows something and would use this opportunity to go all out. Besides, attacks are usual in festivals like this; if you have enemies, they might disguise as guests to take over.
"Why is he in danger? Tell us what is going on."
"You people are not the only ones that were targeted by those people. George is also being targeted and his pack is in danger because they might attack him at the moon festival they are about to host," I told them.
George picked up on the other side of the phone and I felt so relieved.
"Autumn? You're really calling me for the first time?"
I felt guilty when I heard that he has always helped me but I never thought to call him.
"I'm sorry, but I wanted to ask you for something, if you don't mind," I replied.I have the perfect opportunity to grab all of them inside the festival and get rid of them. This should be a perfect plan. What I'm doing might seem selfish, but it's for the good of everyone. For this kind of situation I might have to use George.
‘I'm sorry, George, but this is for the best.’
