Chapter 89 The Truth Revealed
Chapter 89 The Truth Revealed
Four years of bottled-up anger finally exploded, and she broke down completely, her whole body shaking as she sobbed.
Even though she was stunned, Olivia couldn't help but reach out and pull her close.
She gently rubbed her back, just like she used to back in their dorm.
"Hey, it's okay, Mia. Don't cry."
"That's all behind us now."
Olivia's voice was gentle but steady.
"Those photos—I'll help you deal with them. Whatever the Petersons took from you, we're gonna get it back."
"I just can't believe... Noah would actually get mixed up in something illegal..."
Still, taking down the Peterson family wasn't going to be easy.
At those words, Mia looked up at her through her tears.
"But Olivia... Selene's not gonna just let this slide."
"Then let her try."
Olivia grabbed her phone and pulled up an audio file.
"Mia, I might as well come clean—I came here specifically to get you to tell me the truth."
"When you were on the phone with her earlier, I heard everything from outside and recorded it."
"She threatened you and mentioned Noah's shady deals. All of that's evidence."
"I know you're scared those photos will get out. I promise I'll help you."
She paused, her expression determined.
"So, Mia, you don't have to be afraid of them anymore. We'll use the legal system to protect ourselves."
"This time, we're definitely not hiding."
Sunlight poured through the window, washing over both of them.
Looking at Olivia's face, Mia suddenly felt like the weight she'd been carrying for four years had gotten a little lighter.
After thinking for a moment, she reached under her pillow and pulled out an old metal box, sliding it toward Olivia.
The box had a lock, with a worn brass key tied to her wrist with red string.
"This has stuff I've been secretly collecting over the years."
Mia's voice was tired but unusually steady.
"Four years ago, I started writing down when and where Noah made his deals in a notebook."
"I've also got screenshots of his money transfers to those 'clients.' They're not complete, but you can make out some details."
Olivia opened the box and found a thick notebook with bent corners.
She flipped to the first page, dated four years back, with shaky handwriting like someone had written it under serious stress.
"March 15th, dock warehouse, black truck, boxes with blue marks."
Every page after that had similar info, some with rough sketches of maps.
"After I dropped out, I didn't go far. Never went home—just picked up random jobs around Harmony City."
"She might not have much going for her, but this anger's been eating at her this whole time."
Mia stared at the information, her eyes far away.
"I just couldn't let it go, you know? I kept thinking maybe I'd find something... just in case I could turn the tables."
She stopped and pulled out a photo from the bottom of the box.
The picture showed Noah shaking hands with some guys she didn't recognize at a warehouse entrance, with container numbers barely visible in the background.
"I snuck this shot last year with an old phone I hid behind a dumpster. Almost got busted."
Olivia carefully tucked away the photo and notebook, her fingers going cold.
This evidence was enough to prove Noah was dealing in illegal stuff, but to nail them, they were still missing the key piece—no direct transaction records, no hard evidence that would stick in court.
"They're super careful with their deals."
Mia said quietly.
"They switch locations every time, and the contacts are always different people."
"I tried tailing them, but their cars were way too fast. Lost them more times than I can count."
Olivia closed the box and looked at Mia seriously.
"This is already huge."
"But you're right—we still need something that'll stick."
She remembered what Bodhi had said earlier: the Peterson family's grip on Harmony City wasn't just about their business empire, but their web of connections that ran deep.
"The Petersons have been running things in Harmony City for years. They're not going down easy."
Mia hung her head, her voice bitter.
"I knew it... there's nothing someone like me can do."
"You're not doing this alone."
Olivia squeezed her hand.
"You've got me now, and Charles might be able to help too."
When she mentioned Charles, something flickered in Mia's eyes.
Her old feelings for Charles were still an awkward elephant in the room between her and Olivia.
"Would he... actually help?"
"I mean, Green Group's pretty tight with the Petersons."
That was exactly what had Olivia worried.
Green Group's overseas business ran through Peterson family channels, and their board was packed with shareholders who were buddy-buddy with the Petersons.
If the Peterson family went down, Green Group would definitely take a hit.
Stock prices tanking and partnerships falling apart—it was all but guaranteed.
"He will."
Olivia thought about how Charles had taken that knife for her, and her confidence grew.
"Charles doesn't back down from bullies."
That evening, Olivia brought the evidence from the box to Charles.
The hospital room was quiet. After she filled him in, Charles drummed his fingers lightly on the notebook.
"My dad's suspected Noah was dirty for a while now."
He looked up at Olivia, his eyes dark and serious.
"Four years ago, when Green Group was in trouble, the Petersons swooped in to buy shares. They really just wanted to use our channels to clean their dirty money."
"Then why didn't you guys do something sooner?"
Olivia asked.
"No evidence was part of it."
Charles's voice got quieter.
"The other part was being scared that pulling one thread would make everything fall apart. Green Group had just gotten back on its feet—we couldn't handle that kind of chaos."
He closed the notebook, his tone firm.
"But things are different now."
"Our overseas markets are solid. We could've ditched the Peterson channels ages ago."
"We need to get this evidence."
"Not just to help Mia, but to break free from Peterson's control for good."
Looking at the determination in his eyes, Olivia suddenly remembered Selene's words—
"Green Group's gonna take a huge hit because of you."
Maybe there really would be losses, but compared to being under the Petersons' thumb forever, it was worth the price.
"So what's the plan?" She asked.
Charles smiled, something sharp flashing in his eyes.
"Doesn't Noah love doing business down at the docks?"
"I'll have Wilder dig into those container numbers. We might catch a break."
He looked at Olivia.
"Also, does Mia still have that old phone? We might be able to recover some deleted stuff."
Olivia nodded.
"Should be. I'll get the details from her."
Meanwhile, at the Peterson mansion, Selene was screaming into her phone.
"Mia hasn't done jack. Are you sure she didn't flip on us?"
Her assistant was on the other end.
"Doesn't look like it. My guys say she's at the hospital every day, hasn't gone anywhere else."
"Useless!"
Selene slammed the phone down and started pacing her room like a caged animal.
Truth was, Selene had always known that counting on Mia was a long shot.
She might as well handle this herself.
Before the next bidding meeting, she was definitely getting her hands on that design proposal.
And she was definitely going to destroy Olivia's reputation.
