Chapter 114 Chapter 114
Liana's POV
My phone vibrated against the counter as I moved to pick up the kettle. I stopped, dried my hand on a kitchen towel, and picked it up. It was a call from Mason.
I paused, then said. "Hello?"
"Boss," he said in a soft voice. "I spoke with Dominic."
I braced myself against the counter, my hand curling around the edge of it. "Yeah?"
"He accused me and he sounded very furious," Mason said. "Told me I hadn't told him about the new evidence. Something about a vdeo and an audio. He actually thought I'd withheld it from him."
"And you told him you didn't know?"
"Yes I did. I told him I didn't know anything. He sounded like he was doubting so i am not sure what he believes."
I did not say anything. I simply listened and llet him rant.
“He was also asking why I missed it. Why someone didn't warn him. He said something regarding betrayal, people betraying one another, getting caught off guard," Mason continued. "He was all fired up. I've never heard him like that."
"Good," I murmured. That was exactly what I wanted. I didn't tell him Dominic confronted me because he had no right to the information but I was glad I wasn't the only one Dominic was asking questions.
"He hung up after he was done," Mason said. "Didn't even leave me with much of a reason. Just hung up."
"What were you expecting?”
He sighed. "I don't know. Honestly, I just wanted to let you know. This is just my way of reminding you that i am loyal to you and not him."
"I believe you," I said to him. "But believing you does not mean I'm wiping everything out."
"I wouldn't want you to," he replied. "Just… I just wanted to let you have that update. That's all."
"Okay."
"Will you talk to Stanley?" he asked.
"That isn't something you should be worried about right?”
"Yes boss, I apologise. "
"It is fine," I said to him, and I hung up before he could say anything else.
I stood there for a second, just staring at the kettle but i was too restless so I picked my phone up again and swiped down to Stanley's name.
He answered on the second ring. "Hey," he said. His voice was calm.
"Hey. Got a minute?"
"Always."
"I just got off the phone with Mason."
He remained silent, which meant that he was listening to what I had to say.
"He told me Dominic called him and blamed him for having hidden the evidence. Dominic thinks he knows about the video and audio we presented."
"Does Dominic take us for fools? Even if we were doing this with people did he think we were dumb enough to share it with a staff?"
"I thought so too. He sees us as fools and I don't blame him. Mason said he kept raving like a mad man."
"Sounds like him."
"We are not sure he believes Mason though. And as usual the guy said he sounded… shaken."
“He should," said Stanley. "That evidence shook their whole story."
I moved over to the window, which opened out into the garden. Cam and my mum were out there. My mum was sitting on the bench, while Cam was occupied sketching something with chalk on the concrete floor.
"I think we need to go over what we've got," I said. "Just to make sure."
"We've done that countless times already, Liana.” He said in a wisper. “But I'm ready when you are.". He added.
I took a deep breath. "Okay. Well, first of all, there's the neglect. What he did to me during the marriage. The emotional damage. When I needed assistance and did not receive it."
"And the physical abuse," Stanley added. "It's all in your files."
"Right. Then there's the embezzlement. Company funds. My funds… I only found out that later, but we addressed that in the prenup."
"I've got a monetary breakdown with the lawyer. It's safe."
"And the intellectual property he took from me. My own designs. Branding ideas. He used them to start that business without acknowledging me. I even had some old messages I had sent him drawings."
"I remember thag too. That's already been documented as well."
"Then Serena. All the ways that he had treated her. Emotional abuse, manipulation when they were together, and then…"
"The assault."
"Yes," I whispered. "The assault that cost her memory. He planned that. We both know he did. And now we've done it again, brought it back to Elia too."
"Elia's murder," Stanley said slowly. "That one he won't get away with. That charge will hold."
"We're sure?"
He signed. “ We really need Serena for that one. Even if she can't testify, we need her to remember how to get the documents."
I closed my eyes. "So the next hearing."
"Two days from now," Stanley answered. "Walter wants to pursue the financial offenses first. Set the image of what type of individual he is. Then into the personal damage and criminal mind.".
"Okay," I told him. "I just wanted to know we were all on the same page. I know I've been in and out with everything that has happened with Cam, but…"
"You're doing everything you can," he interrupted me. "You're doing more than necessary. Breathe Liana."
There was a pause between us. I heard birds outside, and faint laughter of Cam far away.
"I get afraid sometimes," I confessed. "That it might all fall apart. That something might slip."
"I know," Stanley said. "I can feel it too. But we're not walking into that courtroom in the dark, Liana. We have the truth. And we're prepared."
I nodded, though he couldn't see me. "Thanks for always being here."
"I'm not leaving."
I glanced at the clock. "Okay. I should keep an eye on them. Cam's waiting outside and I think she's getting sand all over her."
He chuckled. "Tell her hi for me."
"I will. Talk later?"
"Anytime."
I hung up and let the phone rest in my hand for a moment before putting it back on the table.
