Chapter 806 For the One You Love, at Any Cost
Chapter 806 For the One You Love, at Any Cost
Edward gripped his phone tightly. "Evelyn, I need to take Eric's call."
"Go ahead." Evelyn gently urged him.
In front of her, Edward would answer anyone's call without hiding or avoiding anything.
He had no secrets from her.
But at this moment, Evelyn knew the brothers needed to have a private conversation.
Edward got up and walked to the living room, standing by the window, his voice filled with concern:
"Eric, how are you? Are you okay?"
"Edward."
After a long pause, Eric finally spoke, his voice delayed and hoarse like a traveler who hadn't had water in the desert for too long. "I miss Molly..."
Edward's breath caught, and he only replied: "Don't worry, Molly is with Grandpa. We're all with her. She's doing well right now."
"Edward, can I still be with Molly? Can I still marry her?" Eric asked in a daze.
Edward's throat tightened, suddenly speechless.
He knew Eric loved Molly to death, but whether Molly was still willing to choose Eric—he felt confused about that too.
"If I solve all the Clark Group's problems, will you let me take Molly away?"
Eric's tone suddenly darkened. "Edward, help me."
Edward's eyelids lowered. "You're my best brother. I don't need to say that."
"These next few days, help me gather all the negative information about the Clark Group—as much as we can get. Especially about Maurice."
Edward's heart tightened, and he said urgently: "Eric, Maurice is your grandfather, and he's the actual power holder of the Clark Group. Don't do anything foolish!"
"Patrick is still your dad, but I saw you dig plenty of holes behind his back for Evelyn."
Edward: "..."
True.
He was a professional at turning against family, a complete bad example in his brother's eyes.
"My mind is made up. Anyone who schemed against Molly, anyone who stands in the way of me marrying Molly—none of them can stay standing to talk to me."
Eric's gloomy, cold voice rose and fell in the night. "Maurice is the Clark Group's foundation. If I don't take him down, I can't uproot Neil completely, can't beat that drowning dog to a pulp."
"Eric, if you do this, I'm afraid you'll get burned yourself!"
Edward worried for him from the bottom of his heart. "Wait a little longer. We'll find the best solution!"
"I can't wait anymore... Every single second away from Molly, my heart hurts like it's being carved out with a knife!"
Eric's emotions spiraled out of control, and between heavy gasps came only hysterical roars. "If... you were separated from Evelyn, could you stand it? Could you?"
Edward felt sharp pain in his chest. "Eric..."
"For Molly, even if I have to overthrow the entire Clark Group, I won't hesitate!"
With those words, without waiting for Edward's response, the other end hung up.
He sighed.
Tonight would be sleepless.
Seeing Molly's condition gradually stabilize, Edward and Evelyn felt temporarily at ease and left Grandpa's house to return to their respective busy positions.
Edward had no time to rest and rushed straight back to the Wellington Group.
In the morning, Edward chaired a group meeting, in the afternoon he received important foreign guests, and just as he was about to call his little wife for some sweet talk,
Tyler's call came through.
Edward said warmly: "Tyler, what's wrong?"
"Sir, is now a good time to talk?" Tyler's words were evasive.
"Go ahead."
"This morning, your father came over and took Molly back to Riverside Villa."
Edward's eyes darkened. "Didn't Grandpa want to spend more time with Molly? Why so soon?"
"After your father arrived, he went to the study with Mr. Byron Wellington first. I don't know what was said wrong, but they actually got into an argument."
Tyler's tone was full of worry. "Molly naturally heard it too. She's always been the most obedient child in the family, so when Mr. Wellington wanted to take her back, she obediently agreed.
I'm just a secretary, so it wasn't my place to interfere too much. When you go back tonight, I hope you can care for and comfort Molly more."
Edward clearly heard the subtext in his words and asked in a deep voice: "Why did they argue? Did you hear?"
"It seemed... to be about Molly's marriage. They must have disagreed, which led to the conflict. But I don't know the specific details."
The man suddenly rose from his leather chair, his handsome face cold and stern. "I understand. I'll protect Molly."
...
Molly returned to Riverside Villa.
Now, Mother was gone. The servants said Debra would be sent abroad too. Edward almost never came home anymore—he couldn't wait to be with Evelyn every single day.
The huge estate, gorgeous yet empty, had truly become a gilded cage imprisoning her alone.
Molly hugged her teddy bear and sat on the living room sofa, tiredly closing her eyes.
Everything that happened with Eric was like a warm, happy dream. When the dream ended, she should return to where she belonged.
It was fine. Being alone was fine...
But why, even though she had accepted it, whenever she thought of that man's name, thought of his beautiful eyes, thought of his passionate kisses on her lips, tears still couldn't help flowing from the corners of her eyes...
Stumbling, messy footsteps sounded in the quiet air.
Molly slowly opened her eyes and saw Debra struggling down the stairs with a heavy suitcase.
At this moment, Debra was wearing athletic clothes she would never normally wear, her hair disheveled—more down and out than ever before.
As the family's eldest daughter, she had spent the most time with their parents and grandfather since childhood. She had received far more love than Molly.
But now the situation had completely reversed.
Now she was not only expelled from the Wellington family, she didn't even have someone to carry her luggage. It was truly sad.
Molly had already learned from Edward and Evelyn everything Debra had done to her.
She couldn't forgive this so-called sister, nor did she want any further entanglement with her. So she lowered her lashes and held her bear, trying to leave without acknowledgment.
"Stop right there!"
Debra suddenly screamed, her voice sharp and hoarse, ten times louder than before!
Molly stopped in her tracks and looked up at this face full of hatred, features twisted.
But this time, she didn't shrink back in fear. Instead, she dared to face this awful woman who had used her position as the older sister to oppress her for too many years.
"Heh... So now that I'm deaf, even you don't respect me?"
Debra panted roughly like a donkey that had just finished hard labor, both tired and angry, her eyes red with hatred. "Idiot, you damned fool... bitch!
Because of you, Grandpa, Dad—they don't want me anymore! I've been expelled from the Wellington family... my ears were destroyed by Edward! All thanks to you, you bitch!
I hate you! I hate you to death!"
