Chapter 794 My Wife Has Even More Ways
Chapter 794 My Wife Has Even More Ways
"Got it."
Edward hung up the phone. "Debra just had to pick the most sensitive moment to rush off in the middle of the night for a secret meeting with Jessica. Isn't that proof enough that she's the one who leaked Molly's medical records? Their interests have been completely tied together for a long time now."
Eric slammed his fist — veins bulging — hard against the metal railing of the hospital bed.
"She must have quietly formed some kind of alliance with Neil a long time ago. Otherwise, the whole power grab wouldn't have been timed so precisely, moving forward so smoothly. They've been planning this for a while."
"She doesn't deserve to be my sister." Eric ground his teeth, eyes burning red, repeating the words over and over.
"But legally and by blood, she's the daughter your grandfather and mother loved most. She's a legitimate heir written into the Clark Group's bloodline — your father's own daughter." Edward pressed his broad palm firmly onto Eric's trembling shoulder. "And no matter how airtight our theory is, without hard evidence, any rash move you make will hand them the perfect weapon to come back at you — to challenge your position and take you down."
"Don't think that sitting in the president's chair means you're safe. Those old foxes have more than enough tricks to drag you off that seat. They could even band together through the board to strip you of every core management right at the Clark Group. Eric, don't hand them the knife right now. Revenge was never about acting on impulse. And Jessica's scheme this time landed exactly where your grandfather has always wanted — cutting away your weakness. If you go after her now, you'll only get burned."
Edward's cold eyes dropped, his slightly hoarse voice carrying a chilling edge. "As for that fool Debra — leave her to me."
"But Debra and Jessica are in this together now." Eric grabbed Edward's arm, his face tight with anxiety. "If you go after Debra right now, Mr. Wellington will see it as a direct slap to the Wellington family's face. He'll use it as an excuse to come after you inside the company and make your life hell."
"Don't worry. I know what I'm doing." Edward turned toward the spreading darkness outside the window, a quiet, certain curve forming at the corner of his lips. "Besides — I think my wife will have methods far sharper than mine, and far more justifiable."
By the time Edward drove back to Half Moon Bay, the night had completely swallowed the city. The moment he walked through the door, Tyler and Evelyn came to meet him with serious expressions, quietly telling him that Molly had woken up.
"How is she?" Edward reached out and pulled Evelyn, who looked exhausted, into his arms, his eyes full of concern.
Evelyn let out a tired sigh and gently rubbed his hands, cold from the night wind. "Not great. Grandpa sat with her for a while, but his body gave out and he's been helped back to rest. Ellen's in there with her now, not leaving her side. What about Eric? Is everything handled?"
"I made him stay at the hospital. He stood out in the snow all night and came down with a bad fever, but he's okay now."
Evelyn lowered her long lashes.
"Evelyn, come to the study with me." Edward closed his hand around hers, his expression unusually serious. "There are some things about the Clark Group and Debra's movements I need to go over with you right now."
……
Meanwhile, in the quiet of the master bedroom.
Molly collapsed helplessly into Ellen's arms, her hot tears soaking straight through Ellen's stiff black jacket.
"Ma'am, look — I'm standing right here, perfectly fine, not a hair out of place." Ellen held the fragile girl carefully, trying to keep her voice light and easy — but her reddened eyes were already glistening. "Those kidnappers were just hired to scare you. It's over now. With Mr. Clark here, nothing like this will ever happen again. From here on out, only good things are waiting for you and Mr. Clark."
"Will Eric and I… really have a future?" Molly slowly lifted her head. Her eyes, usually so clear, were now filled with a deep, hollow despair.
Ellen's heart lurched. She quickly gripped Molly's shoulders. "Ma'am, please don't think like that! This whole thing is nothing you can't get through. Mr. Clark, Mr. Wellington, and Ms. Taylor are all working together now — they'll pull out whoever is behind this by the root. Everything will go back to normal soon!"
"Ellen… I may have been through trauma, but I'm not stupid. I know exactly where all of this is coming from." Molly's lashes trembled, dotted with tears, her face heartbreakingly pale. "This time, they crippled your leg and dragged you to a safehouse just to warn me. That was just a small show of force. What about next time? What if next time, to make Eric fall in line, they want your life — or Eric's?"
"The Clark family would never accept someone as broken as me. Eric has been shielding me from his entire family by force… and in the end, I'll only become the sharpest blade turned against him. I'll destroy him."
In that moment, Molly seemed to have shed every trace of her usual childlike innocence. Her eyes were clear, her thinking frighteningly sharp — as if this near-devastating ordeal had forced her through a brutal, overnight transformation:
"I could never be the kind of woman Evelyn is. She's brilliant and strong. In business, in every arena, she's Edward's equal — an irreplaceable partner. I can't do any of that. I'll only ever be Eric's one fatal weakness, a burden that drags him down without end. And I'll keep putting you — the people I love most — in worse and worse danger because of me."
"From the very first day we were together, I told him… someone as broken as me has no right to a love as fierce and whole as his. Eric's life should be at its peak. He deserves someone better, someone healthier."
"Ma'am! I'm begging you — please don't give up on Mr. Clark, please…" Ellen, never good with words, was now crying openly, and could do nothing but plead. She had no idea how to unlock the dead bolt on the girl's heart.
Perhaps Molly had long seen through the Clark family's ruthless, consuming nature. She had long known the painful price Eric had been paying out there, shielding her from threats she couldn't even see. Tonight's kidnapping — the one that had nearly killed her — was simply the last thing needed to break down what remained of her self-worth and her will to hold on.
"I actually know everything Eric has done for me, everything he's given up. If we keep pushing forward like this, he'll eventually be driven to the edge and completely fall apart." Molly slowly closed her swollen, aching eyes.
"I want Eric… to go back to being the Mr. Clark who once walked forward without hesitation, without looking back. I just want to watch him move forward — with everyone's eyes on him."
