Chapter 61 Which Man Are You Interested In?
Gabriel waited until the office door closed before lifting his gaze to look at Arabella standing opposite him, letting out a cold laugh, "Your good friend's husband... now that's even more interesting."
Obviously, he was misunderstanding even more deeply, thinking Arabella had stolen her friend's husband. After all, this kind of thing wasn't exactly unprecedented.
"Gabriel, what do you mean?" Arabella's expression turned fierce, her breathing visibly quickening with anger.
"What do you think I mean? If that guy really is your friend's husband, then your friend is too stupid! How dare she let her husband alone with..."
Gabriel hadn't finished speaking when Arabella lost her composure in anger, grabbed the water glass from the desk, and threw it forcefully at the man's face!
The water glass hadn't even returned to the desk when the man opposite jumped up, as if he'd been electrocuted, quickly wiping the water from his face.
Arabella's nerves tensed as she suddenly remembered Evelyn saying the water was a bit hot and to be careful!
"Are you trying to murder me?!" Gabriel jumped up with a furious expression, completely flustered.
Thinking of the water temperature, Arabella was also scared to death, reflexively dropping the cup and rushing around the desk. "Are you... are you okay? I'm sorry, I forgot the water was hot..."
She was genuinely terrified! If she had damaged his eyes or burned his skin, she'd be in serious trouble!
Gabriel kept his head down, water still dripping from his face and hair. The water was indeed somewhat hot, but not hot enough to burn skin. However, seeing the perpetrator so frightened, worried, and regretful, he took the opportunity to put on an act.
"You think I'm fine? My eyes are killing me!" Gabriel squinted tightly, pretending to growl.
Arabella was so anxious she was about to cry, looking at him helplessly, wanting to touch his face but not daring to act rashly, her voice trembling, "Let me see if there's any burns. Maybe we should go to the hospital. Eyes are no small matter; what if you're injured and go blind..."
The more she thought about it, the more afraid she became. How could she lose control and splash hot water at him! If he really went blind or was disfigured, she probably could never divorce Gabriel for the rest of her life.
"Arabella, if I go blind, you'll never get that divorce!" Gabriel threatened furiously.
"I... I know. Please go to the hospital quickly, don't waste time." She really started crying, grabbing tissues to help wipe the water droplets while pleading with him in a trembling voice to go to the hospital.
Gabriel didn't act tough, continuing to growl irritably, "I can't open my eyes, how can I go to the hospital!"
"Oh, oh, okay, I'll support you!" Arabella immediately took his arm, carefully supporting him.
Gabriel held wet tissues in his hand, perfectly covering both eyes. The warmth was comforting against his skin—aside from the initial slight burning sensation, he didn't feel much afterward.
Actually, Evelyn was careful in her work, and the water temperature was only around 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
So Gabriel's current experience was more like giving his eyes a hot compress spa treatment.
The two of them walked out of the CEO's office in this bizarre manner, immediately attracting considerable attention.
Evelyn quickly approached, looking shocked, "Mrs. Sterling, what happened to Mr. Sterling?"
Arabella felt guilty and ashamed, only saying, "He was scalded by water."
"Scalded?" Evelyn looked at Gabriel's wet hair and the front of his shirt, seeming to understand what had happened, and quickly reassured, "Don't worry, that water wasn't very hot, he'll be fine."
Upon hearing this, Gabriel instantly wanted to dock Evelyn's entire year's bonus.
"Evelyn, would you like to personally test how hot it is?"
Seeing her boss's dark tone, Evelyn realized her mistake and quickly said, "I'll notify the driver right away. Please escort Mr. Sterling down, Mrs. Sterling."
"Okay, I'll take him down." Arabella supported Gabriel as they walked toward the elevator, suddenly turning back to add, "Evelyn, is there an underground parking garage?"
Evelyn immediately understood, "OK! I'll have the driver wait in the underground garage."
This way, there would be less impact, avoiding more trouble.
On the way to the hospital, Arabella's feelings were complicated. She was still thinking about Sophia waiting for a reply, and with Gabriel now scalded, his mood was definitely not good—she didn't dare bring up the subject again.
Several times she wanted to speak but found it difficult to say.
And Gabriel, after removing the hot compress, sat quietly leaning back in the rear seat with his eyes closed.
The water on his face had been wiped dry. Looking closely, aside from his skin being slightly red, there were no blisters, indicating the scalding wasn't serious.
"What are you staring at me for? Want to scald me again?" Gabriel's cold, displeased voice suddenly rang out.
Arabella was startled, widening her eyes to stare at his, "You can see?"
"I'm just in pain, I'm not blind!"
She pressed her lips together, saying nothing.
Since his face wasn't burned and his eyes weren't blinded, there probably wasn't anything wrong.
Arabella felt relieved and gradually worked up the courage to explain calmly, "Zachary really is my good friend's husband. My good friend's family moved to Luminara not long ago because Zachary's law firm opened an office here. After they moved here, we had dinner twice. My good friend was present every time, and sometimes they brought their daughter along too. I don't know how you misunderstood, to think I had some kind of relationship with Zachary. How is that possible? They have a good marriage."
Arabella said all this very seriously, paused, and added with emphasis, "Besides, how could I possibly steal my good friend's husband? How could I possibly do something so shameless!"
She wasn't crazy. In terms of conditions and capabilities, you couldn't find anyone more superior than Gabriel in this entire city, right? Would she give up the nearly perfect Gabriel to steal a married man whose career was only on the rise? That would be insane!
After hearing her out, Gabriel unconsciously opened his eyes and stared steadily at her.
Seeing he still had some doubts, Arabella emphasized again, "It's true! I'm not lying to you, I have no interest in other men."
"Then who are you interested in?" Gabriel blurted out.
"I..." Arabella opened her mouth, hesitating, "I'm not interested in anyone..."
She was actually very interested in Gabriel at first, but her interest has been completely worn down by his indifference.
Hearing her passionless answer, Gabriel's expression grew a few degrees colder, "You're sick."
"You're the one who's sick!" she retorted without hesitation.
He curled his lips and said unhurriedly, "Being so young and having no interest in men—if that's not being sick, what is? I suggest you see a psychologist, or go to the hospital to check your hormones or something."
Arabella was speechless, turned away, and sat properly, too lazy to look at him, "Thanks, but whether I'm sick or not is none of your business."
After speaking, she suddenly turned back to look at Gabriel, staring at him and saying, "You're completely fine, aren't you? You were deliberately acting just now."
Gabriel closed his eyes again, expressionless, "If you don't believe me, you can get a cup of hot water and splash it on your own face to try."
She wasn't crazy.
Anyway, the hospital was almost here. Since they were coming, they might as well get it checked and hear what the doctor said, to avoid him blaming her later if his eyes had any discomfort, slandering and framing her.
