Chapter 61
DAKOTA’S POV
I finally understood what the hype about the potion was. I began to feel all the strength in my body leave. My vision blurred, and I began to see red. In a distant part of my mind, I could hear Odin laugh at me, and it brought tears to my eyes.
I tried taking steps toward Odin; if I could just get close enough to him, I’m sure I could end this. One step forward, and I fell to my knees, right in front of him. He placed his foot on my forehead and pushed me to the ground. I tried getting back up to my feet, but he delivered a strong kick to my stomach, sending me flying back a few feet.
It was finally making sense. I knew about the potion, but deep down, I couldn’t believe that it was this powerful. But what was I expecting? He had defeated Alphas before him using this potion, he had killed my father using the same potion, and he was about to kill me. What made me think that I was going to be different?
I sobbed as I thought of my mother. I wondered how she would react to this news. She might just take her own life.
Odin lifted me in the air and held me at arm’s length. My eyes couldn’t even focus on him as he delivered several blows to my face. I could hear screaming, and I realized that it was Akela. When did he get here? I didn’t want him to see me like this.
The more blows that fell on me, the more I felt life leave me. He threw me down, and my head throbbed even further upon impact with the ground. I groaned as everything in my line of sight became double. I lay on my back and looked up at the sky, where the moon was out in its full glory. I focused on it, and then I heard my name. It was solemn. I thought I had already died. I closed my eyes and accepted my fate, but I heard my name again.
“Dakota…open your eyes…the fight isn’t over.” I opened my eyes and looked at the moon. It was as though it was shining much brighter, and the brightness was increasing by the second.
“Wear your necklace.” I opened my mouth to laugh but instead clenched my chest as coughs wracked through my body, blood spurting out of my mouth.
“Wow, genius…why didn’t I think of that? I don’t have it!”
“What was that?” Odin said, “Are you ready to give up yet?” he said, slowly coming over to where he had thrown me to.
“End this. Wear your necklace. It’s in your hand.” My eyes widened in shock when I clenched my fist. My necklace was truly in my hand.
I summoned all the strength in my body and sat up on the ground, throwing the necklace around my neck. I began to feel weird energy seeping into me from the necklace. I flexed my hands and didn’t notice the weakness. I guess Angela was right after all.
I slowly stood up and rolled my neck and my shoulders. I was good as new. I looked at Odin, and he looked very confused and so was everyone present to witness the fight.
“How…”
I smirked at Odin and noticed a shadowy figure behind him somewhere in the woods. I didn’t need to see the face to know that it was Angela. I smiled. The forces were on my side today.
“Your potion isn’t going to work for you today, Odin.” His eyes widened in shock, and he took several steps back, but with a shout of war, I followed him.
I let all the anger and frustration that I had faced throughout the year fall on him. Lost my father, almost lost my mother, her mate, Akela. Everything.
I swiped my claws across his face until there was almost nothing left of it. I could hear his pitiful mate crying and screaming from the sidelines. I didn’t care.
I sent my right foot into his abdomen, sending him to the edge of the large circle, right in front of his family. And mine. I slowly advanced towards him, watching him as he tried to get away from the circle. I thought about the fact that he might surrender, and I wouldn’t have to kill him, and I began to pray silently that he didn’t. I wanted to have the satisfaction of finishing him off.
He groaned as I picked him up by his hair and forced him to his knees, raising his head so we looked each other in the eye.
“You thought that you were going to get away with all the things that you did, didn’t you?”
“Please!”
“Oh, shut up! You don’t get to act the part of the poor, sorry Luna.” She recoiled back and stood next to Akela. Odin began to laugh. I traced my index across the side of his face, drawing a fine line with my finger. I stopped at his cheek and applied pressure.
“What’s so funny, Alpha?”
“You’re so much like your father.”
I smiled.
“I am, right? Too bad that you killed him.”
“You should be grateful I did that.”
I applied more pressure on my finger till I felt his skin break, and my finger began to sink deep into his skin. His screams were music to my ears.
“Does it hurt?” I asked mockingly. He smiled.
“Not as much as it hurt your father...” I growled and sunk my finger deeper until it pierced his cheek, and my finger was in his mouth. He groaned and tried to move away from me, but he was too weak, and I had a death grip on his head.
I moved my hand from his head to his throat, allowing my fingers to begin to sink slowly into his jugular. Enjoying the blood that gently seeped out of his neck.
“Dakota! Please!” Koda tried entering the ring but was held back by Beta Markus. I sighed and kept my hand still.
“What, Koda?”
“Please...don’t kill him...”
“Why are you begging the bitch...Your dad can kill her!”
I growled at Sophia, and she retreated behind Koda.
“Please...”
“Why would I leave him alive? After everything that he has done to me? That you both have done to me? Why would I let him live?” He opened his mouth to respond, and then when nothing came to mind, he closed it.
“That’s what I thought.” I tightened my hand around his throat.
“Dakota!”
“What?” I watched as Koda lowered himself down to his knees and bared his neck. He was submitting to me.
“I know that he doesn’t deserve mercy, but please. For...for the sake of what we once had. Please, let him live...”
I looked at Koda and down at the miserable bastard that was a few minutes away from death.
Koda knew where to get me. Even though we ended on very bad terms, I decided to do this for old times' sake.
