Chapter 52 NOT HIS BIOLOGICAL MOTHER
\[MORNING\]
Orange lights rolled in the cloud, falling on Ixora's room. The harsh reflections shone brightly in Ixora's eyes. Ixora stretched herself, turning to the other side.
A strong smell caught her nose. The dangerous, seductive scent she had no idea if she herself was obsessing over. She couldn't understand the logic behind recognizing the scent at any time of the day.
She smiled, taking in a long sniff of his scent. The scent filled her nostrils.
Her eyes flickered open, and she sat up.
She took her gaze to the drawer and saw a paper in the drawer.
"This," she muttered and picked it up.
The scent invaded her nose again. She then realized it was the paper that smelled like him.
She looked at the paper. Some words were scribbled on it.
Staring at it longer, she was able to figure out the word 'FIREFLY'.
Another smile found its way, tugging at the corners of her lips as she admired the word. It might have been scribbled, but it has to be the most beautiful writing she has ever seen.
She didn't know why he was suddenly being nice to her. He even tucked her to sleep.
Her pupils dilated as she wondered how he had gotten into her room without anyone's notice.
It didn't matter. He was being nice to her, and that was all that mattered.
It still gives her the creeps, his sudden behavior. And the worst part, she had no idea what was going on in his mind. He was very good at hiding his emotions in his eyes.
She wondered what might have happened in his life to make him so emotionless.
Her mind drifted to Joanna.
"She might have an answer," she muttered.
She exhaled, remembering she had to go to work.
"Guess, I'll have to skip it then."
She rushed into the bathroom.
Soon, she returned dressed in a simple outfit.
She took her phone and sent a thank-you text to Drexton. She left the house.
\[BLACKTHORN'S AUTOMOBILE\]
"I would like to meet your boss," Georgia said, adjusting her purse in her hand.
Kian gave her his attention.
He bowed his head before asking her a few details about herself. He informed Drexton, and she was allowed in.
Georgia nodded slightly.
As she walked in, her mind spiraled. She was there to confirm if Drexton was Eric and Roselyn's son. Smith had assured her that Drexton was dead, but she needed to confirm it herself. It made no sense why he'd be after her daughter.
If he turns out to be Drexton, then she'd find a way to get him out of her daughter's life. He'd ruin her life without a second thought. If he's not... then she would be at peace.
All she needed to do was observe his reaction, that's all.
She exhaled, darting her gaze around the company. Becoming a billionaire at the age of 17 was not something that could be done by a pauper. His parents lived off of them.
She's just overthinking. He might be dead.
She wanted to turn back, but a second thought hit her.
A simple observation wouldn't hurt.
Looking ahead, she saw his office in front. His name was carved on the door.
\--
Drexton stood near the window, his hands tucked in his pockets. His gaze focused on the city, mainly on a boy who sat across the road, begging.
The boy reminded him so much of his younger self. Begging, getting trampled by people, and insults. His life 20 years ago.
He had been standing there for about thirty minutes. He saw Georgia arrive, and surprisingly, he was waiting for her.
She ruined his life, and is fighting for her daughter's life.
Ixora's thought made his mind wander to her.
She is...
A knock interrupted his thought.
He didn't reply, nor bother turning around.
The door carefully squeaked open. Her heels made soft clicks against the floor.
"Mr. Blackthorn," Georgia said, to get his attention.
Little did she know that he had seen her.
Drexton removed his hands from his pocket. Slowly, he turned, focusing his gaze on Georgia.
He walked to her and stretched out his hand. "Georgia Castellan."
Georgia smiled, taking his hand.
He gestured for her to sit. He sat down.
Georgia focused her gaze on him, as if his eyes would expose his real identity.
"Business?" Drexton asked.
If there was anything he needed, it was getting the meeting over. He needed to go back to his daily job.
Watching Ixora.
He needed to know her every movement. A big reason why he knew everywhere she was.
Georgia smiled, failing to hide the nervousness behind her voice.
"It's not business," she used her hand when speaking.
If Drexton had an atom of emotion left in him, he'd have been smiling or laughing by now. Seeing her acting so nervous in front of him was something she'd never do. Not after what she did to him.
"I came here because I needed answers. I will go straight to the point. Why are you after my daughter?"
Drexton leaned into the chair, his head tilting slightly to the left as he stared at her.
"Proof?"
Georgia raised her brow.
"It's okay. You are not the only Drexton. She might have been referring to another person," she said, the confidence in her voice unusually cold.
All of a sudden, she smiled, an idea clicking into her head.
"How did you achieve your wealth at the age of seventeen? Are your parents perhaps billionaires?"
"Mortgaged a watch. Parents are dead," Drexton replied, his voice coming out slowly.
Georgia analyzed the answer, concluding that he wasn't Drexton. His parents might be dead—it's just a coincidence. But, Drexton doesn't have a watch to mortgage. His parents couldn't even afford a house. So, mortgaging a watch worth billions was something Drexton couldn't afford.
She chuckled at herself, her face beaming with a smile.
She exhaled inwardly.
Now, she can breathe.
She smiled at Drexton. "I will take my leave now," she stood and left the office.
Drexton's gaze turned dark as he stared at the door.
\[JOANNA'S HOSPITAL\]
Ixora asked her way around, and soon she found herself in front of Joanna's office. She exhaled while walking in. She was told that Joanna was doing the patient's routine checkup, so she had to wait.
She wowed. The office was extremely large and beautiful. She wasn't surprised. She was the mother to a billionaire after all.
She walked near the table. A photo frame was on the table. She was tempted to pick it up, so she did.
Her eyes got fixed on the people in the picture. There was a boy and a girl around 4 or 5 years of age.
"Drexton has a sister," she muttered.
The boy's image caught her attention, and that was when she noticed something different about the boy. The boy doesn't look like Drexton.
The door creaked open. She immediately dropped the frame, facing forward.
Joanna, who was talking with her assistant doctor, halted in her strides.
"Xora," she called and smiled.
Ixora flashed a quick smile. "I hope my visit didn't disturb you?"
"Not at all," she faced the other doctor. "Well, run along."
He nodded and left.
Joanna went and gave Ixora a side hug.
"You have no idea how happy I am to see you. Come on, sit down."
Ixora smiled and sat down.
"What do you want? Coffee, tea, should we go and have lunch together?" Joanna asked all in one go.
"Aunt," Ixora chuckled. "I'm fine."
Joanna nodded. "So, tell me, why did you come?"
"You said I could visit anytime," Ixora said, playfully.
Joanna laughed, her expression turning serious.
"Drexton?"
Ixora looked at her and nodded.
"You can tell me anything," Joanna assured her.
Ixora exhaled. "It's nothing serious. I find his behavior strange. He hates me... I get it, but these past few days, his behavior towards me has changed, not really in a positive way. Just better."
Joanna held her hand, looking at her face.
"Do you like him?" She mumbled.
Ixora's eyes were fixed on her face.
"That is not what I mean. I was just wondering if you would tell me why he hates me so much. I have no idea. We didn't know each other before... even if we did, I might have forgotten. I don't understand the whole thing. It feels like I'm in the dark... his hatred seems so deep," Ixora sighed, slowly removing her hand from Joanna.
Joanna looked away. "I understand. I also find it hard to understand him sometimes. He's complicated," Joanna muttered.
"But, you are his mother. You might know something about his past... anything that could give me an answer."
Joanna exhaled, quietly standing up.
"I am not his biological mother," She said, meeting Ixora's shocked eyes.
