Chapter 36 VISIT

Chapter 36 VISIT
\[MILLER'S ESTATE\]

The luxurious green lawn stretched to the mansion. Heavily built guards patrolled the lawn with their guns drawn. A lady was walking in, a purse held in her hand. Black shades complemented her classy look. The workers were bowing in respect. She positioned her head straight as she walked into the sitting room.

Mr. Miller was already in the sitting room as if he were waiting for her.

She took off her shades, an arrogant smile on her lips.

"Georgia," Mr. Miller said, stretching out his hand.

Georgia took his hand.

"So, why did you come?" Mr. Miller asked, sitting down.

"I have something important to discuss with you," Georgia said, sitting on the couch, placing her left leg on top of the other.

Mr. Miller poured them a drink. "We can discuss it over a drink, or is it that important?" he said, handing her a glass.

Georgia collected it and took a sip. The drink made her lip gloss redder.

"So?"

"It's about the election. Help me get back to the spot that originally belonged to me," Georgia said.

Mr. Miller slowly dropped his glass on the table.

"What you are asking is beyond my reach. I'm sorry, but I can't help you with it."

Georgia smiled. "Do you think I came here to make a request? I know you are going to help me. You have a lot of connections."

"It's not that easy. You know the exact reason why you stepped down. The public thinks it's because of something deep and personal, but we both know the real reason why."

"It's been years since that happened. It hasn't leaked yet," Georgia said.

"And that's because you bribed them to hide the secret. You know what will happen if the secret gets leaked. You will be destroyed forever, and you will go to jail."

"That is my issue to handle. Just help me get that chair. The opposition parties are desperate that they had to ruin my campaign ceremony."

"How sure are you that they were the ones who attacked? I mean, they could have killed people to paint your name black, but they didn't. I have a feeling someone else was behind the attack," Mr. Miller said.

"Do you have anyone in mind? No right? Just help me get that position. I am ready to do anything, if you know what I mean," Georgia said almost in a whisper.

Mr. Miller smiled. "I know. Remember, we had an agreement to get our kids married. How are things going between them?" Mr. Miller asked.

"Perfect. Your son is quite smart. I must commend you. And my daughter, I have no idea who she took after. She didn't take after me because I am brilliant," Georgia said in a proud voice.

"What if she took after her father? You know..." Mr. Miller stopped when he saw the look in her eyes.

"Oh, I'm never supposed to mention him. Forgive me," he said.

He stood up and sat beside her.

"About the kids," Georgia said, changing the topic. "When do we fix their marriage?"

"Soon," Mr. Miller replied, trailing his eyes down to her exposed cleavage.

Georgia saw his gaze and smiled. She kissed his lips.

"Help you win the election and get our kids married, noted," Mr. Miller said, burying his face between her exposed cleavage.

Soon, their moans filled the room.

\[NIGHT, CASTELLAN 'S HOUSE\]

"Coming," Ixora said, rushing to the door.

Somebody was ringing the doorbell, and Ixora was on the phone with Nelly when she heard it.

She had initially thought it was Drexton, but what would he be doing at her house? Having studied Drexton, she knew that he was someone who didn't ask for permission before taking things. He just takes them. And that would make somebody like him just walk into her house as if he owned it, rather than knocking on the door.

"Asshole." She cursed beneath her breath, finally opening the door.

She saw a lady smiling at her as if she had known her for a long time.

Ixora raised her brow. "How may I help you?" She asked politely.

"You are more beautiful in person. Won't you let me in?" the lady asked, smiling gorgeously.

Ixora stared at her for a while. She seemed like a trustworthy person. She wouldn't come to her house just to hurt her.

Ixora shifted to the other side. The lady walked in.

"Thank you," she said.

Ixora nodded slightly, wondering who the lady was and what she wanted from her.

"You don't have to feel scared. I won't harm you," Joanna assured Ixora. A smile kissed her lips.

"My name is Joanna, Doctor Joanna," she introduced.

"Nice to meet you, Doctor," Ixora said.

"Not doctor. You can call me Joanna."

Ixora nodded.

"I will get going now," Joanna said, her eyes fixed on Ixora.

"But you just got here?"

"I only wanted to come and see what you looked like. You are a good girl. You don't deserve all the hatred," Joanna smiled sadly, thinking about all the hatred Ixora would receive.

Drexton's hatred, Maddox's, Jaxon's, and even Caius's. She had no idea what she'd do to make them understand. For Ixora, she is the girl Drexton needs in his life, but his hatred for her is always driving him away from the truth.

Ixora's eyes were on her.

"Which hatred? Did I do wrong to anybody?" Ixora asked, holding her palms together.

Maybe Joanna knew something about Drexton. The reason why he hated her so much. She might get an answer from her.

Joanna smiled and touched her cheek.

"I will answer your question the next time we meet."

She turned and left the house after taking a last glance at Ixora.

Ixora stood, perplexed. A strange woman came to her house, introduced herself, and then left. A sense of happiness washed over her. At least she was going to get the answers she'd been longing for.

She wasn't sure if the woman knew anything, but her guts were screaming that she knew something.

A text notification chimed in her phone.

She opened the text. It was from Drexton.

She read the text. A tear rolled down her cheeks. Soon, it increased as she squatted to the floor, crying.

\[BLAKE'S HOUSE\]

The door creaked open. Audrey and Skye stepped in. They were in their usual banter mode.

Skye was smiling like he had won the lottery, while Audrey wouldn't stop taunting him.

"I can bet on it that she wants to use you. She acted like she didn't see you staring at her the first day you had a shot at the agency, and now she even took your number. Weird," Audrey said, her eyes glued to her phone.

"I don't have a problem with that. Maybe she's beginning to like me," Skye said, smiling to himself.

Audrey stopped in her tracks, stared at him, and then showed him her phone screen.

She was googling for the biggest tissue company.

"What?" Skye asked, shifting his gaze to her.

"I'm just getting myself ready. When Bonnie breaks your heart, I'm gonna have them supply a lot of tissue paper for you," Audrey said, withdrawing her phone.

Skye rolled his eyes. "Blake was supposed to come to the agency today, but didn't. And he didn't inform us. You think he's okay?" Skye asked.

Audrey had pocketed her phone. "You know, both of you have gone crazy in that shit called love. Who knows, he might be thinking about his, Ixora," Audrey said, using her hand to do the air pose.

"He'd be in his room, let's go," Skye said, and they went to his room.

The door squeaked open, and they went in to see his eyes glued to the screen. His fingers were almost battling with the keyboard. On the screen were guys' images.

He was so focused that he barely noticed they had walked into his room.

"Okay, guess we were wrong," Skye whispered to Audrey as they both got closer to Blake.

Audrey and Skye exchanged glances when he didn't even glance at them.

"What are you doing?" Audrey asked.

Her voice announced their presence as he took his gaze off the screen.

"Research," he replied, fixing his gaze back on the screen.

Audrey narrowed her brow. "You are researching hot guys. Are you planning to turn into a hot guy because Ixora rejected you?" Audrey asked.

Skye flickered her forehead. "Stop spewing trash."

Audrey shrugged. "Just saying," she sat on the table.

"Blake, what exactly are you searching for?" Skye asked.

"A person who has the scent of obsidian veil," he replied.
