Chapter 128 COMA
Jaxon and Alexa returned to the room, and their eyes widened when they met the bed empty.
Their eyes went to the window to see that it was open.
"Not again," Jaxon muttered, and they rushed out of the room.
\--
Drexton walked down the street barefoot. He grabbed everything he could come across to support himself. What to expect: Someone who was buried alive, his oxygen almost seized. Instead of receiving treatment, he's out on the street like a deranged person looking for Ixora.
"Don't go away from me," he muttered, falling on his knees. He tried to stand, but his leg slipped, and he landed on the ground.
Grabbing a nearby pole, he used the pole to support himself and rose to his feet, determined to reach the place where he was attacked.
If she came to save him, why then does she keep running away from him? Why does she hide? She must be very angry that his sight disgusts her. Of course, a heartless monster's heart deserves to suffer.
He wants to make things right, and he doesn't care how long it will take him. Without her in his life, he's sure he wouldn't survive.
He sighted his car and went to it.
If Ixora did come to save him, he would be able to find a clue about how to find her.
Immediately, he put his head into his car; her scent wafted into his nostrils. Haunting as usual.
He speedily left the car and walked into the forest.
Then his search began. He had no idea what he was looking for.
What was he expecting? That she would make a mistake when she's hiding away from him.
His eyes caught dried blood on the leaves. Slowly, he picked the leaf, locking his gaze on the blood. The blood still looked fresh.
It could be his blood, the attackers or maybe Ixora blood.
Does it mean she endangered herself while trying to save his life?
He tossed the leaf aside, continuing his steps. The sun was beginning to set, painting the sky with its symphony, and he was not ready to leave until she came to him again.
Why does she do this to him?
His eyes fell on the shovel on the ground.
An idea came into his mind. Bad and reckless.
He took two backward steps, and his back hit the tree.
Tightening his finger around the tree, he mumbled beneath his breath.
"She will come again. I am unconscious," he stated, as if sure.
On saying that, he slammed his head on the tree.
Blood flowed out.
Jaxon and Alexa ran down the street, having no idea where to look for Drexton. There was no need to blame the staff, as it seemed he escaped through the window.
"We have to do something, Jaxon. What if he hurts himself again?" Alexa said, digging her nail into her palm.
She's worried about Drexton.
"I'm trying," Jaxon said, dialing his line again.
The call went through.
"Drexton, where are you? Why did you sneak out of the hospital? Answer me," he said at once, looking at Alexa.
From the background, no one spoke. Just silence.
He peeked at his phone, checking if he had called the wrong number.
"Drexton," Jaxon repeated.
Alexa gave him a questionable look. He shook his head, waiting for Drexton to speak.
"H-Hello," someone said from the background, definitely not Drexton's voice.
Jaxon froze, recognizing the voice as a female's voice.
"Who are you? How did you get his phone? What..."
The call ended.
He lowered his hand, the voice sounding familiar to him. He's sure he has heard that voice before. But where?
Was it Ixora? Could Drexton be right all along?
Alexa tapped his forearm. "What happened? Did you get through to Drexton?"
Jaxon nodded negatively and faced Alexa. "I think I just spoke to Ixora."
"What?"
Jaxon exhaled. "Not now, we should concentrate on finding Drexton. We should try tracking his car's plate number."
"You don't know the truck number."
"Come with me," he said, and she followed him.
\[RONALD'S HOUSE\]
Ixora removed her gaze from the phone and stared out of the window.
She forgot she still had Drexton's phone with her, and forgot to return it.
How could she make such a mistake? Jaxon might have recognized her voice, and he'd tell Drexton. They might try looking for her, and she doesn't care.
She wasn't hiding because she was scared, but rather to make sure her plan didn't fail. The more people come to figure out she's alive and close, the more her cover risks being exposed.
Jaxon had mentioned not knowing where Drexton was; she wondered...
The door clicked open, and Eric walked in, interrupting her thoughts.
"Are you okay?"
Ixora faced him. "Why would you think that? Of course, I'm okay."
"I'm just worried about you. You put yourself at risk to save him."
Ixora looked away from him. "You know why I did it."
Eric took her hand into his and fondled it softly. It was filled with affection. The things he couldn't do for her when she was a kid.
"You have every right to make your life's decision, and I will not try to stop you. I trust your judgments, and to me, you are never wrong," he said lovingly.
Ixora wrapped her arm around him. "Thank you, Dad. I won't make the repeat the same mistake twice."
Eric nodded, patting her back. "We're getting Nelly tomorrow. The fight will be bloody."
Ixora quickly broke the hug. "Then I want to go, Dad. I cannot endanger my friend's life."
"Don't you trust me. They are invading an organization; of course, it will be bloody. Don't worry, I have arranged for the best men to get her. Rest assured, you'll see your friend soon."
Ixora smiled, but the smile disappeared almost immediately. "Too sad, I won't even be able to welcome her."
"If I'm to say, this is the best time to test your friendship. She should know her friend by heart, not by physical qualities," Eric said.
Ixora hummed in response. She wishes everything would end soon, and she'd get rid of this stupid disguise. She won't have to act like a thief in her own house, nor will she be treated like a worthless puppet anymore.
"That reminds me, Dad, there's this girl I have seen occasionally with Drexton and Jaxon. She once mistook Hazel for me and called me her sister."
Eric's face fell, though he managed to hide it.
"Do I have a sister?"
\[HOSPITAL\]
Jaxon's eyes were fixed on an unconscious Drexton. He was back in the hospital bed, and his condition had gotten worse. This time, about three different wires were connected to his body, and his head was wrapped with a bandage.
"Doctor, how is he?" Jaxon asked.
The doctor sighed tiredly and shook his head.
"What do I say? Drexton is losing his mental health. He was beaten up brutally, and instead of receiving treatment, he went and slammed his head on a tree. It has affected his mental health, and I fear that if he goes feral one more time, he'll end up in a mental asylum."
Jaxon glanced at Drexton, slowly tucking his hand inside his pocket.
"Do something to help him."
"There's no specific help I can render him. The only solution to his problem is to find the one that keeps making him go crazy, or..." he trailed, hesitating to say the word.
"Doctor..." Jaxon stretched, urging him to continue.
"Or we inject him into a coma for twenty-four hours. That way, his body and mind will rest, and he will be able to receive proper treatment."
"You want to put Drexton into a coma?" Alexa asked, stepping fully into the room.
She got there not long ago.
"I was only suggesting Jaxon. We can't do anything without getting his permission, but I'd advise you to put him into a coma. Unless you find the one he sought for, he's likely to end up in a mental asylum," the doctor explained.
"That's enough, we are..."
"Injecting him into a coma," Jaxon said, cutting Alexa off.
"This isn't right. You know Drexton wouldn't take it lightly if he found out, which he will do. Have you forgotten you are both supposed to go to Sicily tomorrow?" Alexa said, hoping to change his mind.
"Didn't you hear what the doctor said? His mental health has deteriorated, with little sanity left. He might go mad if we don't do this. If injecting him into a coma would get him treated, then I don't care. His health comes first," Jaxon told Alexa, and faced the doctor.
"You have my permission, inject Drexton into a coma."
