Chapter 415

Chapter 415

The words in the chat were cold and ruthless, and Lewis only glanced at them before putting his phone away with a headache.

Aria looked over suspiciously, sensing that Lewis was up to no good. "What are you up to?"

Lewis lowered his eyes and lied without a hint of guilt, "Just thinking about how to make you some potato chips."

Aria was half-convinced and let Lewis coax her into the car.

Pregnancy had clearly taken a toll on her energy levels.

Lewis watched as Aria leaned her head against the window, looking sleepy. He reached out and pulled her into his arms.

"Go ahead and sleep. I'll wake you when we get home."

Aria struggled a bit but couldn't resist the warmth of the car, which made her even sleepier.

She decided to let it go. A short nap wouldn't hurt.

Putting aside the unfinished work cluttering her mind, Aria's breathing gradually steadied.

She didn't wake up even when the car stopped in front of the Windsor Mansion.

Justin turned around to speak, but shut his mouth when he saw Lewis's look.

They stayed in the car for a while, until the lights in the mansion came on, and Aria slowly opened her eyes.

In the darkness mixed with the blurry light outside, Aria looked around in confusion, taking a moment to come to her senses.

"Why didn't you wake me when we got home?"

"No rush. We're home now, and there's nothing urgent."

Aria was silent.

He had a point, and she couldn't argue with it.

Lewis chuckled softly, wrapped Aria in a blanket, and opened the car door.

The car's heater had been on full blast, and the cold wind outside made goosebumps rise on their skin.

Lewis held Aria tightly and led her inside.

The howling wind was kept at bay, and the butler greeted them with a smile. "Mr. Windsor and Mrs. Windsor are back?"

Lewis nodded slightly, already catching a whiff of something delicious.

"What's cooking today? It smells amazing." Aria peeked towards the kitchen, like a child asking for candy.

The butler's heart softened. "It's herb-crusted lamb chops. Mrs. Windsor hasn't had much of an appetite, so we tried something different today."

Maybe seeing something new would encourage her to eat more.

Lewis's eyes crinkled with a smile. "Thank you."

The butler waved his hand dismissively. It was no trouble at all; it was their job.

Jenny had already brought the herb-crusted lamb chops to the table. "Perfect timing, let's eat."

The aroma was even more intense than before.

Aria struggled out of Lewis's embrace, finally not resisting the idea of eating.

Jenny's face softened as she cut the lamb chops into small pieces and placed them in a bowl. "Try some?"

The lamb chops were perfectly prepared, with no gamey taste, and the flavor lingered on the palate.

Aria closed her eyes in satisfaction. "Delicious."

"Eat more if you like it." Jenny's smile was wide.

While Aria was distracted, the butler lowered his voice to ask Lewis, "Did Mr. Windsor take Mrs. Windsor to see the doctor? What did they say?"

"She's quite healthy."

The butler patted his chest in relief. "Healthy is good, healthy is good."

He had watched these two kids struggle for so long, and now that they were finally getting through it, he hoped nothing would go wrong.

After a pause, the butler pulled a small piece of paper from his pocket. "Maybe try this place? They say this church is very effective!"

Normally, the butler wouldn't dare show such things to Lewis.

But today was different. Aria was pregnant, and they had to be careful.

Who knows, it might help.

Seeing the butler's eager eyes, Lewis hesitated before taking the paper.

It wouldn't hurt to check it out, and it would be a good chance to take Aria out for a change of scenery.

After dinner, Carl was called over from the guest house.

He hadn't been around for a while, and his muscles were even more defined.

He flashed a big smile at Lewis and Aria. "Mr. Windsor, Ms. York."

Aria looked at Carl's skin tone and big smile, similar to Simon's, and couldn't help but sigh. "Did you train with Simon?"

Carl chuckled. "I just trained with Mr. Simon Windsor's team for a few days. It was quite effective."

Of course, it was effective. The Windsor family's bodyguard training was as rigorous as military training.

They were practically an elite squad.

"So, why did you call me over so late?"

"Sit down. I wanted to ask you about the Discovery Research Lab."

They were familiar enough to skip formalities.

Carl frowned slightly, quickly guessing, "Did you remember something new?"

"Not much, just remembered Satan."

"Satan?"

Carl's eyes widened in surprise.

If Aria was the angel of the medical and biological world, then Satan was the mudslide of the research community.

He didn't know exactly who Satan was, but he could infer a lot from his research style.

That guy was far from good. He was downright despicable.

Aria saw the unspoken curse in Carl's eyes and asked, "You know about Satan. Why didn't you mention it before?"

Carl laughed and admitted, "Because everyone at Discovery Research Lab knew you and Satan were close. Plus, you had amnesia. If I said something bad, wouldn't that give you a reason to deal with me?"

People naturally avoid harm. He didn't want to go from one pit to another right after escaping the underground fight scene.

Aria didn't want to argue with him and asked, "What do you know about Satan?"

Carl hesitated, looking at Lewis's face, then finally spoke.

"Satan liked you. He pursued you in the lab, but you didn't accept. The research project was split into two directions because of your disagreements. You both chose your own fields to study. In the end, you achieved results, and then... then there was the fire."

The reason for the fire was obvious.

Aria tapped her finger on the table. "What were the two research directions? Do you know mine?"

"Gene splitting and evolution," Carl spread his hands. "I only know the general direction. As for the research methods..."

Carl raised an eyebrow, not continuing.

Human gene research typically followed two paths: volunteer sample research and live human research.

Live human research was more effective but too shocking and unethical, so it was not promoted.
