Chapter 657 Cruelty

Chapter 657 Cruelty

The surroundings were eerily silent.

It was hard to say which of the two options was more cruel.

But either way, it made it easier for them to do bad things.

Oberon, with his intelligence forever stuck at the level of a ten-year-old, was always just a child, and not even as capable as other ten-year-olds.

His brain had been damaged, his neural pathways were unusually simple, and his mental capacity was quite low. He did things purely based on his likes and dislikes.

If he liked you, he'd be your friend; if he didn't, he'd ignore you.

Innocent yet stubborn.

"I raised... him..." Venom Elder struggled to say.

"So what? Are you trying to say that because you raised Oberon, he owes you something?" Zoey pulled a handkerchief from her pocket and tossed it lightly onto Venom Elder's face.

The handkerchief immediately soaked up the blood.

"Did you raise him as a person or as a blood bag?"

Venom Elder gritted his teeth, the veins on his forehead bulging.

But in his panic, he couldn't get any words out.

"You dealt with all the children you could back then, leaving only two survivors. One's body is forever stuck at the age of six, but their mind is like an adult's. The other's mind is forever stuck at ten, and their body won't grow anymore. One escaped, and the other you kept by your side, turning him into a living medicine."

"What's a living medicine?" Roy asked.

Zoey's other senior students looked grim.

Roy scratched his head, feeling like he'd said something wrong.

"A living medicine is someone whose body has been infused with various herbs from a young age, turning them into a kind of medicine. Their blood can cure poisons."

Roy gasped, "Damn, that's brutal!"

So he'd been getting his blood sucked every day?

Zoey shot a cold glance at Venom Elder. "If the other child hadn't escaped from him, they'd probably have faced the same fate."

Oberon was easy to control, but his body would grow and age over time. If he were a kind of medicine, his shelf life was limited.

But the other child wasn't.

That child's body would never grow, making them an endless supply of medicine.

That would be even more tragic than Oberon's fate.

Fortunately, the other child had found their biological parents and brother and returned to their family. As for Oberon...

Despite everything they'd said, Oberon stood there expressionless, carefully tending to the flowers in his arms, as if he didn't understand or care about what they were discussing.

"Everything I did was simple. I gave Oberon this pot of flowers. If he smells them long enough, his body will be filled with a medicinal property that reacts negatively with one of the components in the H5 serum."

Venom Elder's downfall was entirely his own doing.

If he hadn't drunk Oberon's blood, the serum might have actually cured him.

But he did drink it.

Zoey looked at the team leader. "Take everyone away, except for these two."

She was referring to Oberon and Irene.

In an instant, the castle was empty.

Venom Elder was taken away, desperately trying to speak but unable to get the words out.

Just like years ago, when he had children taken from their families and parents, sent to cold laboratories, and personally destroyed their lives.

Ignoring their pleas and tearful eyes.

In the end, he met the same fate.

Irene was still confused. "How were you so sure he'd drink Oberon's blood?"

"Because he's afraid of dying."

The serum aimed to treat genetic diseases, but it would inevitably cause some abnormal reactions.

Zoey said simply, "Even the best medicine is made by humans. It's impossible to cure a disease without any side effects. A slight rejection reaction is normal."

And everyone's body reacts differently to medicine.

With a bit more medical knowledge and confidence in the serum, it would naturally cure the disease.

Just like Saul, who was currently sleeping soundly at home.

His body handled the rejection reaction well, and he just felt sleepy after taking the medicine.

But Venom Elder didn't trust Zoey.

When his body reacted, he immediately thought the serum was faulty.

Afraid of dying, he sought out Oberon.

And drank his blood.

Irene understood everything and sighed, "He really brought this upon himself."

Zoey shrugged.

"What are you planning next?"

Irene glanced at her wrist, where a silver bracelet—a couple's bracelet—rested.

Her gaze softened.

"I want to go out and see the world. After all these years, I'm finally free. I want to follow the path he didn't finish."

Seeing the world wasn't her dream.

But it didn't matter.

They were inseparable.

She would complete what he couldn't.

Zoey paused. "I didn't intend for him to die."

"I know."

As they passed each other, Irene whispered, "You went down the mountain to find him. If you wanted us dead, you could've done it long ago."

"Of course, I'm not a saint. I just felt that killing you wouldn't help. I needed to find the real mastermind."

Zoey explained.

She didn't want people to see her as a saint.

Irene smiled brightly. "Got it. You're not a good person; you're a ruthless bad guy. See you."

She walked a few steps, then paused and glanced at Oberon standing still.

"Hey, want to come with me?"

Oberon ignored her.

Irene's mouth twitched. "Fine, you know how to choose."

She turned and left.

Oberon eventually went back with Zoey.

He didn't listen to anyone or acknowledge anyone. He treated everyone like air.

Except for Zoey.

When she spoke, he responded.

So naturally, he was left in Zoey's care.

And so, Venom Elder's story came to an end.

He had organized illegal experiments, stolen important serums from the institute, and killed many people.

His crimes were numerous, and even though he was paralyzed, he was doomed.

On the way back, Henry asked Zoey.

"What about the Institute for Global Strategy and Analysis?"

They were involved in the experiments back then.

They couldn't be allowed to get away with it.

Zoey smiled slightly. "The celebration banquet in half a month will be the perfect stage."

Time flew by.

Half a month later, at the Institute for Global Strategy and Analysis's celebration banquet, Blake gave an impassioned speech, praising Zoey and her team.

Then he announced plans to send them abroad for training.

In the middle of his speech, a group of people suddenly burst into the banquet.

"Mr. Stewart, you are suspected of conducting illegal experiments. We have solid evidence. Come with us."

Blake was stunned, unable to ask any questions before being taken away.

Everyone was bewildered.

Flora leaned over to Zoey. "What illegal experiments did he do? Was it the man-eating ants?"

"Who knows?"

Zoey shrugged, picking up a small cake from the table.

It was quite tasty.

Then she turned and left the banquet.

The next day, Blake's fate was sealed.

He was completely dismissed, stripped of his political rights for life, and sentenced to death for his involvement in multiple illegal experiments.

Flora and the others were thrilled. No one had expected Blake to fall from power so quickly.
