Chapter 39: Death of Madame Clarke

Chapter 39: Death of Madame Clarke
Madame Clarke slipped out the living room. The fights have everyone exhausted. She needs to retrieve a letter from her home office. As she approaches the door, she found three crows waiting. She quickly looked around before she carefully closed the door. As she approached her desk she watched the one bird step from the small parchment. She reached for it and carefully opened it. She looks at the bird, “Are you sure?” she questions softly.
“Now I officially know you are crazy,” William softly enters the office. He shuts the door behind him.
“What are you doing in here?” Madame Clarke asked instantly furious.
“Why are you talking to a fucking bird?” he challenged his own question.
“My actions have nothing to do with you, William. I want you to leave.”
“I don’t think so. I would rather you tell me what you are hiding in your hand?” William reached into his pocket to retrieve a gun. “I think its time you know who is in control.”
“What the hell are you talking about?” the older woman watches the man her own son placed in control of their destiny. She never trusted him.
William fired the gun. The small lethal dart hitting her in the arm.
“What did you?” Madame Clarke felt the sudden burning through her veins. It suddenly feels like her body was too heavy for her legs. She stumbles into the nearest chair. It really feels like her body was burning from within. “William,” she said as pain start to sear through her.
William grabbed hold of another chair pulling it towards where she was sitting. “You look a mess, madame Clarke,” he said with satisfaction.
“Grace,” she said.
“Don’t worry, I will take care of her. But first you.” He reaches out to touch her skin that feels clammy. “I hate you, but you didn’t even care.” He looks around the office. “You plot and plan in this room but you never even saw who I was.” William watches her. He doesn’t even feel anger, just coldness with his intent.
“Piece of trash,” she said in obvious pain.
“No, I am more than you know. I grew up and I watch. I learned and understood. I am the true William Clarke, but you forced my father to deny who I was. You made me a servant in his home.”
“My husband was a nobody.” She said with her fingers gripping the spot where the needle has entered her skin.
“You are the nobody, bitch. This whole empire belongs to my father. It all rightfully belongs to me. Well today is the day of your reckoning. I will take what’s mine.” He hissed in her face.
“He was a nobody,” she insists.
“You have stolen him from me, that makes us even, old bitch.” He stood and went to pour himself a brandy. He comes back to her, watching her with a cold look. He was finally getting his revenge.
Madame Clarke knew her time was ending. Her eyes searched for the birds, as they were watching and absorbing what’s happening. She carefully nods her head giving the order. The birds immediately ascend before circling the room. They simply flew from the open window. She forced her body into an upright position. She refuses to sit in a submissive position in front of this greedy fool.
“I have something to tell you, old bitch.” William sits in front of her again.
“You can’t hurt me,” she whispered.
“I think I can. I have been waiting to tell you this. I killed first your daughter. I took pleasure in poisoning her. Did you know what her last request was?”
Madame Clarke just watches him.
“Please, I want my mommy. Well, I denied her that request. I wanted her to die painfully and alone.” William sits smirking full of satisfaction. “Another truth, I thrown her body onto the dump. You buried and empty coffin.”
Madame said nothing, her eyes compel him unwittingly to confess all his misdeeds.
“You were clueless. My next target, that stupid son of yours. I start to play him for the fool he was. ‘My’ father taught me how to treat him. I told me he hated that fool. It was so easy to convinced him to put me in control of the Clarke Legacy. The moment I signed that single document, I killed him. But I choose to play the game. Grace, well,” he looks really openly vindictive.
“Fools’ power,” she whispered.
“Excuse me!” he said matter of fact. “I build my own power. You can’t do anything about it.”
“It will crumble tomorrow.” She said painfully.
“You’re a pain riddled fool. You have no power over me. I can see how my special poison is working through you. The moment you are dead, I will be fully in control.”
“Grace,” she said winching in pain.
“She will follow soon. Erick Dawn will make sure she wants to be dead.” William suddenly swallows the last of the brandy. “You can die on your own.” He turns to leave.
“William,” she said suddenly in a strong voice.
“What,” he snapped.
“Sound of silence,” she said smiling painfully.
“What are you talking about?” he asked impatiently.
“… warning…”
William stood looking at the old woman. He finds it very disturbing that self-satisfied smile permanently frozen on her face. He watches the window; the birds suddenly enter. They simply darken the office. He wants to leave but it was like he couldn’t move.
“Where are you, William?” Bette opened the door. She quickly needed to duck covering her eyes. When she opens them again, she saw the words written on the floor.
“Bette,” William has watched the feathers being place like that.
“What happened?” she asked anxiously. The birds suddenly left. The wind from their wings scattered the feathers. “William,”
“You, you did read the words, right?” he asked softly. His eyes on the dead woman who seemed to smirk at him.
“What truth is in the shadows?” she asked. “What did you do?” she finally follows his eyes. She found madame Clarke dead.
