Chapter 108 Emily is Excellent
Charlotte knew her gig was to rewrite the script, but acting? That was a whole different ball game for her. As a screenwriter, she mostly holed up in her room, only coming out for meetings or to visit the set.
Emily: [How does she cry on cue like that? I'm an actress too, but I can't do it,] Emily grumbled inwardly, blinking her eyes like she was trying to copy Aurora's tears. But let's be real, her acting skills just weren't cutting it.
David shot a look at James, who gave a nod.
With James' go-ahead, David stood up suddenly, grabbing everyone's attention. He grinned and said, "Aurora, James and I have nothing to hide. But you were all over us that day, and you know why. You even had someone snap photos. Don't tell me you don't remember. If you need a reminder, I've got the pictures right here."
David tossed the photos he got from Percy in front of Aurora.
Emily didn't doubt David for a second. He was part of the crew, after all. When she and Brian had asked the crew to find Percy, it must've been David who tracked him down.
Brian was caught off guard. He hadn't expected David to find Percy before they did. Remembering the beating Percy took, Brian shivered and decided to keep that memory to himself.
"I think I've seen these photos somewhere before. Aurora, help me out here. I know I've seen them, but I can't remember where," Emily said, pretending to have amnesia, but her bad acting couldn't hide the sarcasm in her voice.
"Emily, why are you gunning for me today? If those photos caused a misunderstanding, I've already explained. You can ask Mr. Smith. There's no need to humiliate me like this," Aurora snapped. She hadn't expected David to throw the photos out like that. With the evidence right in front of her, she couldn't argue her way out, so she tried to change the subject.
"Percy has already spilled the beans. Do you really need me to play the recording to convince you?" Emily was fed up. Aurora was still trying to argue. It would be so much easier if she just admitted her mistake and left.
"Fine, if you want to blame me, I'll take it. Then what? How do you plan to handle it?" Aurora shot back defiantly. She had a contract and most of the filming was already done. Unless Emily wanted to scrap everything and start over, she'd have to let Aurora finish.
Emily: [If this were any other crew, you might have gotten away with it. But do you know who I am? I've been ready for this. So, Aurora, just get out of my sight. Trying to get close to James? Letting you leave is the biggest mercy you'll get from me. Don't push your luck.]
James caught Emily's vibe and shot her a look. He sensed a bit of jealousy, which weirdly made him happy. He even thought about sticking up for Aurora just to mess with Emily a little more.
Emily declared, "Of course, we're replacing you!"
"What?" Aurora and Brian shouted at the same time. Aurora was shocked that Emily would actually say it, while Brian quickly jumped in, "Ms. Johnson, we can't replace her now. If we do, all our previous efforts and money will be wasted."
Brian knew Emily loved money, so he played up the wasted expenses, hoping it would change her mind. But Emily didn't budge. She smiled and said, "Don't worry about it, Brian. I'll handle it. Just keep filming according to schedule."
Turning to Aurora, Emily said, "Aurora, you know whether you were involved in Zayne drugging Ella to assault her. I haven't held you accountable, so don't make excuses. Now, if you keep lying, who will believe you? While I still appreciate your contributions to the crew, let's part ways amicably. Do you really want to wait until I get angry?"
Emily squinted at Aurora. She was bluffing, but David suddenly slammed the table, making Emily jump and almost lose her cool.
"Sit down!" James ordered coldly, and David quickly sat back down.
David felt wronged. He just wanted to back up Emily, but it seemed he messed up and even scared Ella.
Ella, who had been quiet in the corner, patted her chest. David's impulsive nature was a double-edged sword. It was great when it worked, but annoying when it didn't.
Ella was still surprised by Emily's decision to replace Aurora. Since joining the crew, she had been diligently acting and practicing in her spare time. She found she enjoyed acting and had a bit of talent for it. So, she was out of the loop on what had happened.
But after seeing the photos David threw out, Ella agreed with Emily. Aurora had to go.
Though she hadn't admitted it, Ella had started to like David. Seeing the intimate photos of Aurora and David made her furious.
Emily: [David's been doing well lately. Ella's starting to like him. Looks like Joshua is history. David, you've succeeded. Congrats!]
Emily was happy for David, hearing Ella's thoughts. David, hearing Emily's thoughts, was also very happy. He even thought about sending Emily some money, but seeing his pitiful balance, he decided against it. He was about to get married and had a wife and two kids to support. So, he nudged James and said, "James, I think Emily deserves a reward."
