Chapter 102 I Look Down on You

David shook his head and said, "Emily, this isn't my thing. I'm better with real stuff. If it's fake, I'll mess it up."

Emily: [Since when did David have such a clear understanding of himself? This is rare.]

Emily looked at David in surprise. She had no idea that her inner thoughts had given David a clear understanding of himself. But hearing it out loud still made David feel embarrassed.

David forced a smile, while James was trying not to laugh, and Sophia was already laughing out loud.

[If all else fails, just kiss her and push her onto the bed.] Emily went too far with her comments, and eventually she got kicked out of the group chat by the three members of the Smith family. They thought Emily should just sit back and watch the drama unfold without saying anything - if she had complaints, she should just keep them to herself.

In the group chat, David said: [I used to think Emily's inner thoughts were a bit malicious, but now I think her words are even worse.]

Sophia replied: [Totally. James, you better watch out.]

James responded: [I'm game!]

James' response made Sophia and David both look at him in surprise. James looked back at them confidently.

Sophia leaned closer to David and said, "Do you think James has been possessed or something?"

"Definitely," David nodded.

"Could you at least lower your voices if you're gonna talk bad about me?" James said, a bit helpless.

Emily, who was playing with the kids nearby, looked at the three of them chatting and laughing, feeling a bit envious.

Emily: [It seems I'm still an outsider. The Smith family chats without me. I should find a chance to divorce James and find another handsome guy.]

"Emily, I have a question for you. Can you come over?" Sophia raised her hand and called out to Emily after hearing her inner thoughts.

David nodded and said, "Yeah, Emily, come join us."

James didn't say anything, but he casually placed a chair next to him and moved most of the snacks in front of David and Sophia to the empty spot.

Emily shook her head and said, "I'll pass. You guys chat. I'll spend more time with the kids."

Emily: [Everyone is going to leave me. The Smith family will, and so will you. Once you all find your own homes, I'll be alone. Where will my home be then? I'm so pitiful.]

Emily wiped the corner of her eye as she complained. She really had tears. As someone who had been reborn, she had no family or friends here. At this moment, she truly felt a bit lonely.

James frowned after hearing Emily's inner thoughts. He knew Emily must have misunderstood them. They had only asked her to leave as a joke, and her suggestion wasn't great. So, they didn't say anything when she left. But neither he, David, nor Sophia ever considered her an outsider.

"What do we do, James? Emily seems really upset," Sophia asked James.

David looked at James.

"I'll handle it," James said, standing up and walking over to Emily.

Emily looked at him curiously and asked, "What are you doing?"

Then, to everyone's surprise, James effortlessly picked Emily up with one arm and carried her back to the table, gently placing her on the chair. He pointed to the snacks and said, "Come on, join us and listen to us rag on David."

Sophia nodded enthusiastically and said, "Yeah, Emily, just sit here and listen to us give David a hard time."

David had a pained expression. He looked at James and Sophia. What was this? There were plenty of ways to cheer Emily up, but why did they have to pick on him?

David was on the verge of tears, but what could he do? He lowered his head and went along with it.

Emily was still in shock from being carried by James. She just nodded and started munching on snacks as she listened to James and Sophia.

James said, "David, how much do you like Ella? If you had to choose between Aurora and Ella, I mean if Aurora liked you and Ella didn't, who would you pick?"

"Ella, no doubt," David said firmly.

"What if Joshua comes back? Could you accept Aurora then?" Joshua had always been a touchy subject. No one brought him up, but Sophia didn't care about that now and mentioned him directly.

David's expression darkened at the mention of Joshua. He knew that if Joshua returned, he would lose badly. With Ella's personality, even if she liked David, she would bury those feelings and spend the rest of her life with Joshua. Even if she knew it might not be happy, that was Ella's choice.

What would David do then? If Ella had Joshua, then having Aurora wouldn't be too much to ask. Thinking of this, David slowly said, "I guess I would agree."

Emily paused while eating snacks. She knew David's choice was rational, but hearing it made her uncomfortable. So, she got up to leave, this time voluntarily.

But before she could stand up, a hand gently pressed her back into the seat. James looked at her and said, "Got something to say? Let's hear it."

Emily smiled and shook her head without speaking. She had been kicked out for saying the wrong thing earlier, so she didn't dare to speak up now.

"Say it. I want to hear it, and David wants to hear it too," James said, looking at David. David didn't really want to hear it. He knew Emily's words would be harsher than her inner thoughts, but he nodded anyway.

"Alright, I'll say it," Emily reluctantly nodded. After thinking for a moment, she suddenly slapped the table and stood up.

This startled everyone. As they all looked at Emily in surprise, she pointed at David and said, "David, what are you talking about? So what if there's Joshua? Just because there's a goalie doesn't mean you can't score! Your love is your own to pursue. Whether you like Ella is your business, not Joshua's. Let's not even talk about whether Joshua is still alive after being missing for so long. Even if he is, so what? He's just another competitor. If you don't have the guts to win Ella back from Joshua, then I look down on you."
