Drama in the establishment

“Get here now, bitches!” A wardkeeper yelled at the top of his voice.

The slave establishment was no place for pure and sane minds. It was a place filled with filth. Both the people behind the cells and the ones who guarded the large buildings were cruel. No one was right, even the ones who came in with a right mind had been turned into rogues. In such a scary place, one could only hope to be sold to the right mistress or master. That was the only saving grace out of this cage.

It was past midnight when Vera stood up from the floor, but due to the fact that the room was tiny, she was compelled to sit down. She sluggishly crawled to the shabby little window that generously poured light from the moon. When she came to stand under the light, an evident bruise was formed on her cheeks which was caused by one of the slaves when she attempted to get a cup of water.

This wasn't Vera's first time in a slave establishment; she had been brought here when her parents were unable to pay their debts, but luck had shone on her.

Could that even be called luck? Because there was nothing lucky about it. The Alpha who had bought her forcefully impregnated her, and her sister had sold her once again. What sort of luck was that?

“Or am I cursed?” Vera murmured under her breath. Although she had vowed to think positively because of her unborn kids, at that moment, she couldn't control the negative thoughts in her head.

Tilting her head back, she took a deep breath, assuring herself that things would get better the next day. Unfortunately, the next morning was worse than the night before.

The slave establishment was no less than a prison, the only difference was that prisoners were punished and executed, while the slaves were maltreated before being sold out.

A loud shrilling voice woke Vera the next morning. The ward had strictly instructed her to head for the bathing room, then to the dining arena.

“The dining arena?” Vera had scoffed internally. They made the dining room sound like a paradise, but it was far from it. The slaves would be served trash and dirt, then they would all struggle for the little dirty water dropped in a broken jar.

Vera had been a victim of all this maltreatment, and luckily for her, she survived it, but she wasn't sure if she would be able to pass through it again, mainly because of the babies in her womb.

When she entered the bathing room where many girls and women had stripped down to their toes, she was greeted by a terrible odor, that she was tempted to close her nose to prevent her from collapsing.

Vera knew that not taking off her clothes would be trouble, and the ward keepers might beat her to a pulp. Her only option was to blend in and obey her seniors until she figured out what to do.

People were usually sold to the slave establishment daily, and it was nothing new when Vera entered the area. But being one of the newest slaves, some of them looked at her curiously.

Vera heard their whispering, but she turned a deaf ear to it. No one recognized her, it was probably because those who were in the establishment during her first visit had been sold off.

“Lucky me…” she murmured as she rubbed the bar of soap on her body. Her belly was flat, so it was impossible to notice her pregnancy.

Vera was somehow happy that her baby bump had not grown. It was said that if the slave's management found out that a slave was pregnant, she would be isolated in a dark room till she gave birth. Once she was put to bed, she would be sold off, and her child's body parts would be sold to wealthy people.

Just thinking about it made Vera want to puke, she might not be ready to be a mother, but she most definitely wasn't ready to see her children dead.

Not making eye contact with anyone, she finished her bath quickly and left the bathing room with some new set of ragged clothes that were provided by the guards’ woman.

Vera's eyes scanned the dining arena, her stomach churning at the sight of the meager rations. The air reeked of stale bread and sweat. She joined the line, trying to blend in.

As she waited, a frail woman beside her whispered, "New here?"

Vera nodded, avoiding eye contact.

"Be careful," the woman warned. "They're always looking for excuses to punish us."

Vera's grip on her bowl tightened. She knew.

The wordkeeper slammed the serving spoon onto the counter, making everyone jump. "Move! You're not here to socialize!"

When food was served, Vera could feel a few women and men's eyes set on her, as they whispered something to each other. Turning around with the food on her plate, she scanned the surroundings, searching for an empty spot to sit down, but it seemed almost everywhere was occupied.

Going to take a seat at one of the tables which had only two women, she heard one of them speak harshly to her;

“This is occupied. Find some other spot to sit your ugly ass.” Moving to another couple of spots, the same thing happened, and Vera was nearly frustrated. The men smiled at her, inviting her to sit with them, but they had an unabashed, suggestive look. Remembering and realizing that the slave world was a whole different world. If you want to survive, you have to be ruthless and cruel. With determination, she went back to the first spot she had seen.

“Are you deaf, bitch? I said this spot is taken!” the woman spoke again, her black eyes staring at Vera. “Find somewhere else to sit!”

“Whoever dropped her must have hit her head so hard that she can't understand simple English,” the woman next to her spoke, raising laughter among the other slaves who sat around them.

Not bothering with their chatter, Vera put her plate down and sat with them, not minding their expression of disbelief and shock.

Suddenly her food was pushed to the ground, splattering it to her side; “Didn't you hear what we said?” one of the women asked, and Vera looked up with a tired sigh. This created a scene, bringing everyone's attention to the drama that approached.
