Chapter 15 Her revenge

Chapter 15 Her revenge
TARA:
I couldn’t count how many times my heart had skipped.

“Do you want to stand at the door forever?” His corrosive voice came to my head. Mason stepped in lightly, and so did I.

Gosh, I badly wanted the ground to open up and swallow me. He wasn’t the only one in the room. There were like three other people; The condescending guy from yesterday, and two females, one bearing a smile and one with a hardened look. Although she looked like she was about to kill someone, she still looked very beautiful.

“Good morning, Alpha.” My head hung lowly but when he didn’t say anything, I gradually raised it. Speaking of embarrassing.

I noticed his eyes fell to the plate of food in my hand. I quickly hid it behind my back, my eyes focusing on how pretty the wooden ground was.

“Itching hands, I see.” He sighed and looked away from me.
“Hope you rested well.” He was scribbling something on a piece of paper.

“Yes, Alpha. Thank you very much.” I made a quick bow.

“If you bow so much, your head will fall off,” Mason whispered in my ear. I almost laughed hard but held myself.

“Good. Mason, move toward Rowan. You're a distraction.”

How did he know? He hadn’t even looked away from his paper. Reluctantly, he moved.

“You already know Mason. He’s my gamma.”

Really?! I thought he was just a driver. He waved at me and I nervously waved back. “I want you to avoid him if you want to stay focused on what you came here to do. Next is Rowan, my beta. The second in command whenever I'm not around.”
I gulped. He didn’t even look at me. His facial expression was giving angry and unwelcoming vibes. I didn't think I would be getting along with him anytime soon.

“These are Diana and Rose, female beta and gamma respectively.”
Rose… where have I heard that name before? Also, was frowning a thing with the betas?

I guess Mason would be the only person I would be talking to. And maybe Rose too, because she smiled at me.

“Rose will accompany you to the supermarket to get whatever’s necessary.” He handed a paper to Rose. “Only what's essential.” He said it like he was emphasizing the ‘essential'.

“Yes, Alpha.”

“Alpha, all this for a slave?!”
Diana, I think, objected. “She’s not worth this sum of money. Why not just gather up clothes people aren’t using and give them to her?”

She eyed me maliciously but I kept quiet. I had always been quiet when people verbally accused me, even during physical abuse.

“That’s none of your business, Diana. Are you questioning my decision?”

She quickly calmed down, her eyes on the floor.
“No, Alpha. I’m sorry for speaking out of turn.”

He glared hard at her. He wanted to say something but he stopped himself. I didn’t blame her though. She was right.
I was just a slave who was nothing useful and precious things shouldn’t be given to someone like that.
I knew all that but it still hurt my chest like a thousand needles.

“Eron will be here in a few hours. Diana, make sure he’s comfortable until the peace treaty.”
Peace treaty? Was the Alpha at war with everyone? I had heard from the maids at my former pack that he had come there for a peaceful resolution too.

And who’s Eron? I was just so confused.

“Yes, Alpha.”
After assigning duties to everyone, he regressed in his seat.

“That’s all for now. If there’s anything else, I’ll inform you. You may all leave.”
Everybody headed to the door and I followed suit, trying not to make my presence known.

“Except you, Tara.” He pointed out. I grimaced when he said that. Again, I would be left alone with him.
“Good luck,” Mason whispered and shut the door.

I turned and headed back to the desk, standing a few feet from it.
“Do you know why you're here?” He stood, pushing his seat back. It scrubbed against the wooden floor but the noise it made wasn’t loud.

“Yes, Alpha. For your revenge.” I had no idea what that meant but I still said it anyway.

“My revenge? Not at all,” He got to the front and leaned against the edge of the desk, folding his hands and looking me in the eye.

“Your revenge, Tara. All yours.”

“My revenge?” Normally, I would have broken eye contact but what he said kept me glued. What revenge was he talking about?

“You know, when I went to your former pack, I wasn’t expecting anything. I thought it would be as boring as the other peace treaties I had previously. But then, I saw you. A little girl who could burn the world with the fire in her eyes.

“You called Nolan for the fool he is. I liked that. Your death would have been a waste and so I decided to help you. Do you want it, Tara? Do you want to get stronger and make the whole of Red Moon bow at your feet for treating you unfairly?”

“Yes, Alpha.”

I didn’t hesitate. But the only people I wanted to hurt were Nolan and his lover. They had burned my soul in several ways. I wanted to make them feel the same heat.

“Good girl. I’ll let you know of any developments. But first, go shopping, settle down, and avoid Mason.”

Was the last part necessary?
A small smile touched my lips. The Alpha appeared to be the coldest person on earth. Well, technically, he still was. But he had a good side to him.

“Since you can’t keep your hands to yourself, you can join the maids to do whatever until I assign a position to you.” My eyes lit up with excitement.
“Thank you so much, Alpha.”

“Do you even know my name?” He hissed. I stiffened. Why was he asking?

“I do.” I nodded slowly.

“Pronounce it then.”

“I… uhm… Alpha… Alpha Lucian.” The name finally left my lips. It was too heavy to say. It held so much power.

“You’ve been looking at me funny since you came in. Did you have a sex dream about me?”
