Alpha Ashton's POV
Did I develop a new fetish?
This is just supposed to be about sex. At most, I should only be concerned whether she would survive being able to bear my heir.
After all, it's the reason she was brought here.
Amongst all the other humans in the cage that night, she was the chubbiest and most fitting. And the look in her eyes.
Defiant, yet shivering.
Somehow, I knew that she wouldn’t give me too much trouble.
Maybe I was wrong.
Granted, for that it was the only reason why I was staring in front of the screen that delivered feeds of her movement from every corner of the room.
And that included the bathrooms and closet.
I’d gotten them installed by myself without getting any of my subordinates involved from the moment she was declared missing.
For one, I couldn’t let anything get past me.
Even so, did I really need to watch the live feed directly?
I could review it later on.
Another question without answer, and that’s why I will just stick to the general answer.
I am the Alpha and can and will do whatever the fuck I want even though it involves watching a human sit on the toilet after overfeeding, or looking through her wardrobe to play dress-up.
All this while I could be looking through the documents submitted for development and preparing for the next meeting with the clan elders.
A glance at my reflection in the window showed me a smile on my face.
An unusual and very rare expression, yet one out of many that I have been forced to show thanks to the human in our midst.
At the thought of my strong unemotional front cracking, I am reminded once more of Kylanor.
His manipulative stance and how I couldn’t calm the inner demon in my heart.
This was a battle like every other, but the stakes were different. This was my last chance to hold onto the throne or lose it to him, and that’s why I needed to make a drastic decision to win this time.
I needed to get him as far away from the human as possible, because only then can I be certain that she would birth my heir and not his.
Only then can I be confident in the prophecy. After all, she was my last hope.
Every other monster beast from my clan, regardless of their high breed and pedigree, had died either during childbirth or as soon as the fetus started to form a heart.
It almost felt as if my seed growing drew out too much blood.
Another glance at the CCTV camera feed and my heart, that had calmed a bit, started to thud against my chest once more.
This human may be from another species, but she was weak and a lot smaller.
A snap of my fingers and she would be broken in half.
I rubbed my sweaty palms together and tried to hope and believe that she would gain strength before the mating auspicious period.
“Knock knock.”
I didn’t wait for the second knock to land on the door before I cleared up every trace of the feed and turned on a blank window on my monitor.
“Knock knock.” Another set of knocks while I flipped through a paper casually and calmed my breathing.
I could tell the third one was about to land when I asked,
“Kno…”
“Come in,” I said regally.
“Your Highness,” the clan’s Beta who had served my father greeted with a bow as he came in with his aide.
His aide started to speak as the loud gong and wall clock at the door struck 9 in tandem.
I was in a daze for a moment but the moment I recovered, his aide was already turning around.
“I’ll take my leave now and come back when it’s time,” he said and I nodded without paying him any heed.
After all, I’d barely heard a word of what he said and calling him back wouldn’t be a royal thing to do.
“Beta Samra,” I called and spared him a look before returning to my screen.
He cleared his throat then took a seat while we both waited in silence.
This was a game we played often. Way too often. I always wondered why.
He’d make us do the staring contest in silence. After all, I wasn’t a kid anymore.
However, I was still someone who didn’t like to lose, so I stared.
Hard.
A smirk curled at the edge of my lips as I watched him intently, waiting for him to break.
At first glance, he looked like he wouldn’t give in. However, soon enough — after a full-blown minute — I noticed the twitching at the corner of his left eye. The one with the scar.
And I relaxed, letting my shoulders fall into the leather of my seat.
At the moment that the back of my neck sunk into the warm leather, he smirked.
My eyebrows creased in a frown.
“What’s funny?” I asked as my own smile started to falter.
“You’ve lost.”
“How?” I shot up in my seat. “I didn’t even blink.”
“Well, you just did,” he said, and I realized that his eyes were getting drier but he remained unshaken.
“Well, that’s because you said you’d lost and I…” I trailed away as I realized what he had just done.
“You tricked me!”
