Familiar stranger

Scarlett

" Are you alright?" Aurora asked as soon as she came in, bringing me out of my thoughts.

" Huh, oh… um…. Yes," I said, not knowing what else to say.

" what is happening?" I asked, turning my head towards the window.

" oh, that…. Umm…. She trailed off as if she was hiding something from me.

" Come on, we need to go somewhere," she said, rushing to my side before she made me stand up by grabbing my shoulders.

" Wait, what? Where?" I asked in confusion.

She pushed me towards the door beside the closet as she opened the door a loud ear piercing scream caught our attention. We both froze at our spots and turned around as we looked at the window.

" what is happening, aurora?" I asked in a hush voice.

" They…… Her words died down in her throat when a large grey wolf with black patches on his back jumped on the balcony. His eyes scanned inside before he fixed his eyes on us snarling and showing his long, sharp teeths. From his look he didn't look friendly and I knew he was here to kill us or me.

" Scarlett the door," Aurora whispered as I was the one who was standing closer to the door. I darted my gaze from him to the knob before grabbing her hand.

The wolf growled loudly, and my hand immediately went on the knob. He took two steps towards the room before running towards us.

I turned the knob and pulled her in. I pushed the door from the inside but it was too late to close it as the wolf attacked the door in his full strength.

" No!!!" I screamed. Aurora came beside me and pushed the door with all her might to close it, but he was too strong for us to handle.

" the lock," she growled and pushed it one last time, closing the door. I locked the door but he didn't stop. He kept on banging the door to lose it from its hinges.

And it stopped suddenly as everything became quiet. We looked at the door before looking at each other. I could hear my own heart beat.

" Did he leave?" I whispered. I screamed when we heard a growl followed by a hit. The door shook violently and then it stopped again. But we could hear the noises of fighting outside.

" Luke is here," she said.

I looked at the closed door in fear. I knew they were fighting with each other and Luke is strong but I couldn't help the worry that rose in my heart.

“ Don't worry, he is a king,” aurora said as she held my hand tightly in hers.

I am worried. How can I not, when I know what was happening outside? I wanted to say that I couldn't speak, all of my words died down in my throat.

And then everything stopped there's nothing, no growling, no shouting and yelling, nothing. I could hear both of us breathing.

“ Aurora,” I said in a hushed voice.

“ hmmm,”

“ Stay here. I am gonna go out and check,” she said as she left my hand.

“ Don't,” I said, grabbing her hand as I shook my head.

“ I have to. I need to look,” she said.

“ Please, I am coming with you,” I said. She looked ate for a few moments before she nodded her head.

With a click she unlocked the door and swung the door open. My heart was beating faster as I was taking ginger steps into the room. My heat was on its peak but due to the horror and fear it has become bearable.

“ No!!!” A heart wrenching scream left my mouth, looking at Luke who was laying in a pool of blood unconsciously. I ran towards him before I fell on my knees.

“ No, please,” I said as I shook his body to wake him up. Tears were running down freely from my eyes seeing him like this.

“ Aurora, do something,” I said to her and turned my head to look at her. She looked stunned and if like she couldn't believe her eyes.

“ Aurora,” I cried out. She looked at me as got out of her trance.

Clenching her fists, she called for help through the link.

Within a few seconds I could hear the sound of doorsteps until they all entered the room. I sat there on the floor and saw them lifting his body before they laid him down on the bed. Then I looked at my bloodied hands and everything faded away. I wasn't aware of what was happening around me or how long I sat there looking at his blood until someone shook my shoulder.

“ Scarlett,” it was Amelia, Luke's mother.

I turned my head to see her worried face. My vision was blurry but I recognised her.

“ Dear, come with me,” she said as she extended her hand to help me. I didn't know what to say to her, I didn't even have the energy to move my body.

“ Luke,” all I could say was his name.

“ He is out of danger now,” she said. I let out a breath of relief.

“ Come on, you need to rest before he wakes up,” she said.

“ No, I am not going anywhere,” I said, shaking my head.

“ scarlett.”

“ I insist, mother,” I said. She looked taken aback by my words and I didn't know why I called her that but I felt the warmth of a mother from her. A smile spread on her lips and I couldn't tell whether it was a smile of sadness or joy.

“ Very well, but wash yourself first and then eat something. Aurora will be here in a few minutes,” she said.

“ Thank you.”

“ Don't ever say that word again,” she said in a warning tone. I stared at her in confusion as I wasn't aware of what I did wrong.

“ If you call me mother and then say ‘thank you’ then don't call me that again,” she said.

“ I won't,” I said, smiling at her.

“ Ummm,” my head snapped at the groaning sound.

“ Call us if you need anything,” she said before she walked out of the room. Gathering my energy I stood up before I dragged my numb body towards the bed where Luke was healing.

Walking close to the bed I saw his eyes were still closed which means he is still unconscious. I sighed and turned around.

Gasping, I jumped back clutching my chest as it was beating like a drum when my eyes fell on the figure that was standing in front of the closet.

I staggered backwards, hitting the bed as I fell on the mattress. My eyes never left the tall towering figure that was strolling towards me in slow and steady steps. I wanted to scream but nothing came out of my mouth.

Tears rolled down from my eyes when the light fell on his face.
