I was sleeping peacefully until I heard Scarlett groaning. My eyes flew open immediately to check on her. All of my nerves went on high alert as I looked at her still closed eyes.

She is sleeping and she is having a nightmare. Her brows were knitted together as beads of sweat formed on her forehead.

" Baby?" I said in a hushed voice not wanting to wake her up as it was still dark outside.

As soon as I touched the back of her hand which she was using to clutch the sheet tightly she grabbed my hand immediately.

" shhhh," I coed her.

" I am here," I said, gently running my fingers through her hair. She seemed like she was calming down a bit, but she was mumbling something. I moved closer to her mouth to listen to what she was saying.

" monroe!!!" The hairs on my back stood up as I was stiffened by the words that just fell from her mouth.

" how does she know him?" I asked myself in disbelief. She is a human and didn't know about our existence till she met me, then how does she know someone as Monroe? I thought. It is impossible for her to know him, then how? She relaxed under my touch and I stared at her face for a good few seconds before I rolled back on the mattress.

" Hunter," I said knowing that we weren't going back to sleep anymore.

" yes."

" What do we do now?" I asked.

" We can't ask her. And I don't think she knows him. I think there is something we missed," he said.

" I think we need to check her background again," I said.

I turned right and saw my mate's sleeping face. She looks peaceful now.

I didn't know how long I spent staring at her face until Alex linked me.

" Alpha, are we going to train today?" He asked. With a sign, I finally turned my head and looked at the ceiling as I massage my temple.

" Yes," I said shortly.

" Alex, send Benjamin here to guard my room while I am away. And meet me in the library in 5 minutes," I said and sat up on the bed.

" Yes, alpha," he said.

I got out of the bed and went to the closet. I quickly wore my shorts and a t-shirt before coming out. I glanced at the curling figure on my bed before walking out of the door.

" It is becoming more and more complicated," I muttered under my breath, walking through the hallway I reached the library. Pushing the door open, I went in to see Alex was already waiting for me there.

" Alpha," he said and stood up. He was tense. Raising my one eyebrow I walked to the couch where he was sitting earlier.

" What happened?" I asked, sitting down and leaning back. I knew something was wrong from the way he was behaving.

" Who is she?" He asked out of nowhere.

" Who?"

" Scarlett. Your mate and our Luna. Who is she?" He asked again. I controlled my rage at his words as I didn't know why he was asking such a question.

" Are you sure…… she is your mate?" He asked, still standing frozen in his spot. He looks as if he had a nightmare.

" Tell me what happened, don't beat around the bush," I said, my voice cold and demanding. He bared his neck to show submission as my alpha tone slipped when I was talking with him. Beads of sweat can be seen on his forehead too. He looked confused and troubled.

" Sit down, Alex. Tell me clearly," I said lowering my voice.

With a sigh he sat down and looked at the ground as he fidgeted with his fingers. I could hear his heartbeat from here.

" Someone called in your office," he started. I stayed quiet and waited for him to continue.

" she was asking for Scarlett," he said.

" she?" I asked myself more than him.

" She told me to give you a massage."

" What massage?" I asked.

" don't mark Scarlett and let her go. She will pay the money you gave her father. She asked you to let her go to human territory," he said. I clenched my fist and took a sharp breath closing my eyes.

" she threatened to take her away and kill more of our people if we didn't listen to her," he added.

" This is getting out of hand," I said, slamming my hand on the armrest before standing up.

" Luke," Alex said, looking up at me. His eyes showed pain.

" Is she really your mate?" He asked.

" Yes, Alex. She is my mate. Me and my wolf both recognise her. He already marked her scent and it won't take any long until she starts to transform," I said. After listening to me he only nods his head.

" Why do you ask?" I asked.

" Because the price we are paying and going to pay is much bigger than we have ever imagined," he said. Pain and sympathy was visible in his eyes.

" We lost 106 members of our kingdom," he said.

" what?" I asked if my voice was booming inside of the library. Good that it was sound proof or else Scarlett would have woken up.

" including children and two of our elders," he added.

" how?" I asked, rage was cursing through me and all I could think of ripping the head of the culprits who did this.

" We don't know but all of their bodies were kept in the clearing of the forest by the lake," he said.

" Who moved them?" I asked through gritted teeth pacing back and forth.

" no. They were already there when our patrolling guards saw them," he answered. I turned on my heels and squirted out of the room. Alex followed me knowing where I was going.

Reaching outside I saw the sun still hasn't come up. Walking towards the forest I picked up my pace. As I got nearer to the lake the strong smell of blood hit my nostrils mixed with some other things.

I took a deep breath reaching the spot and I knew one of the smells was a potion which means they used a witch.

I felt like someone squeezed my heart looking at the bodies that were wrapped in white clothes. But what pains me the most was looking at the small ones.

A lump formed Iny throat looking at a mother who just sat down beside a small body. She looked like she had lost the whole world but she wasn't crying.

She picked up the body in her arms and moved it closer to her chest before placing a lingering kiss on his forehead. I was taken aback when she looked up. Because she was Susan and she doesn't have any children. She is an omega.

She looked up at me as she wanted to say something. What I saw in her eyes was pure rage. She looked so strong at this moment.

" I want the head of the person who did this," he voice boomed in my head. For a second my eyes went wide as to how she was able to mind link me.

" We don't know who did this," I said back.

" I know," she said and then looked at the body in her arms lovingly.

" Make preparations for the funeral," I said to the guards and the family members of the deceased members.

When I was about to search for Susan, a strange thing happened and I was hit by a strong scent. For a moment I felt dizzy and when everything cleared out I felt thirsty but not for water or something else.

Hunter was clawing to get out as I turned around and ran towards the palace. I felt like my whole body was on fire. As soon as I reached the front door I saw there were a few guards standing in the way. Narrowing my eyes at them, I surged forward.

" Alpha," they all said in unison as they bowed their heads. But they didn't budge from their spots.

" We were ordered by the former Queen not to let you in," one of them said.

A thunderous growl ripped through my chest making the door shake from their hinges. They looked at each other before giving me access to the palace.
