Luke

" Your timing is horrible," I said to Alex who tried to hide his chuckle but failed miserably.

" I didn't know that you guys were…… his words died down when a low growl rumbled in my chest.

" Sorry," he apologised.

" It's ok. I am frustrated. I don't know where I should start? She still doesn't know that she is my mate and what mate is," I said walking through the hallway that leads to my office.

" then explain everything to her," he suggested.

" like I didn't think about it. I know I have to explain this to her but I don't know how she would take all this. And then hunter he has gone wild after knowing that she is our mate. He demanded to mate and mark her," I explained.

" I don't see any problem here," he said with a confused look on his face. Looking at him in disbelief, I pushed the door of my office open and got in. How have I got so lucky to have him as my beta? I thought in my head. He followed me in, waiting for my answer.

I walked around the oak table and took my seat with a sigh.

" She is a human, Alex. She just turned 18. I am way older than her, i don't think she will accept me," i said, leaning my head in the back of the chair while pinching the bridge of my nose.

" then go with the flow. Let her fall with you. The mate bond will help you. Even if she is a human she won't be able to resist the bond," he said.

" Let's just hope she accepts me," I said with a sad smile.

" Now, why is someone sending letters to my mate when there's no one to take care of her?" I asked, narrowing my eyes at alex. As far as i could remember she really doesn't have any one who could care for her since her biological father sold her off for money.

" I don't know but, her name was on the letter," he said, sliding the envelope towards me.

I looked at him before looking at the paper before I picked it up and opened it. It read,

" I am coming for her, to keep her safe and intact, alpha. You and your enemy both won't be able to stop me."

I crumpled the paper and threw it into the dustbin.

" where did you find it?" I asked, slamming the table hard. Hunter was at the verge of breaking out after reading the content in that letter and I knew better than anyone else that if I let him lose he would go crazy.

" Calm down, luke. We are not sure here what we are going to deal with," Alex said, sending my anger.

" It is my fu*king mate, Alex. You know how much i waited for her and know this m*ther f**ker is coming to snatch her away from me?" I asked him in pure rage.

" Luke, you need to think with your head and not with your heart. Scarlett is a human being and whoever sent this here is clearly not a human and she knows about her and also about you," he said, i knew his theory has a point but all I care right now is her safety.

" If this person knows about you then he or she is well aware of the danger that comes from provoking you. It is not that simple. Scarlett….." he paused as if he was lost in deep thoughts.

" She is mysterious," he finally breathed out.

" How does this letter appear here?" I asked. I know he is right and I have to think this straight.

" a little boy gave this to one of our patrolling guards at the border," he answered.

" and?"

" and he gave this to me."

" He didn't even think about bringing that boy here? He didn't even follow him?" I asked in disbelief. Alex's eyes widened for a moment before he looked at the ground with realisation.

" there's another thing," he said, raising his head.

" what?" I growled out in frustration. The fire I was feeling inside of me was growing with Every passing second and there's only one way to calm myself down which is my mate, her scent and her touch.

" Vladimir."

" he asked to have a meeting with you," he said.

" I am really gonna kill him, luke. Vampire lord or not he is getting on my nerves," hunter said with a loud growl. And I couldn't agree more with him.

" He says it is about his mate and Scarlett," my body stiffened hearing his words.

" what?" I asked and he shrugged.

I don't know if what I was thinking was real or not. But it is not entirely unheard of, when a person has two or three mates. Thinking of him with Scarlett was enough to make me go on a rampage.

" arrange that meeting and do not distribute me with anything," I said, standing up from the chair and walking around the table.

" Let Max come here and you both check the files," I said before storming out of the room. I would be damned if I let anyone lay a finger on her let alone take her away from me.

Walking through the hallway my mind was racing with countless thoughts.

" luke," Evelyn said, humping into me with a gasp.

I looked at her and the way she was coming from. I didn't notice that I was already standing a few feet away from my room and Scarlett was there.

" oh, umm, I was looking for you," she said. But her tone was not believable at all.

" liar," Hunter said with scoff.

" What were you doing in my room?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at her while folding my arms in front of my chest.

" I told you I was looking for you," she said again, moving closer to me.

" Look Evelyn, I know that we were supposed to mate and you were supposed to be my Luna but now that I found my mate, I am not going to leave her," I said, looking at her gauging her reaction but she stayed calm and composed.

" Human or not, she is my father's mate and I accepted her. I am asking to move on. Maybe someday you will find your mate and you will know the feeling," I said, unfolding my arms.

" I know, Luke. And I don't blame you for finding your fated mate. She is a sweet girl and I like her," he said, coming closer to me till our breath mingles.

In the past we hooked up a couple of times but I don't have any feelings or attachment for Evelyn. And since I found Scarlett, all I want to do is be with her. She rubbed my arms soothingly and gave me a small sad smile.

" I will miss the time when we were together and honestly I never thought about having a mate since the council has announced our arrangement," she said and a lone tear rolled down from her cheek. I decided to keep quiet and let her speak her heart out cause after this I hope she truly forgets about our arrangement.

" I don't think I will ever forget you," she said and closed the gap between us. As soon as she leaned towards me, I stopped her by holding her arms, knowing what she was trying to do.

" Please, Luke," she pleaded. Moving forward, she pressed her lips on mine and I let her. But I didn't kiss her back. Evelyn moved back looking at me in disbelief.

" Bye, Luke. Take good care of her, she is fragile," she said and walked past me. I didn't bother to look back as I walked towards the door where my mate's scent was strong enough to stir my emotions like a whirlwind.

I gently pushed the door open and stood frozen in my spot as my blood ran South.. Scarlett didn't see me as her back was facing and she was busy looking out of the French window standing in the Middle of the room wearing one of my black shirts that reached her thighs.

Her long white slender legs were bare. I didn't know I would ever be tested with my self control like this and on top of that her intoxicating scent wasn't helping at all.
