Chapter 19

Luke

I was talking with the alpha of the neighbouring pack when I felt a presence. The hair on the back of my head stood. Turning around, I looked up and saw Scarlett was standing on the top of the stairs with Jenna and Aurora.

I felt like someone had punched the air out of me as my breath caught in my throat.

" Gosh," Hunter said in my head, coming forward to look at her.

" She is stunning," I said.

My eyes roamed on her body, taking every detail in. The black dress hugged every curve on her body like the dress was made just for her. The slit in her dress exposed her slender milky white leg, making my pants a little uncomfortable. Looking up into her eyes, our gaze was fixed.

I saw her descending from the stairs, breaking eye contact with me. The commotion in the room died down as she went down.

" Hello, brother," Aurora said, hiding her smirk. I know she is the one who chose her dress and I don't blame her for that. Scarlett looked gorgeous, but at the same time I didn't want anyone to look at her like me.

" Who is this pretty lady, princess," David asked the aurora. David is the alpha of a neighbouring pack and a very good friend of mine.

" Oh, he is a friend of mine," she answered.

" A human," Vladimir said, as he walked behind me. My jaw tickled hearing the taunt in his voice.

" Yes, a human. She is precious unlike anyone else," Aurora said, answering him. I felt kinda proud of my sister and at her sassy answer.

" Hello, sweetheart," he said, as he wanted to take Scarlettsl's hand.

" Aurora, shall we have a drink?" Scarlett asked Aurora as she slightly turned around, ignoring Vladimir politely.

" Umm, bad luck, I guess," he said, turning around and leaving us.

Scarlett gave me a small smile before going away with Aurora and Jenna. Looking at her retreating back made me feel sad as I wanted to spend some time with her.

" Stay by her side and don't let her wander alone," I said to Aurora through the link.

" Got it," she replied.

" Is she the one?" David asked, grabbing my attention.

" Who?"

" The human you are taking as your chosen mate," he explained.

" Who told you that?" I asked.

" Believe me alpha, rumours spread like a wildfire and we are talking about our king here," he said.

" I guess it is not a secret anymore," I said with a sigh.

" Yes, I am taking her as my mate," I confessed.

He went quiet and didn't utter a word for a moment before he excused himself and joined other Alpha's.

I scanned through the hall to look for her and when my eyes finally fell on her, my heart swelled up to see her smiling with Jenna and my sister.

" Don't stand here and stare at her like a hawk," Hunter growled in my head with impatience.

" Go talk to her to make her comfortable," he added.

" She is already comfortable," I said to him, rolling my eyes.

" Let me talk to her then," he said. I knew I couldn't do that because if I let him take control he would do something and we all would all regret it later.

I made my way towards her, my eyes were all over her as I felt hot, as if the temperature was rising.

" You are looking beautiful tonight," I said, awkwardly. This is my first time complimenting someone and I believe I am ruining it. Everyone around us stopped talking just to witness our conversation.

" Thank you, Luke," she said and a round of gasps could be heard around us as she called me by my first name. From the corner of my eyes I looked at Aurora and she looked quite proud of herself.

" You look handsome as well," she said, with a deep red shade of blush lowering her gaze. She was unaware of what was happening around her and I like it that way.

She finally looked up and met my eyes. I was already holding back as much as I could buy man oh man when she bit down on her lower lips, I felt all the blood in my body rushing down to the south.

" Would you like to dance with me?" I asked. Watching her eyes go wide before she nods her head.

" Alpha, the council members were calling for you," Alex said through the link.

" Take them to my office, I will be there," I said, and looked at Scarlett who was having a confused look on her face.

" I will be right back, scar," I said and looked at Aurora, who didn't need to tell her what to do. Looking at me, she nodded her head.

Turning around, I walked to my office at a fast pace and a string of curses left my mouth, knowing why they were asking for my presence. I wanted to get back to her as soon as possible.

" Alpha," Alex said as soon as I entered my office.

" What is it?" I asked.

" You should be enjoying yourselves out there," I said, trying to be calm.

" We have heard that you are going to her as your queen and Luna?" One of them said, Here we go again. I just can't seem to get out of this question any time soon now. Walking into the room and moving closer to him, I saw from the corner of my eyes a figure standing in the dark.

" Yes. You heard right," I said, my voice was low but louder enough for them to hear.

" But let me tell you something. If I hear one disrespectful sentence against her, believe me or not, I will gut them with my bare hands,"I said, threatening all of them.

" Are you threatening us?" Another one said.

" Yes,"

" Do not repeat , do not interfere in my personal life," I said with a warning in my tone.

" What about Evelyn?" The witch asked.

" I will deal with that," I said.

" No, we want answers right now. We were there when the decision was made to make her your Luna and queen and now that you have found someone, you are breaking the promise," she added.

" We all know that you are the alpha of all Alpha's and we all ought to respect you. But don't forget the law here."

" She is a human above all. We can't let that happen. Either you let her go and erase her memories or she will be executed or we have another salutation….. she trailed off looking into my eyes wickedly.

" Or you can hand her over to Vladimir, who I suppose will take very good care of her," she added. A thunderous growl ripped from my throat, giving the room an unearthly shriek.

Hunter was clawing inside of my head waiting to come out and lunged at her.

" That's what I thought, either you take Evelyn as your Luna and queen or you can decide after all you are wise," she said.

" I would suggest you take Evelyn as a Luna and keep that human to play," she said before vanishing into thin air.

" You don't want to start a war now, think twice before you do anything," one of the elders from the council said before they all went out one by one.

" Alpha," Alex said, as he patted my shoulder before going out.

" I told you, things aren't as simple as you think," my father said, coming out of the dark. He waited for a few moments before going out.

" What should we do now, hunter?" I asked.

" I don't know, Luke. But I won't be able to stay away from her but we both know the law and we did act according to it a few years back," he said, reminding me of the incident that had happened with an alpha.

" I won't be able to let her go, let alone wipe her memories," I mumbled.

" We will see after the ball," Hunter suggested.

Walking out of my office, I made my way through the crowd to where Scarlet was, but reaching there, I couldn't find her. I looked around the hall before I looked at the aurora.

" Where are you guys?" I asked.

" We are dancing," she replied immediately, but sounded more drunk.

I walked across the hall where young shifters were dancing and looked for Scarlett. I couldn't find her until my eyes fell on a couple sitting at the bar. Scarlett looked happy and carefree with that person. She was laughing, looking at her. A smile made its way onto my lips, but the moment I saw the face of that person sitting next to her my mood turned sour.

" Vladimir." Hunter growled loudly in my head.

Rage erupted inside of me like lava. And then I saw him asking her for a dance.

" Luke, babe," Evelyn said, coming closer to me.

" What are you looking at?" She asked, her hand was all over me as she moved closer to my ears.

" Who is that?" She asked. I turned my head and looked at her as she was looking at Scarlett.

" She is gorgeous," she added. I didn't say anything to her and watched Vladimir taking Scarlett to the dance floor.

Placing his one hand on his waist, he pulled her closer to his chest as she put her hand on his shoulder. They started to move in sync with each other. Looking at them from afar, they looked like a happy couple, lost in their own worlds. Jealousy had the best of me as I took Evelyn by her waist and led her to the dance floor. My eyes were watching them.

" Wooaa," Evelyn gasped when I pulled her closer. We started to move to music. I moved us to where they were dancing.

" Luke," Evelyn's voice put me out of my trance and I looked at her.

" When are you going to announce me as your Luna?" She asked genuinely. Looking into her eyes, I didn't know what to say to her or how I should explain the situation.

" You know it's time and everyone is waiting. I am waiting for you, Luke," she said.

" Alpha, Scarlett had wine," Jenna's voice came through the link, making me go stiff.

" What?"

" I am sorry alpha. I went to the kitchen to look for the cake we prepared for her to celebrate her birthday and when i came out Aurora was already tipsy but she is alright now and she told me that Scarlett had wine," she added.

" Fu*k,"I cursed loudly. No wonder she was being friendly with that sucker, I thought.

" What?" Evelyn asked.

I almost forgot that it was my birthday. Looking at the oversized clock, I saw there were only 10 minutes left until the clock hit 12. I began to search for her frantically but failed as she was nowhere to be seen.

" What happened, luke?" Evelyn asked.

" Nothing."

" I will be right back, Evelyn," I said to her and kissed her on the back of her hand, making her happy so that she wouldn't follow me around.

" Alex, find a scar," I ordered before storming away from there. My beast was going crazy thinking about Scarlett.

" What if Vladimir….. I cut the hunter off.

" No," I said.
