Chapter 71 Eva's acceptance. Rafael's assurance.
Author's POV,

Eva felt as if the ground beneath her feet had completely disappeared.

“What?” she whispered in shock. “But… why?”

Abram’s face turned cold, all softness gone.

“Because his father betrayed us in business,” he said. “And his uncle killed our aunt.”

Eva slowly shook her head, like she couldn’t accept what she was hearing.

“But… for that… you killed twenty-three people?” Her voice trembled, full of shock. Abram let out a breath, clearly annoyed.

“We only wanted to kill Rafael and his father,” he said. “That was the plan.”

He paused, his eyes growing darker, his voice losing even the little warmth it had.

“But when we went there… they were having a family gathering.” The room fell into deep silence. Eva could almost imagine it a house full of people, laughter, voices, life… and then suddenly, nothing.

“So,” Abram continued without any guilt, “we had to kill them all.” Eva felt like the ground under her feet had disappeared.

“Is this true?” she asked, turning to Robert. He stayed silent, his face unreadable.

Daddy…” Her voice broke, desperation creeping in. “Please answer me. Is it true?”

Nothing. The silence said everything. Her chest tightened painfully as the truth sank in, cold and merciless.

“YOUR SILENCE IS ANSWERING ME!” she screamed, her voice echoing through the room. “And if it is true, then WHY DID YOU DO IT? You could have handed Rafael’s uncle to the police! Why would you do something like this?!”

“Eva~” Robert began, but she didn’t let him finish.

Tears blurred her vision as she stepped closer to him, her hands trembling..

But she didn’t stop.

“You had no option?” she said, stepping closer to him. “Why did you want to kill Rafael? He was just seventeen! Seventeen!”

Her voice cracked as tears rolled down her face.

“Why did you put him in jail for thirteen years? What about his life? His dreams? You took everything from him!”

Her chest hurt as she spoke, like every word was cutting her from inside.

“You ruined him,” she said, her voice breaking. “You ruined his sister too! Do you even know what she went through?”

She wiped her tears angrily, but they kept falling.

“And here I was… fighting him for you,” she said. “For all of you.” She gave a small, bitter laugh. “I trusted you. I believed in you.”

Her eyes turned cold.

“But you… you are monsters.”

“Eva,” Abram called her, his voice sharp now.

“Shut up!” she snapped, turning toward him. “Don’t call my name. I hate you. I hate all of you!”

She didn’t wait and walked out of the room, her steps fast and unsteady.

The moment she stepped outside, her tears started falling faster. She couldn’t stop them. Her chest felt tight, her breath uneven, like she was breaking apart.

“Eva… don’t react like this because of your mood swings.”

Abram’s voice came from behind, calm and careless.

She stopped.

Slowly, she turned around.

“What did you just say?” she asked quietly, her voice dangerously low.

Abram stood there like nothing was wrong. “Don’t overreact. This happens in rivalry.”

Eva stared at him, shocked. Then a broken laugh left her lips.

“Rivalry?” she repeated. “Killing people? Hurting them? Destroying lives?” Her eyes filled with anger. “And marrying your sister like she’s some object… is that also part of rivalry?”

Abram stepped closer, trying to calm her.

“Eva, try to understand. We didn’t mean to kill everyone. It just… happened.”

“Stay away from me,” she said, moving back, her voice shaking with anger and pain.

She turned and walked toward the main door, her hands clenched tightly.

“Where are you going, Eva?” Abram asked.

She didn’t stop. Not even for a second.

“Where I belong,” she said.

And with that, she walked out of the mansion.. leaving behind not just the house, but the people she once called her family, and the truth she could never accept again.

—--

Rafael was attending a meeting in his company. He was hearing his secretary's speech. That's when his phone which was on the table buzzed and a light appeared on the screen. His gaze immediately went to the screen.

“ Eva”

Her name popped on the screen. It was a message. He immediately checked it.

“ Where are you?” This was her message.

“ In the office,” he typed.

“ Which branch? “ He got the reply. He raised his one eyebrow feeling the suspicion.

“ South Ex, what happened?” He asked.

“ Nothing. I am just not feeling well. So I want to visit you,” he got the reply and reading it he smiled.

“ Okay. Get your driver and come to me,” He typed and sent.

“ I am on my way,” he read the text. He wanted to smile brightly but suppressed it due to his ongoing meeting.

After some 30 minutes, his meeting overed so he walked out of the meeting. He checked his phone, there was no message of Eva. That's when his PA came to him.

“ Boss, our next meeting is at 4 PM,” the secretary said.

“ Did my wife come?” Rafael asked without paying attention to any other things.

“ Yes, she is waiting in your office,” That's it. That's what he wanted to know.

“ Postponed all the meetings for the next 4 hours. I have some important work with my wife,” saying that he walked to the lift of the company. Some people approached him, he talked to them nicely but didn't let them distract himself from meeting his woman.

Meanwhile Eva was sitting on a chair. There was a photo frame in front of her in which Rafael and his all cousins were there. He was holding Laila from behind. All looked happy. She continued staring at that photo frame.

“ How could her own family kill twenty-thrre members of a family?” She thought to herself.

“ That must be traumatizing for each member of the family who are alive now,”

“ That's why their behaviour was odd with me at the starting of the marriage,”

So many thoughts were crossing through her mind. That's when the door of the office opened. She turned around to check. It was Rafael. And all her thoughts stopped in her mind.

“ Eva,” he said and she stood up.

“ Rafael,” she called his name softly. Rafael looked at her from head to toe. She was dressed in a beautiful miny red frock.

“ What happened?” He asked. She walked to him and he also came closer to her. She didn't say anything and just stared into his eyes.

“ Eva?” He again called her name softly.

“ Who am I to you?” she asked. Finally saying something.

“ What?” He asked.

“ Who am I to you?” She repeated.

“ My wife,” he answered and that's what Eva wanted to hear. She immediately stood on her tip toe and kissed him.
