Chapter 58 Baby Day Out
Chapter 58 Baby Day Out
Author's POV,
“Hmm… this is really good,” Eva said softly, enjoying every bite of the food. She looked very happy, almost lost in the taste.
Rafael sat across from her, his plate untouched. He was staring at her quietly, as if she were something new and strange to him. Eva noticed his look and raised her head.
“What happened?” she asked, chewing. “You should eat your share too,” she said, her words slightly unclear because her mouth was full.
“No. You eat,” Rafael replied.
Eva nodded and continued eating. Rafael leaned back in his chair, watching her. This was the first time he had seen her eat like this.. fast and with so much interest, as if she had been hungry for a long time. The thought made his chest feel a little heavy.
After a while, Eva wiped her lips and looked at him again. “Can you order some dessert for me?” she asked gently.
Rafael smiled. “Yes, of course.” He raised his hand, and a waitress came over.
“Yes, sir?” she asked.
Rafael looked at Eva. “Which dessert do you want?”
“Chocolate,” Eva answered quickly.
“Chocolate,” Rafael repeated.
“No… caramel,” Eva corrected herself.
Rafael smiled. “Okay. Caramel.”
“Alright, sir. It will be ready soon,” the waitress said and walked away.
Rafael turned back to Eva. “Do you like caramel?”
Eva shook her head. “No.”
“Then why did you choose it today?” he asked.
“Because I want to eat,” she replied simply.
Rafael laughed softly. “Alright. Eat. Eat whatever you want.”
Eva smiled, her eyes shining. “Thank you,” she said quietly and went back to her food.
Rafael watched her again, but this time his look was gentle. Seeing her happy over something so small made him feel calm. For the first time, the dinner felt warm… not because of the food, but because of the quiet moment they were sharing.
“Keep that in the car,” Rafael told his bodyguard.
The bodyguard nodded and walked toward the car, carrying the takeout Eva had ordered.
“Done?” Rafael asked.
Eva nodded. “Yes. Let’s go.”
Rafael held her hand and walked with her out of the restaurant. Outside, his bodyguards were already standing around the car, watching the area carefully.
Rafael opened the car door for her. Eva got inside quietly. After closing the door for her, Rafael walked around the car and sat beside her.
“Thank you, Rafael,” Eva said softly.
Rafael did not answer with words. Instead, he pulled her gently into his arms. Eva rested her head against his chest.
“Do you want anything else?” he asked.
Eva thought for a moment. “Can we go on a long drive?” she asked.
“Yes, we can,” Rafael replied.
The driver started the engine and the car slowly moved away from the restaurant.
“Aren’t you tired?” Eva asked while looking at him.
“No,” Rafael answered and placed a soft kiss on the top of her head.
“Why?” she asked.
“Because it’s not tiring,” he replied calmly. Then he looked at the driver. “Don’t take us to the mansion. Just keep driving. The car should not stop until I say so.”
“Okay, boss,” the driver replied.
The car moved through the quiet streets while the city lights passed by the windows.
“How is Rina? Are you still talking to her?” she asked.
“She is fine,” Rafael replied. “Her wound is healing.”
Eva nodded slowly.
“It was good that we dropped Laila at the airport,” she said. “She escaped all this chaos.”
As soon as she said that, Eva felt Rafael’s body become stiff beside her.
“Let’s not discuss this right now,” Rafael said quietly.
Eva nodded. “Okay. Let’s not discuss it.”
Silence filled the car for a while. The soft sound of the engine and the passing city lights were the only things around them. Rafael leaned his head back against the seat and closed his eyes to rest.
After a few minutes, Eva spoke again.
“Rafael?” she called softly.
“Hm?” he hummed, opening his eyes a little.
“Do I need to stop studying?” she asked slowly.
Rafael turned his head and looked at her seriously.
“Can you manage yourself along with your studies?” he asked.
Eva thought for a moment. “I can try,” she replied.
Rafael frowned slightly. “Not try,” he said firmly. “I don’t want to lose the child. If you can’t handle the stress… I don’t even want you to feel stressed because of your studies and lose my child.”
His voice became colder and more serious.
“If you want, I can buy your degree, Eva. It’s not a big deal,” he added.
Eva stayed silent for a moment. She looked down at her hands before speaking again.
“Trust me,” she said softly. “I can manage everything, Rafael.”
She looked up at him.
“My degree is important to me,” she added.
Rafael watched her quietly.
“I will not lose our child,” Eva murmured. “I promise.”
Rafael took a slow breath.
“Okay,” he finally said. “I will think about your degree when our life gets back to normal and we return to Milan.”
Eva sighed quietly. She leaned back against the seat and turned her head toward the window. The city lights passed by as the car continued moving through the streets.
Suddenly, something caught her attention.
Her eyes widened a little when she saw a small ice cream parlor beside the road.
Excited, she immediately turned toward Rafael and gently shook his arm.
“Rafael?”
He opened his eyes again and looked at her. “What is it?”
“I want to eat ice cream,” Eva said with a small smile.
Rafael raised an eyebrow slightly. “Where did you see the shop?”
He looked outside the window, trying to find it.
“There,” Eva said quickly, pointing toward the direction they had just passed.
“ Driver, take an u turn,” he ordered and Eva felt immense happiness.
“ Oh, Rafael… Thank you so much,” she chirped and Rafael just smiled.
—---
Rafael carried Eva in his arms in a bridal style and took her to their bedroom. She had fallen asleep during the ride home, her head resting softly against his chest. Carefully, he walked inside the room and gently placed her sleeping body on the bed.
Eva was still holding the flowers he had bought for her earlier when she shyly asked him to buy them. Her fingers were wrapped around the delicate stems as if she didn’t want to let them go.
Rafael looked at her for a moment. A small smile appeared on his face.
Slowly and carefully, he loosened her fingers and freed the flowers from her hand so he wouldn’t wake her up. He placed the flowers on the bedside table next to the bed. For a few seconds he simply stood there, watching her peaceful sleeping face.
“This night…” he whispered softly.
He knew he would remember this night for a very long time.
After turning off the light, Rafael got into the bed and covered both of them with the blanket. He gently pulled Eva closer into his arms. Her body felt warm and fragile against him. He lowered his face slightly and inhaled the soft scent of her hair.
“Good night,” he murmured quietly.
