Chapter 42 042

Chapter 42 042

Lucien's pov

I stood at the garden, staring blankly at nothing. Fifty years ago, I had given it my all and made sure that I got rid of every form of macphone in existence since it was the only thing capable of ending my life.

But it was back. If it had returned just a few months ago. I wouldn't have been bothered because I was at that point when I wanted my life to end.

But now that my life was starting to make some sort of meaning with Claire's presence, I knew it would be difficult for me to deal with that.

“Sire!” A voice interrupted my thoughts, even though I didn't turned around, i was certain that it was Austin standing behind me.

“What do you want?” I growled, still angry at the event that had offended earlier. He took a few steps closer to me but even while he did, his eyes was still lowered.

“I want to apologize again for what had happened….. I didn't know she meant that much to you”

On a normal day, that word would mean nothing, but somehow. It struck a nerve, forcing me to turn around and stare blankly at him.

“So because she doesn't mean anything to mean, once I am sick, your first instinct should be to lock her up?”

“No. This was a terrible mistake and would never happened, ever again.”

“Good! You can leave”

“Yes Sire” he muttered but remain silent and I knew he still had other things he wanted to say to me.

“It you have something to say, then just go ahead and say it!”

“She is human. And your humanity has been locked for a long time…..” he didn't complete the question. He didn't dare because I had been as confused as he was.

My humanity, my ability to feel pain or love had been locked up for a while now, yet Claire was able to sneak into my heart, making me feel things I can't explain.

Sometimes I feel it all because of the scent of her blood and sometimes, it becomes even more complicated for me to understand.

“It's her blood! It keeps calling out to me. There is something about her. It deep and I am yet to understand. She is like an onion shell, the more I peel, the more confused I become”

“What are you going to do about her brother. There are rules for human, they know the consequences or breaking it and yet he dare breaks it”

“Is there something that you are trying to insuanate here?”

“Exactly! I think that his appearance at the castle And the macphone poison, it's too much of a coincidence”

He was making a point here. I knew he might be right. The thought that Claire presence in my life might have all been a plot. A way to get at me and maybe, just maybe her innocent wasn't that innocent at all but no matter how hard I think if it, all the pieces doesn't add up.

“It can't be, I met Claire when I had no idea I was going to be at the auction, there was no way that anyone could have known about it”

“And the boy. He knows what happens when the first born daughter is sold off, yet he came here looking for her”

“Go straight to the point Austin. What are you implying?”

“I am saying there is a possibility he was sent here as a spy. First to be sure the macphone worked and if it didn't, to try another method”

“The macphone has always been the only method of killing me, whoever that was behind the attempt wouldn't bother to find out if it works, they know it would always work and right now I don't think the human body should be out major concern”

“Then what?” Austin asked with a perplexed expression on his face while I started walking slowly out of the garden.

“Our major concern should be finding out who was behind it. I would place my bet on my brother. It was such a perfect timing for him to arrive here and try to make claims on everything I have, don't you think?”

“Exactly sire” she shrugged, as if seeing the perfect picture in all of this. “And I think we should capture him”

“You want to capture the prince of hell?” I let out a subtle chuckle. “That would be a collsal waste of time. I know he is not the real man behind the entire plot. Someone is behind the curtain and they are using him”

I paused, my hands playing around my back as I walk with ease. “If we go directly at him, it would rattle the others, they would dare back and we will never get to find them. Right now the best thing to do is to remain silent and wait”

“What are we waiting for exactly?”

“I don't know yet. Everything would unfold but I know that we should be very careful, reshuffle the staffs and security at every point, leaving then at the same point for a long time gives them the opportunity to plot whatever they wish”

“Yes Sire”

“For now, stay away from Claire and no matter what you do, do not hurt her instead you are to protect her at all times”

There was a perplexed expression on his face. It was obvious that he had something to say, but he didn't dare say it.

Just when I let out a soft breath and was ready to go get some rest, Claire rushed over, her eyes was beaming with so much excitement, it was difficult for anyone to ignore her.

“I have been searching everywhere for you and today, I realized how big this castle is” she lowered her head, resting her hands on her lap to catch her breath while I remained calm watching her cuteness.

Even though I wanted to be angry at her, to be angry at the fact that she was a wall I couldn't get through.

Yet I felt the cuteness in everything she did, it was so hard not to like her.
