Chapter 30 030

Lucien's POV

The wolves did not wait, as soon as our car came to a halt

They came at us fast, snarling and snapping, their growls, their eyes blaring at us with so much rage. I barely had time to process it before Austin and Shark burst out of the car.

Their shirts tore apart as they shifted. The sound of bones breaking and reshaping filled the air, no doubt that it was violent and quick. Within seconds, two massive wolves stood where my men had been, and they did not hesitate. They launched themselves at the enemy, meeting them head-on with everything they had.

I sat there for a moment, watching Austin slam into one of the wolves with enough force to send them both tumbling across the road. Shark had another one pinned, his jaws working at its throat while it thrashed underneath him.

Their blood filled the ground. This was why most people never dared to attack my pack and not to mention the fact that Austin and Shark were my most ruthless wolves that would shred a person without blinking an eye..

Seeing that they were on the losing side, they pulled away from where they stood and started coming for me.

I got out of the car slowly with my eyes pinned at them and their courage. The wolves slowed down, circling me like they were trying to figure out their next move. Their eyes caught the light from the headlamps, glowing yellow and hungry. Saliva dripped from their bared teeth.

My eyes burned hot, and I felt them change. Red. Always red when the beast came out. My fangs pushed through my gums, sharp and ready. My claws extended from my fingertips, and I flexed my hands once.

I did not need to go full wolf for this. I never did and since I was an hybrid, I was atbso much advantage.

The first one came at me hard and fast.

I moved to the side and caught it by the scruff of its neck. My claws sank deep into fur and flesh, and I slammed it into the ground with everything I had. Something cracked on impact. The wolf let out a broken whine and went still.

The second one was sneakier. It went low, trying to take out my legs. I dropped down and drove my claws straight through the top of its skull. Blood sprayed hot across my hands and wrists. The wolf collapsed in a heap, and I pushed it away.

The third one stood there, watching me. It should have run. Should have turned around and disappeared into the trees while it still could.

But it did not.

It charged right at me with all it might.

I caught it by the jaw, my hand closing around bone and teeth. I twisted hard to the right, and its neck snapped clean. The sound echoed in my ears as I threw the body aside.

I stood there, breathing steady, blood dripping from my fingers. Around me, the fight was winding down. Austin had two wolves down and was circling a third. Shark was finishing off another one, his teeth locked around its throat until it stopped moving.

Most of the pack was dead or running. The smart ones had already disappeared into the trees.

It was over or so I thought until I noticed a figure from behind but before I could react, a string had been stung right into my vein.

I spun around, my hand flying up to the spot, and my fingers brushed against the object which was A syringe but as I pulled it out, it as already empty.

The wolf standing behind me was smaller than the others, faster too. It must have slipped around while I was dealing with the first three.

I grabbed it by the throat before it could back away. My claws tore through skin and muscle in one clean motion. Blood poured out, and the wolf dropped at my feet, choking and gurgling until it finally stopped.

But it was too late.

My vision swam. Just for a second, but it was enough to make my stomach drop. My legs felt like someone had tied weights to them. I took a step forward and nearly fell.

And even as my eyes were woozy, it was obvious to me that it was sedative.

I could hear Austin and Shark finishing up. The sounds of the fight faded, replaced by the crack of bones as they shifted back. Their breathing was heavy, ragged.

I tried to call out to them, but my throat would not work. It felt like something was closing around it from the inside. My chest was on fire, and every breath came harder than the last.

I went down on one knee, trying to connect to my wolf, but he was as weak as I was and whatever this was, it had more effects on my vampire side, it was a dark Vernon and I could already guess what kind it was.

The ground felt like it was moving under me, tilting sideways. I put my hand down to steady myself, my claws scraping against dirt and gravel. My strength was draining out of me like water through a sieve.

"Alpha!"

Austin's voice came through my ears, but it sounded far away. Muffled.

I tried to push myself back up, but my arms gave out. I hit the ground hard, Blood filled my mouth. I tried to swallow it down, but it just kept coming. I coughed, and more spilled out.

"Get the clothes!" Shark yelled out in panic, but I could hear the panic underneath it.

My heart was slowing down. I could feel it in my chest, each beat weaker than the one before. My lungs felt like it was about to be ripped off, full of something that should not be there. Breathing was a fight I was not sure I could win.

"Sire, stay with me." His voice was still in panic, but his hands were shaking.

I forced my mouth to move. It took everything I had left.

"Macphone."

It barely came out. Just a whisper But Shark heard it. His eyes went wide, and he nodded fast.

The last thing I felt was Shark's hands on my shoulders, shaking me, his voice breaking as he called my name over and over.

Then everything went black.
