Chapter 78
I have no idea how Sophia's situation was ultimately handled, but when I got back to the Lopez Manor, Robert seemed to be on the phone with someone, and I vaguely heard him mention her name.
Seeing me return, Robert smiled and waved me over, gesturing for me to sit down beside him. Oscar took my bag and set it aside, then asked with concern, "Why are you back so late today? I went to your office, and your assistant said you left early. I tried calling, but couldn't get through. Were you busy?"
I shook my head casually. "Not really busy, just had some small things to take care of."
"All done? Need any help?" It seemed like he always asked this.
My answer was the same as always. "No need, pretty much handled. What's wrong? Mr. Robert Lopez doesn't seem too happy." I lowered my voice to ask.
Before Oscar could answer, Robert had already hung up the phone, his brow furrowed tight, letting out a deep sigh. "That was Gregory calling, saying he's going to the hospital to pick up Sophia."
She was only hospitalized for one day - it seems her health isn't that fragile after all.
Neither of us asked further, but Robert couldn't help sighing again. "Gregory is really going to drive me crazy. Now Sophia's pregnant - how can the timing be this perfect?"
I asked curiously, "Is it just about the pregnancy?"
Robert nodded. "Isn't pregnancy a big deal? This whole thing might have had a chance to turn around, but now that she's pregnant, we're in a tough spot."
Oscar's smile deepened, teasing, "Well, isn't this perfect timing? Two pieces of good news at once! Now that she's pregnant, shouldn't you two be planning the wedding?"
Robert looked at Oscar with confusion. I could tell he was holding back, not wanting to say anything harsh, only managing to scold Gregory helplessly. "If he were marrying Emma, that would indeed be good news. Gregory's a smart guy - how could he do something so stupid? Is he that clueless?"
Oscar's smile grew even brighter. "Don't say that. Maybe they're just meant to be together, right, Emily?"
The conversation suddenly turned to me. How was I supposed to answer that?
"Since she's already pregnant, it must be fate. Mr. Robert Lopez, it's their own business. Outsiders shouldn't really say much - just let him decide what he wants to do." I pretended to comfort him.
Sophia's pregnancy really came at the perfect time. I was curious too - now that the truth is right in front of him, and she's pregnant, what will Gregory choose?
On the phone, he didn't seem to mention anything about Emma being sold off by Sophia. Perhaps his choice is already obvious.
Robert's gaze sharpened. "I called them. Tomorrow morning, I want them all to come over. You two should make some time too - let's all sit down together and figure out what to do next."
Oscar put on a surprised look. "Wouldn't it be inappropriate for us to get involved? You can just discuss it with his parents. I have things to do tomorrow anyway."
I quietly tugged at the corner of his shirt from behind, smiling as I said, "What could be more important than family matters? Just push tomorrow's stuff back."
I loved this kind of drama. Gregory wanted to hide Sophia's situation, but I wouldn't let him. I wanted to see with my own eyes what kind of reaction they'd have when faced with the truth.
Oscar pulled me upstairs, his tone excited. "Looks like the Lopez family has good news coming."
I raised an eyebrow with a smile. "Not necessarily."
Oscar was puzzled. "What do you mean, not necessarily?"
I smiled mysteriously. "Just keep watching. Things might get even more interesting."
"What else is going to happen? Don't tell me you still have feelings for Gregory and want to sabotage things?" Oscar looked at me in disbelief.
"Just watch. Don't ask what else - otherwise there's no suspense." I winked at him playfully, grabbed my pajamas, and went into the bathroom to shower. I needed a good night's sleep to have the energy to watch their show tomorrow.
When I went downstairs early the next morning, I not only saw William's family, but also members of the Brown Family gathered together.
Were they preparing to put on a big show?
But the atmosphere seemed off. Gregory sat to one side with his head down, not saying a word. Sophia sat across from him, crying, biting her lip, and silent.
Seeing us come down, they only looked up briefly, not even in the mood to greet us.
Only Robert waved us over. "Come sit down first. We'll eat breakfast later."
I found it amusing - I was afraid they wouldn't be able to eat later.
Oscar still seemed to be in good spirits. "What's going on? Why is the atmosphere so gloomy so early in the morning? Didn't you say there was good news? Everyone should be happy."
Gregory looked up at Oscar, then glanced at me from the corner of his eye, his face showing hesitation.
Charles couldn't hold it in anymore. "Gregory, can you be responsible? Sophia's pregnant now - what do you mean you can't marry her?"
Sophia pitifully tugged at Charles's sleeve, shaking her head through tears. "Dad, stop talking. Whatever he says goes."
Charles snorted coldly. "Why should it? He should take responsibility for you."
I pulled Oscar to sit on the sofa nearby and poured myself a cup of coffee.
Oscar piled on. "Come on, Gregory, you're totally out of line here. She's pregnant now - if you're any kind of man, you need to step up and do the right thing."
Gregory still kept his head down, staying silent.
Isabella's face showed anger as she looked at Grace beside her. "Do you think the Brown Family is easy to bully? How Sophia has treated Gregory and all of you over the years - you should know very well. Now you're just picking on her? If you don't give us an explanation, fine - we'll report this as rape right now. The baby in her belly is the best evidence."
William quickly put on a placating smile. "It's not that serious. Didn't we call you over to discuss this together? Gregory has too many concerns. After all, his marriage to Emma is still valid, and now he's supposed to marry Sophia..."
Sophia continued crying with her head down. Seeing her like this, Charles couldn't save face. "Nobody forced him to marry her. If he wasn't going to marry her, he shouldn't have slept with her. Now there's a baby, and he's still wavering. Fine, if there's no sincerity, why did you even call us here? Let's go, we're leaving."
I spoke up as if I knew nothing. "But Paul said Sophia got someone to kidnap Emma and sell her to Solstice. Aren't you going to look for her? Are you sure you want to discuss wedding plans here?"
The moment I finished speaking, the room fell silent. Every eye swung to Sophia, and in that instant, the color drained from her face.
